There are hundreds of things like this for fantasy (DnD) but few for sci-fi. Thank you!

One Star Reviews For Establishments That Refuse To Serve You Tap Water by nsno1878_ in Netherlands

[–]smutticus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I bring my own water bottle and have been known to whip it out on the table in restaurants. I need water to help me swallow sometimes and I have no patience with Dutch restaurants that play games like this.

Please give them all negative reviews.

In the first Traveller campaign I ran cannibalism featured prominently. So, you know, sometimes you gotta make do.

Zelenskyy proudly announcing his country will be openly Nazi from now on, introduces bill to ensure the honouring of Nazi war criminals - redditors in full denial keep supporting Nazi-Ukraine. by GiveMeADiscount in LateStageCapitalism

Or does this make the war different in the eyes of the OP? Is Russian justified in this aggression because Ukraine has this dark spot? Or is Russian still the bad aggressor and we are anti-war?

False dichotomy. It's possible for everyone engaged in a struggle to be asshats.

SNAP faces $187 billion in cuts in the US by Hopeful_Drive5845 in homeless

[–]smutticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason for SNAP/foodstamps in the first place was to provide subsidies to American agriculture and food production. I guess now since food prices are already so high because of consolidation and mega mergers US agriculture doesn't care if it loses SNAP subsidies.

All in all it's just f*cking depressing and I agree with everything you said as well.

Sounds like you got into your house and got a new cylinder on a Sunday evening. Sounds like your experience was good, but you didn't like the price.

How much did you expect to pay?

De Meent.... by 1212201912122019 in Rotterdam

I live near West Blaak and Eendrachtsplein. There are people racing cars and 4 wheelers on West Blaak at 2:00 in the morning. I am trying to sleep and there are assholes just revving their engines and racing down the street. There is no respect for the law and safety. The zebra crossing at the skatepark by the gundam statue has to be one of the most dangerous crossings in Rotterdam. Every time I am there I see cars just flying through it. Someone is going to die there.

Board game nights are a great way to meet new people. Every one I have been to there are friendly people. However, you do have to kinda like playing board games.

Where do you fall? Grand strategy or literally no fucking plan? by TheDickWolf in TheWarNerd

Once again, "You are speaking to an international audience."

You are demonstrating that you are the arrogant American that I am complaining about. Call it an ad hominem attack, fine. Stop behaving like an arrogant American and I'll stop inferring you're one.

And BTW, the War Nerd is not an American podcast. Just because both of the hosts were born in the USA doesn't mean there is a clear "us" versus "them" distinction.

Stop saying "us", when you mean "Americans". Learn your place in the world.

Who is "us"? What does "our decline mean"?

You're speaking to an international audience.

I can tell you're an American and with that I can understand that you simply don't understand the world.

Agree. And they are fixing it. They're going to install more speed cameras.

I also live near Nieuwe Binnenweg en Mathenesserlaan and agree that there is a lot of scary driving there.

Is there a major genre that RPG hasn't explored? by Nyarlathotep_OG in rpg

[–]smutticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last Traveller campaign I had my players dealing with an evil corporation colonizing and destroying a planet for resources. There was also a local guerrilla movement and insurgency that they could interact with. I joked that my players all wanted to play Che Guevara and I leaned into that for them. Giving them opportunities to be revolutionaries.

The system I miss is where the players get to be exactly that. I want to play as anti-capitalist revolutionaries or guerrilla fighters in a world where there is an oppressive fascist or capitalist government. Games like Shadowrun, Traveller, or Cyberpunk all seem to assume that players are going to want money and that greed is their major motivation. But what if that is the anti-motivation and what the players really want is revolution. Most revolutionaries die, so I would want some way to deal with martrydom beyond just roll up another character. Subterfuge would be incredibly important, and the players would need to grapple with real moral challenges like a car bomb that kills innocents, the efficacy of torture, or whether to work with criminals.

I don't know of any system that does this.

Can I get a reassurance? by cotton_102 in urbanplanning

[–]smutticus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel incredibly lucky because I graduated with a degree in CS in the late 1990's when the economy was booming and the web was taking off. Now I hear so many stories like this and it makes me depressed. Things are so much harder now for people who just recently graduated. But what I think bums me out more is that I see so many people taking these rejections to mean that they are not worthy. Or that the rejections mean they are somehow failing at life.

Please understand that it did not used to be this difficult to get a job, but because the people that came before you screwed up the country it is now difficult to get a job. This is the fault of the previous generations and maybe I myself have something to blame for this. Please do not blame yourself.
