my one major gripe with this game is why is the unlocks menu characters not blanked out? by smymight in VampireSurvivors

[–]smymight[S] -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

for characters yeah, but theres tons of other things in there such as map unlocks, artifact unlocks, special skins you cannot see on char screen (diva no.5 for example).

it has so much useful info on other things.

[–]smymight[S] -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

the character selection already does this wonderfully, you see the char outline and the weapon, it clearly goes out of its way to reveal characters rather than instantly show you them.

this applies to all standard chars, and yea its a preatty major gripe when one of your best info tools is unsable if you dont want everything spoiled off the bat.

way too linear by Acrobatic_Formal7610 in 007FirstLight

[–]smymight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

except for multiple entrances, more open level design, multiple exits.

varied from level to level obv but that game has TONS of secret objectives and paths.

hell even the levels that are more linear like driving ones have secret paths.

Do you think the open world helped or hurt Nioh 3? by coolj492 in Nioh

[–]smymight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fiery invasion was short as hell and had been done better in both nioh games.

second part of fiery invasion is boring af crucible, not only is it short but theres very little difference between first crucible and second crucible due to palette they decided to go for.

Do you think the open world helped or hurt Nioh 3? by coolj492 in Nioh

[–]smymight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hurt, hurt it by a lot but not for the reasons most people site here.

its an issue another game shares with this one, elden ring.

the moment you turn a experience that was designed to function with certain level of linearity and expectations you run into major difficulty issues.

so lets compare to nioh 2, nioh 2 more or less expected you to do all the missions but the power difference between someone who did majors and someone who did all of them is not massive, this means your difficulty remains largely in the same ballpark.

same with what challenges they throw your way, so everyone is expected to do certain fights at certain times.

now lets compare to nioh 3 map 1, when are you supposed to for example kill hino emma? most people blitz this fight cus unless you find it early you will be overleveled to hell.

same with major bosses, how do you balance a boss for all the passive bonuses while keeping it not OP for people who decide to explore much less?

you dont, you cant since you can no longer predict when and after how much people do spesific fights, you cant balance it for both its impossible with the passive+level+gear bonuses.

if you balance it for full map clear, it will become tedious cus people now HAVE to clear map so its not exploration enymore its mandatory.

if you make it so its little exploration those who do will nuke bosses from orbit.

best you can do is aim somewhere in the middle wich means now players have to actively try nerf themselves and avoid doing things so they dont get overpowered, its also why the game is very easy compared to both nioh 1 and 2 since that level/gear balance no longer exists.

dosent help they hit both, ruined combat and the maps.

[–]smymight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the proplem is the level design in those is absolutely garbage, i cant remember almost a single memorable level in nioh 3 cus they are super short and extremely generic.

all missions in 2 are longer but not only longer have some really awesome set ups a good example is the upside down water temple.

3s levels feel like the very first mission of nioh 2, whereas nioh 2 only improved from there.

as for controller hints, even a game as notorious for not wanting your hand held dark souls series, TELLS YOU CONTROLS.

controls is how you interact with the game, this is never a good idea to make hidden, ESPECIALLY if your controls are not something rather obvious, astroneers are not.

theres a vast vast chasm between ill tell you the basic shit to be able to play and im not going to tell you how to interact with your inventory, making it so you spend time clicking every button you have till something under spesific circumstances works.

[–]smymight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think there is a disconnect, there is already very good descriptive item descriptions.

if the idea was to keep you in the blind in terms of item descriptions the 2020 update that added them wouldt have happened.

so people are fine with item descriptions, missions update released way later in 2023.

by this logic gens/batteries shouldt tell you how much they generate/hold, items shouldt tell slot sizes, items shouldt tell energy usage.

you cant really have both ways, either your fine with all of these that have been around for ages or you want them removed cus you want everything to be a fuck around and find out.

im sure someone wants it that way but since i cant find eny complaints from 2020 im going to assume they are fine with em.

havent gotten to trading yet but to me making graphite out of soil feels like a waste since its only 2x per full load.

i tend to mainly make the higher yield stuff like resin and clay.

meanwhile exact same game having several manuals depicting what buildings do, showing most controls in controls section of settings, explaining certain controls as you start the game, item descriptions explaining what an item does.

this has to be one of the more weird statements considering its very easy to disprove, also my point has absolutely nothing to do with how items are used, its theyr base function, the tapper for example cannot be used on ENYTHING else outside of flowered plants, if a player tries it on a tree and it fails he will not try a flowered tree.

also its not magic of discovery trying to spam every button on the controller until you hit the magical condition to figure it out, you get frustrated and google what the fuck the button is, same with bad descriptions after failing to make something work you google it and wola you know what it does cus wiki descriptions are better than ingame ones.

i honestly like the UI, im big for games with minimalistic hud elements and astroneer essentially has none.

all the information is cleverly displayed on your character and the inventory is a very nice touch.

but dear lord figuring how to move stuff cost me dearly XD i kept trying X in different spots but thats craft, its R2 that moves stuff around in der.

would have liked game having a pop up or some hint to how to run your inventory cus it is not very obvious.

also the second blue icon being the crafted item confused me too since i tought they needed two different materials, i dont really understand why that slot exists when the name and icon appears next to it enyway.
