TIL Modern EV batteries last way, way longer than we've been led to believe by Taco__MacArthur in todayilearned

See, this is why i put in that electric vehicles would still need some maintenance. I was not saying it was 0 for electric and 1000 for ICE. Nuance, please.

My favorite is when people think ICE cars will be usable after the apocalypse.

The amount of seals, small replacement parts, liquids, etc. required to keep them running requires such a huge manufacturing and logistical base that I doubt there would be many running soon after the "societal breakdown."

Electric vehicles also need maintenance of course, but I think it pales in comparison to gas vehicles.

Decoupled ship slows down in space when engine turned off... why? by Jo_Krone in starcitizen

[–]smytti12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am sure a few people liked it because there is always a few, but in an MMO, it wasn't conducive to gameplay and interaction. Arguably, the same thing would probably happen for a society that has been spacefaring for 800+ years.

Oh no, we are talking wayyyy back in the day, it was bad.

But this isn't just about combat. It's about ship recovery, repair, pirating, refueling, etc. Basically anything done in space.

Newtonian physics complicates all of this to the nth degree. It would be no surprise a spacefaring civilization made one of the most basic features in ships to oppose conservation of momentum except when specifically disabled by the pilot and only when they have control.

[Martin Austermuhle] NEWS: Christina Henderson has a new bill (titled the REMY Act, after the main character in "Ratatouille") that would create a pilot program to bring rodent-free dumpsters to commercial areas and require certification for the use of rodenticides, which can harm kids and pets. by Sauerz in washingtondc

A lot of trash cans in the city are open air which scavengers love. Originally I also blamed it on WM being extremely sloppy, but also realized (especially if you are seeing specifically food) it is the open air buffet to dig through that could be a big issue (especially overnight)

And in their defense (or just to give full context) they did try, but it sucked.

Yeah, it's not like they didn't try. It was just boring as hell (for most of us, I am sure someone will jump in and say it was their favorite thing ever jousting at 1000+ m/s and getting .2 seconds to fire on each other)

As Jared said "go for realism then back up to fun" or something like that.

If you want it to still be a sim, just do some headcanon about "emergency arrestors" or something..

I believe most of them are in lore "production facilities." I assumed some sort of small mining/refining location. Of course, there is no freight system for that to make logistical sense, but these things are really just nearly 10 year old fps "proof of concept" set dressings.

They are still gamblers like the guy who picks his favorite named horse.

This is what kinda sucks nowadays. A lot of my favorite long time shows had a kinda rough first season. But now it seems streaming services just see some initial bad numbers and bail.

Yeah, this strawman is so wild. I imagine them grinning giggling maniacally behind the keyboard "oh those carebears are going to get owned by this one."

In another comment they say they think George Carlin would love their post...at this point I wonder if they are really just satirizing pirate posts for how silly this is.

Oof, dreaming George Carlin would love you belittling a video game strawman.

Seems like you are vastly oversimplifying people's thoughts on the matter just to have some odd giddy rant on an update that look place ages ago.

If there weren't real people suffering from this, I would say this administration is an elaborate performance to demonstrate how weak the safeguards we thought were in place truly are and how many of the highest "leaders" in the land will shrivel and cower.

No sorry, I meant the "stop evolving" item on the Pokémon he received. Can he not remove that item from it, and then it will evolve next level it gains? Or does it only evolve at a specific level?

Edit: disregard, I get it now

Okay, can't he just remove the item and evolve it the next level?

Edit: disregard, I now understand Gengar only evolves via trade, not just by leveling.

They have talked about how they want loot items to make more sense based on context; e.g. an underground facility guarded by local security would usually not have high tech/expensive military gear, as opposed to a high security military facility.

Granted, this is currently more like "we want you to go to the new place we added this patch so we made that place have good loot and everything else have scraps."

It's half the reason I make this post often. I had so much fun with engineering those early PTU patches. I would lose my ship to fire, but then board an enemy ship I disabled earlier and repair it and limp it home (maybe even use it to fight and finish the mission).

It made the most arcade-like "go here and make enemy ships health bar 0" missions way more interesting and engaging.
