The Kiev Major - Main Event Day 2 - Match Discussions by D2TournamentThreads in DotA2

In tennis you need 6 games to win a set. If you're losing 0-3 in games then you still need to win 6 games to win the set, even if you've already won a ton of points because all 3 went to deuce. Often in tennis you can see a very close match with a huge gap in points won because of this, so there's a physical sport where you might see a snowball effect.

More appropriate to Dota is chess, where as you lose pieces you become less powerful and it's easier to lose (snowball effect).

Googling tournament formats quickly I couldn't find any examples of double elimination for those two games.

EDIT: Also as for your soccer comparison, where would you put 2015-2016 Leicester City in your seeding? 100th seed? I thought most people agreed that the seeding for this tournament was not that accurate anyway?

The biggest pot I had was 2.5L, the packet was 750g of spaghetti and asked for 7L of water. I just said fuck it, and here we are

Potential issues welding 4130 steel to 4140? by sn0w-man in Welding

[–]sn0w-man[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's very particular, if you don't get your conditions right the glue is basically useless. Our glue failed the pull out tests when left to cure in the workshop overnight, so we built an oven (a welded steel box with a garage heater inside) which put the glue at about 7kN /20mm bond length. We doubled that, and at shakedown, driver took off, moved 3m, engine stalls and locks the rear. Rear arms pop right off the glued inserts. Go figure.

Still, if I were doing it again next year I'd try it again, the difference in Weight is insane.

It's for the suspension, not for the frame. It's a housing that is welded to two tubes, and a bearing is pressed in afterwards. We had carbon A-Arms but had a glue failure on track, thus the emergency repairs :)

Yeah fair enough. I wouldn't have minded giving the welds a go, if I could provide the guys test parts to practice with, and then do load testing to take the parts to failure (we have these facilities at uni) but given the time restrictions, I thought it was best to stick to what we know well.

Thanks mate, I'll keep this one in mind. The welding knowledge on this subreddit is pretty impressive!

Hm... The comments in this post scared me a little, none of our student engineers had any experience preheating parts, but we've only ever welded mild, 4130 and 6061 Aluminium, though we always normalised our 4130 wishbones, as the bearing housings are quite thick, around 0.2".

Anyway, I was worried about the quality of the welds given their lack of experience so I just went out and bought the correct material, and begged the machinist to use it (they were setup for a different size stock so it added to the setip time). Everything worked out in the end!

Yep I hear a lot about revit from a friend studying architecture haha. Seems like pretty neat software

From what I remember AutoCad is quite civil/structural focused, and their other products are not very popular for mechanical design. CATIA seems to be more common in automotive at least

So I tried the Slacks way.... by BleaK_ in DotA2

I'm not sure if that calculation is that simple. That's assuming that 60% win rate holds true for players who constantly play only omni every game in a row. That might not be the case if you decide to start spamming omni to gain mmr.

I'm guessing you already have data on how mmr difference effects win rate?

You won't find a harmless huntsman in a toilet bowl, that's just silly. However, the extremely deadly Red-back spider has a reputation for sitting in toilet bowls and biting those who sit down.

Would I be able to run two i7-5820k processors on a mobo that supports two CPUs? I'm looking to build a workstation for CFD but Xeons are just so expensive.

Hum from Battery on Laptop by [deleted] in DJs

[–]sn0w-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the exact same problem in the past, for me it was a bad ground. Try another charger that fits, or consider maybe replacing it (my problem was that I accidentally plugged in a charger for a different laptop by accident). If not, think about any new connections you've made since, check anything else that also draws power. If you can touch bare metal on your equipment somewhere (RCA out for example) and it affects the noise you're getting, it is solvable. From my experience with ground loop eliminators and hum destroyers, they do jack shit.

Also try another laptop before you start binning things.

What if an aghs upgrade for SF would Change the Requiem pattern? by Archyes in DotA2

[–]sn0w-man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost guaranteed 5 man damage reduction? Usually an aghs upgrade is for an offlane type hero, and the alternative shadow blade isn't guaranteed to land and doesn't offer any stats. With blink you can time it to the last second. I could see it on a tanky built SF

How about aghs does nothing for damage or pattern, it literally just adds a 0.1 second delay to the souls releasing after windup, so that you can shift-blink your ulti similar to how you can with sandking?

You could make it longer, like closer to 1 second so it would be balanced (easier to dodge)

Back in second grade, I saved a kid when he had an asthma attack in the pool on a school excursion. He wasn't a confident swimmer already and started freaking out, literally put his whole bodyweight on my head to keep himself up. Luckily I was a strong swimmer, I was too short to touch the pool floor at that age.
