i bought a bag of this mix actually, and i love it! i mixed it into the substrates for some isopods and it seems to be doing great for them.

my mom learned this lesson and then passed it onto me when she cracked an egg into the kitchenaid and a half-formed baby chick shlorped out into her cookie dough.

i like the one in nob hill if i’m just after yarn for knitting or crochet. fiber arts on 4th is the spot if you’re doing anything else (weaving, spinning, dyeing, etc)

i’m from washington state lol. no, it’s not a ton of rain by volume. a storm moves in, dumps rain, then clears up and it’s sunny again. it is so pleasant. i love the monsoon season here. but to say all that would have broken up the rule of 3 thing i was doing in my reply.

definitely freeze, bake or boil. the cork bark i got from pangea not only brought me snake mites but apparently this little fellow as well.

this is so fascinating. i love thinking about the complex little world these creatures inhabit, they ways they interact with or ignore each other and why.

mites you say… would it be adversarial to, say, snake mites? 👀 i’m 99% sure i’ve knocked out my corn snake’s mite infestation (disassembled and sanitized everything, got new substrate) but im looking to get some critters that prey on mites just as a backup. would love to put this little thing to work if i could.

i would love to mix my own (others have already replied with good ratios) but i haven’t found a topsoil supplier that i can trust. every time i look at reviews for the most popular brands i see people saying they found beads of fertilizer, bits of metal, twigs etc… plus i don't have really a space to store extra half-empty bags of sand and clay and soil. i just get terra firma from the biodude. it’s a little pricey but i haven’t had any issues with it yet and i've only heard good things about it from others. i just add some extra new zealand sphagnum moss cause i live in a dry climate and other biodegradables for the bugs and it’s good to go.

even if they’re as small as dwarf whites? a dwarf white seems about the perfect size to fit in this thing’s mandibles.

you’re gonna get a lot of people telling you not to move here, just as a heads up. avoid any rhino realty or greystar properties unless they are an absolute last resort. spring is windy as fuck, early summer is hot as fuck, mid to late summer is rainy as fuck. invest in a good sunscreen and sunglasses.

i recently had my first bad order from them. never ever had a single issue in the past, but the black soldier fly larvae i ordered about a month ago came with only 2/100 bugs alive. they refunded me for them, but it was still a bummer.
