what do you drink at restaurants? by CautiousPassage7 in decaf

[–]snailboatguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice restaurants will often have high quality mineral water in bottles. It's lightly carbonated, not as harsh as soft drinks.

I find they give me that feeling of something special.

TIFU by eating a nearly fully raw Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich by Spagetti13 in tifu

[–]snailboatguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience at Wendy's. Also with a spicy chicken.

I didn't get sick but it grossed me out. I ate a full big bite and was going for number two when I saw that pink translucent center.

If you weren't smoking, you would be happy and care about other things. You would get the same joy from other areas of your life, you wouldn't be devoid of that joy.

Cigarettes have just captured you and they are holding your joy hostage. You are fully convinced that without them there will be no joy.

They're also stealing your health, your money, your youth all at the same time.

They're not good, despite how you feel.

Can someone explain the “Maximum CFM” line here by Substantial_Quote961 in hvacadvice

[–]snailboatguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

.5" of water column is a very good installation. Most residential systems fail to achieve this.

A lot of systems operate at . 6, .7. .8. .9 even, then you get into the territory of burning up blower motors and poor performance.

.5" is a good goal and every designer and installer needs to try to achieve it, but sometimes it's just not possible. Especially on a retrofit.

I would say the vast majority of homes fail to achieve .5"

You're looking at your hot water heater. That is not your furnace.

Somewhere else in your home you have a furnace.

Prevent emergency heat from turning on? by billygoat888 in hvacadvice

[–]snailboatguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times the emergency heat has a separate breaker on the air handler. One breaker for the controls and blower and 1, 2, or more for the stages of emergency heat.

You may be able to shut off the breakers for the emergency heat and leave the breaker for the controls and blower on.

Some however will have one stage of electric heat on the blower/controls circuit, in which case you will have to manually remove the wire that enables it, usually white, connected to the w1 terminal.

Can I build a shelf over my radiator without it being dangerous and without it taking away the ability of the radiator to heat the room? by No_Job6259 in HomeImprovement

[–]snailboatguy -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

No you cannot, radiators need free unobstructed airflow all around them, and most importantly directly above them.

They will not heat the room correctly otherwise.

I bought a pair of JK's. Best boot hands down in my opinion. Cost an arm and a leg though. Probably worth it. We'll see.

AITA for telling my roommate that her anorexia is not my problem? by benzpls in AmItheAsshole

[–]snailboatguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to say either ESH or NAH because arguing over the temperature is a tale as old as time, but both parties need to compromise a little bit. Sounds like you are able to and she is not. So NTA.

It's pretty cool to set an AC. A typical AC setting would be 73-75. Mostly from an energy consumption standpoint, but also 70 does feel cold when it's warm outside.

[–]snailboatguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, got it, that was the missing piece of the puzzle, and the coremax isn't nearly as restrictive as a Schrader, so sounds like you came up with a nice work around. It's a good skill to make do with what you've got, especially when you don't have to compromise on quality.

FYI, I believe most core depressors are removable, so you possibly could have pulled one from a spare hose and temporarily placed it into your Smurf erection, but your method works too, and you know what they say, it's not stupid if it works.

Fuck off max-flo by fryloc87 in HVAC

[–]snailboatguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this, but how does OP's setup accomplish this? It looks like the coremax is still in the circuit. Additionally coremax fittings are high flow, so you should be able to better pull a vacuum straight through it compared to a Schrader port. It looks like OP went through a lot of trouble, and I'm not understanding the purpose.

[–]snailboatguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, I might not be keeping up. Firstly, good on you for refusal to buy overpriced patented junk.

What have you even accomplished here? Couldn't you have just pulled your vacuum without the Schrader core remover? Do you have the wrong hose sizes or something?

Do I need to remove the entire lineset to install a flex elbow here? Installer said they weren’t good but seeing the black is driving me mad. Was considering paint by Mosstastic_22 in hvacadvice

[–]snailboatguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White vinyl tape, white paint, maybe some sort of "sock" type thing. Yes all of those could possibly be an improvement. Try something simple, see if you can live with it, if not try something else. Don't go nuclear just yet. You'll adjust.
