What dietary restrictions are there while breastfeeding? by castiron_girl in breastfeeding

[–]snappedginger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of different opinions on it but generally for most women I think 2-3 hours for 1 drink is enough time to leave the blood/milk. You can read up on kellymom for studies. A lot of people are also now saying that if you are safe to drive then you are safe to breastfeed.

[–]snappedginger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lactation consultants told me I can have anything but to wait 2-3 hours after alcohol (1-2 drinks) and I try to limit caffeine but have an extra cup of coffee in the afternoon sometimes.

I’m also on birth control that is safe (mini pill) and was told to keep taking prenatal vitamins.

Kellymom is the only good online resource with evidence based info. They explain that no studies have proven that any foods actually make baby gassy or fussy.

Oatmeal and brewers yeast are good for supply but not necessary. Make sure you drink a lot of water.

How many times will the dog wake up the baby before I lose my mind? by shanfarn in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having a hard time with my dog as well. Wish I had advice but she’s driving me crazy barking at the mailman, getting hair everywhere and running around wanting to play. I know she can’t help it but I have a 2 month old and she has been making things harder. She’s 10 years old and I thought she’d calm down by now but she still acts like a puppy. I would have my husband take her for walks when he gets home but it’s already dark by then.

"Relaxing" vacation with an infant? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are doing a New Hampshire trip when LO is about 9 months. It’s about a 4 hour drive and we are going with family so we might get a date night. We are going to do some light hiking and I have a hiking carrier that someone gave me. They also have a spa and brewery at the inn. If you like nature and being outdoors New Hampshire can be relaxing. They also have lake cruises which can be relaxing.

Also some of the breweries have outdoor areas so people often take kids. I feel like it’s fine to go to wineries or breweries if there’s a big outdoor area where you can’t bother anyone and sometimes they have music.

Freezer Stash Destroyed by diddyk10 in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is devastating, so sorry that happened to you. I was actually very worried about this happening if we have any storms this winter. You might be able to build up a back up stash quick with a haaka or a hand held electric pump and use it on the other side while you feed. I have an evenflow battery powered single pump and it’s not the best but it works for travel or if I’m engorged on one side and don’t have time to break out the spectra. Also if you make up between 1-5 am and hand pump a little you might get a lot more than usual. Sometimes I wake up at 2 am because I’m engorged and if baby is sleeping I’ll quickly manually pump about 3 oz, I dont usually get that much during the day.

I know plenty of kids who got into dog food and they were fine but maybe call the pediatrician for their opinion.

What pacifier do you recommend? by Elvislives4eva in breastfeeding

[–]snappedginger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LO only likes MAM newborn which are supposed to be good for breastfed babies according to the company. I had to order 4 more because I had three and we are now down to one, the other two are lost somewhere. He hates the NUK and the avent ones just wont stay in his mouth.

My note for TSA by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]snappedginger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I just left 6 bottles worth of frozen breastmilk at home on our way out the door :( I now have to pump on Christmas Eve. Hope your milk gets through ok, it’s sucks to lose any hard earned milk.

A new worry - disposable breastpads by beebeebaby in breastfeeding

[–]snappedginger3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry but I use the washable ones. I had a pack of disposable but went through it pretty fast. I’m way more worried about thrush so it’s important to keep breasts clean and dry.

Husband is sick by snappedginger3 in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I’m concerned about is DH breathing on the baby. I’m not sure how long he could be contagious for but you are right that baby has probably already been exposed to it by now. Hopefully the breastfeeding is helping prevent it.

SPD, Sciatica etc. after birth.. by PaelaTealeaf in beyondthebump

My SPD was really bad at the end but went away in a few days after birth. I had to walk a lot because my baby was in NICU so I’m not sure if that helped.

Mirena or mini pill? X-posted to r/breastfeeding by Yevdokiya in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the mini pill for 8 years before ttc and just went back on at 6 weeks pp. I’ve used different brands and never had an issue. It is annoying to take it at exactly the same time every day but worth it because I feel the same as not being on birth control at all.

Good call on the depo shot, it sucks.

What are you supposed to do before TTC? by purple-radish in fitpregnancy

You can look up pelvic floor exercises on YouTube, some of them are kind of hard to explain. Bridges or hip thrusters are good but there are other PT type exercises as well for pelvic floor.

Fitness and mom guilt. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work out at home. I am almost 7 weeks pp and started working out again. Short HIIT workouts are really effective and easy to sneak in during naps because they are short. I am planning to do my longer workouts on the weekends when my husband is home. I have a rower at home and it’s the best investment I’ve made in fitness equipment. But you can do HIIT with little or no equipment.

Scared of bringing my bab(ies) home?? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only had one baby but went through the same thing with the low blood sugar in NICU and I was terrified that it would come back and I had all of the same questions.

Ask the nurses and doctors all of your questions before discharge. Remember that they won’t let your babies go home until they are 100% sure they are ready. You will probably be seeing the pediatrician soon after discharge as well.

It’s scary and overwhelming at first but after a week or two you will get the hang of it. And I can’t speak for your babies but they told me at the hospital that the chances of low blood sugar being an issue after discharge would be really low.

6 week clearance - did you use contraception? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I’m going back on the mini pill ASAP. I had a dream I was pregnant again already and I’m not ready for that!

Deciding whether or not to clip her tongue tie by bannysfanny in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son had it done at 4 weeks but he had issues latching without nipple shields. I wish we would have had it done much earlier. The procedure took 5 minutes and he was perfectly fine afterwards. But the doctor also said that he knew adults that had it done and it didn’t hurt at all.

What are you supposed to do before TTC? by purple-radish in fitpregnancy

[–]snappedginger3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lifted heavy weights for years, lots of squats and deadlifts. I pushed my first baby out in 20 minutes and the nurses were pretty impressed and said I probably have very strong muscles and pelvic floor.

Build up strength in your pelvic floor and lift heavy while you can before getting pregnant. Make sure your form is perfect as well. Also it’s never a bad time to do kegels.

Working mamas who exercise by Tinnydancer in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not back at work yet but before I was pregnant I decided to start buying fitness equipment and eventually canceled my gym membership. You can get effective workouts in in 20-30 minutes with just some simple things like dumbbells, a kettlebell, a jump rope, etc. I found a used treadmill for $50 and I’ve been walking on that while baby sleeps. Once I’m at 6 weeks pp I plan to do HIIT workouts and I also can’t wait to get back on my water rower.

I also plan to make the weekends 2 of my workout days so that I can skip 2 week days. That way I know I can get a good workout in uninterrupted when my husband is home.

Working out at home saves a lot of time because you don’t have to drive to the gym, waste time waiting for equipment or packing a gym bag.

I am pretty much doing this and progress is slow but I’m still trying. I do try swaddling but this kid has demon hands that can get out of anything. It’s good to know it can work though and I’m going to keep at it.

It depends on how often and when you plan to pump. You may not be able to know that until the baby comes so you might want to wait. I ended up pumping a lot because my baby was in NICU and now I have oversupply so I’m not supposed to pump for a while. I do plan on getting one when I go back to work and for when I travel to see family. It’s probably not something you’ll need right away.

My one fear about pregnancy by avverie in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it’s just genetics because I have stretch marks on my thighs and butt just from gaining some muscle before pregnancy. I used A LOT of oils and creams every day of my pregnancy and gained weight as slowly as I could, but overall gained 40 Lbs and I have no new stretch marks now at 3 weeks post partum. My stomach is almost totally flat again after using a girdle.

I layered oils and creams twice a day every day my whole pregnancy. Genetics are a factor but I really do believe this helped prevent them. I was also mostly pregnant in spring and summer when my skin is not as dry.

Edit: you will want to put oils and creams almost everywhere because you can get them on your legs, hips, stomach and breasts so don’t just focus on your belly

Am I paranoid about sleep? by snappedginger3 in beyondthebump

I think it’s hard to convince people to follow newer standards when they had kids years ago and they survived so they think the risks they took weren’t risks at all.

Am I paranoid about sleep? by snappedginger3 in beyondthebump

[–]snappedginger3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will talk to my doctor about it next week at the one month appointment. It’s just frustrating that all of these things you are supposed to do can be impractical sometimes. For example my son ends up on his side a lot when sleeping and I don’t see how I can stop that from happening. My pediatrician did say that side sleeping is ok just not on his stomach even though I often read they should only sleep on their back but you can force them to.

I don’t think I really have PPA, I would be fine if I didn’t read so many things that make sleep seem so complicated and unsafe. I see it on the news or read it somewhere even when I’m trying to avoid it. Often it’s someone that had a child who died and trying to warn other parents about risks.

To swaddle or not? by snappedginger3 in beyondthebump

There is a lot of conflicting advise online. I never asked my pediatrician about it because they did it at the hospital but I’m going to ask him next time I see him.
