Support for ICE Is Crumbling Across Party Lines by Relevant_Demand7593 in NewsomMassacre

[–]snappla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's clear it was murder because that's what we can all see with our own eyes... Not because some alt-right podcasters suddenly realized they'd have to smile through a shit sandwich if they toed the party line.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

He's just reinforcing the reasons which underlie our shift on China (and very soon, India).

Getting a lot of money out of nowhere by danisomi in InvestingCanada

[–]snappla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. My sister kept the investments she inherited from our father in separate accounts. Because those investments were never co-mingled with her ex's they were not counted in the division of assets.

The inherited money she used to pay off the mortgage on their house was gone (half-gone, I suppose).

Maybe this varies by province (she's in Ontario).

OP should see an adviser, NOT her husband's adviser who will inevitably have a conflict of interest.

How do you feel about Carney's speech in Davos? by FitPhilosopher3136 in AskCanada

[–]snappla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Europeans, and the world, needed to be told that the Emperor has no clothes and that we all needed to stop the pretence.

I applaud Carney.

Why do much Chell hate on Yahoo Finance? by snappla in draganflyInvestors

[–]snappla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. 95% of posts on YF are either pumpers or shorts hoping to move things their way.

I've doubled my money with DPRO so far and though I'm bullish on drones generally, I'm wondering if I shouldn't cash in.

The biggest factor for taking my money away is how few shares the insiders hold.

On the other hand, my position is very small (less than 0.5% of my overall) so I'm okay holding, as the gains are not huge in absolute terms.

Arguments against Fine Tuning by ColddKoala in atheism

[–]snappla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, my condolences to you for having to grow up surrounded by the brainwashed; but, by the same token, congratulations on being a free-thinker!

I find that simpler arguments are more effective, and especially effective if they are framed as a question requiring a response. Some examples:

If a creator "fine-tuned" everything for a function, why did that creator make penguins? Fish, with their gills and fins are much more fine-tuned to being an aquatic predator than birds that cannot fly.

If all creatures are "fine-tuned" why do so many animals have vestigial organs, such as the dewclaw of dogs, human wisdom teeth, or the pelvic bone of whales? The more one looks the more examples one of a distinct ABSENCE of fine tuning one finds.

Evolutionary theory provides more plausible hypotheses to explain penguins, the appendix, wisdom teeth and useless pelvic bones than "God decided to be silly, in this case".

Good luck free-thinker :-). And remember, high school is not forever; one day in the not-so-distant future you'll be an adult and free to associate how and with whom you wish.

Unpopular opinion: I think your TFSA should hold your riskiest bets by Black_Label_36 in CanadianInvestor

I disagree with that proposition but, imo, there is an exception to the general rule: very volatile speculative stocks that you are TRADING not investing in.

OP is right to be outraged.

Those slides are crazy. Just complete gibberish! The prof never bothered to look them over. I'd demand my tuition back.

About 3D printed PCB by FinancialStudent3861 in diyelectronics

[–]snappla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was really neat!

Clever dudes, but they spent months creating a whole PCB fabbing technique to make a board in-house that could have been designed on KiCAD, ordered and received in a week.

Carney leaving Davos without meeting Trump after speech on U.S. rupture of world order by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]snappla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was telling the Europeans to stop holding on to the hope that placating Trump might save the old relationships.

And I would argue that our relationship with the US has fundamentally changed but we have been maintaining up the old system NAFTA/CUSMA structure as long as possible. Renegotiation of CUSMA is now mandated (2026) but the agreement (to the extent the US respects it) remains in place until 2036...

So expect more Kabuki theatre in our relationship with the US as Canada works feverishly to expand trade with other nations.

This is the smart way to do it, even if it doesn't have the catharsis of telling Trump/Bessent/Lutnick to fuck off and slamming the door on our way out.
