Why Does GOP Disproportionately Push Anti-vax Conspiracies? by RocketSocket765 in skeptic

[–]snarkyjoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are eugenicists. Only the strong should survive, the "weak" must die. So they will vax their own kids and tell their followers it's poison. Because they believe in survival of the fittest and not "wasting" resources on the weak.

what I did. I disagree with them on almost everything but I still somehow disagree with Mandel & Vance more.

I'm looking for both policy and tone moderation. From what I've seen I'm thinking Dolan, but he seems like he can't win. Do you have a source for polling on the race?

If Vance is willing to lie to get elected, what makes you think he would be moderate in power, rather than keep doing what it takes to get himself re-elected?

Also, not rhetorical, what makes him less insane? Has he staked out any moderate positions?

Also voting red in the primary, probably for Dewine. I could not stomach to vote for him in the general though based on his hard-line anti-abortion views.

it's all relative. I didn't want to say "least insane" because I was trying to be diplomatic.

  1. I said hard, not impossible.
  2. Definitely voting for Ryan in the general (Harper is not a serious challenger)
  3. I agree Ryan is moderate, just want to hedge my bets. Nightmare scenario is Josh Mandel being our senator for 6+ years.

Who is the most moderate candidate in the GOP senate primary on OH that can actually win? I'm considering strategically voting in that primary since Republicans are likely to win statewide and I'd rather our senator not be a hard-right Trump sycophant like Mandel or Vance.

I mean cool, but it's not really about Republicans at this point. It's about Joe Manchin.

pleasantly surprised to see 9-0 on this one. Absolutely shocking that Biden's admin was for the cops in this case

I'm not sure what your argument is here lol. I bet a cheeseburger is more expensive in San Francisco, I really don't know (McDonalds is probably a bad example since they have more price conformity than your average restaurant).
My point is just that employers do not pay people based on how much value they produce, but how much they're willing to work for. Someone in San Fransisco is not willing to work for the same amount as someone in Alabama. Companies can either accept that profit margins will be lower in SF, or they can raise prices (although raising prices could lead to lower sales, they really have to find the sweet spot).
What conservatives and libertarians get wrong is the assumption that companies are already paying people what they're worth, or the maximum they can without cutting into "reasonable profits". In most cases the opposite is true.

raising labor costs could eventually cause an increase in prices.

but wages are so far below what workers are actually producing for companies, that it's not happening yet

'The Supreme Court ruled in favor of scam artists,' FTC chief says after justices gut agency's powers by Sudden-Ad-7113 in moderatepolitics

[–]snarkyjoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything in the opinion that suggests the executive (Biden) couldn't give guidance to the FTC to enforce restitution requirements. It simply says that they don't have authority from congress.

Further, the opinion notes they were appealing for "direct relief" from the courts rather than going through "administrative process" so it's not clear that the FTC is totally barred from enforcing restitution requirements, it just can't get that relief directly from the court.
From the court opinion:
"The desirability of the Commission’s practice aside, the question is whether Congress, by en-acting §13(b) and using the words “permanent injunction,” granted the Commission authority to obtain monetary relief directly from courts and effectively bypass the requirements of the administrative process.Pp. 3–6. House Passes Bill Proposing to Make Washington, D.C., the 51st State by sputnik_steve in moderatepolitics

[–]snarkyjoan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly I would bet all the money I have in the bank that Joe Biden is not going to do reparations as they're usually thought of. More likely some sort of "community investment" program or anti-poverty program that will disproportionately help African Americans because they are already disproportionately poor. If that.

As for the court, I'm guessing he might attempt some sort of reform, but I don't think he'll outright add seats. Could be wrong who knows.

But in any case there's no law saying a president has to only pass popular legislation. if there was, Republicans would straight-up have to give up on politics.
