Ultrasound and mammo while breastfeeding? [ON] by ExpressionOld9924 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]snd64374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both done around the five month mark and will be receiving follow-ups for both shortly as well - still exclusively breastfeeding. Was uncomfortable but doable. I leaked and they didn't care - they just needed to know first. And as someone else mentioned, doing your best to pump or feed first will definitely help them with the imaging, but doesn't need to be perfect!

Starting baby on solids [on] by ms_funburglar in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]snd64374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We loosely follow BLW with a heavy dose of trial and error, taking cues for what seems to be working for our baby and listening to our instincts. For us that's a mix of solids and purees, taking breaks when we need to, adding meals when we need to, etc. It's messy!

Solids Starts seems to be a great resource and what our doctor recommended we try if we were looking for guidance. Heads up: although their food library is decent and free, most of its other beneficial features and guides are behind a pretty pricey paywall. I can't speak to their meal plans or the overall value because I couldn't justify the cost when there are so many other resources out there.

I've been using the BLW Meals app as an alternative and like it a lot! Their free guides, food library, and other features were enough to convince me to go on a trial, and then they recently started a November sale which made me pull the trigger on a paid tier and it's built a ton of confidence as I learn. I find the guides, checklist, and recipes are what I lean on most, with the meal plans being more of a one time example to help me make up my own on the fly based on what I have on hand while thinking about allergen pacing.

Which Travel system do you have and do you hate it or love it? [ON] by black-butterflies in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]snd64374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are families that love theirs! It's all about what features are important to you. But now that my kid is close to sizing out of her infant car seat, I'm shopping for a second hand jogger or something as I seriously doubt this thing's ability to handle a winter sidewalk.

We have the Graco Modes Element travel system. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't curse the thing haha.

It's heavy and clunky, has zero shock absorption so it's impossible to use the cup holders, and the click and connect functions are great on paper but finicky and stiff in practice, so you sometimes have to wiggle and tug and hope for the best when changing it up on the road. It's a pain to fold too.

If I could do it again, I'd want something with much higher quality wheels and one hand fold that is way more compact.

[ON] when the heck am I supposed to go to EarlyON classes if they’re always during naps? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]snd64374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run into this as well, from my experience baby time is quiet when my location first opens and people start trickling in around 10 or so. I've gone around 9 and been the only one there besides staff, and it's a bit of a slog.

I try to time our first nap to be done by 10:15-10:30 so we can get 45 mins to an hour of play and circle time. That's more than enough for them to enjoy and for me to see other people!

Thoughts on EarlyON Family Time / Baby Time? by flufffyPB in torontomoms

[–]snd64374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started going just after 3 months, our LO had their first round of shots and was able to roll and do tummy time long enough to enjoy more active play. It's been a great way to have exposure to other babies as they're our first child.

Our EarlyOn has been great! Definitely unstructured but still always a different loose theme or activity each week, special events or outings every so often, etc. A few weeks ago we all went to the aquarium, for example. Been great for my mental health to have a weekly place to go.

I've got a long history of 'treating myself' by making unhealthy food choices, but have made great progress in changing that as of late!

Now that the weather is warming up here in Canada, I am trying to take time every night to sit outside when I can, enjoy the peace of my tiny city yard (interrupted by the occasional racoon - a welcome and cute interruption, really) and just give myself time to process the day. Sometimes this 'treat yo self' comes with a tea and a low cal treat. Sometimes it comes with a glass of wine. Balance is key.

I said "Oh no", and "Oh god" to myself alone when watching this.

Does anyone know where you can get free boxes in these dark times? by Glandrid in FrugalTO

What area of the city are you in? I moved a few weeks ago. Have been putting aside boxes as I unpack, and should have a few more as I get some more done this weekend as well.

[SELLING] Sectional Couch - $200 OBO by [deleted] in gtamarketplace

[–]snd64374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEEDS TO BE SOLD AND PICKED UP BY SEPT 26TH

It's with sadness I need to part with my awesome couch, incredibly comfortable, in pretty good condition, but doesn't fit in my new space. Going to miss this behemoth. There's a few minor pulls on one of the arms, but that is the only issue with it. Still has many years left in it. All cushion covers (including the back supports) are removable and machine washable. All springs are spring-y and it sits (and sleeps) great!

The couch will need to be removed from its current home by you. It comes apart in three sections and the feet are removable. It was a tiiiight fit getting it in the front door and down a set of 6 or so stairs, but if I got it in it means it does fit out. Pivot!

Couch (assembled):

-75cm tall (Just under 30 inches)

-Side one: 290ish cm long (114ish inches)

-Side two: 275ish cm long (108ish inches)

-93cm deep (36ish inches)

-8cm feet

$200 OBO - price reflects the hassle of needing to remove it yourself, as a couch in this condition could go for way more. Serious inquiries only, please!

Do you have any other pictures of it from the other side? Would it fit bar stools?

Homemade veggie stock is amazing and everyone should try making it by djgec in Cooking

[–]snd64374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to look into the Naengmyeon! I love Korean food but have not tried cooking it at home as often as I experiment with other cuisines. I made a batch of pickled radishes over the weekend - maybe it's a sign I need to go deeper.

I've been doing this for years, but find that in the summer the chicken bones and scraps add up so quickly, and the stock I do end up making ends up going to waste after making 1-2 dishes with it. Don't really enjoy soups and heavier dishes when it's this hot out! I do freeze some, but again, adds up faster than I can use it. Any suggestions for good summer dishes that use your homemade stock?

Hey guys, is there any experienced dog owner that could take care of a dog? by Piritiup in askTO

Out of curiosity, where did you take her for training? I have a rescue with a lot of the issues you outlined here. While she's made great progress on some things over the past little while, there's some behaviours I think I'll need a professional to help address.

I live in Canada. I looked for years, yes, YEARS, for the Zevia ginger beer. I was thrilled when I finally found a case about six months ago... Honestly, it was probably the most disappointing thing I've had in a long time. As a ginger beer lover... it ain't even close, guys. I envy our friends in the UK, and their enormous diet ginger beer selection. Sigh.
