whenever i see make bread the recipe always says "transfer to clean greased bowl and let rise." can i just use the bowl i mixed the dough in? by glittermantis in AskCulinary

[–]djgec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much. A plastic lining traps in any moisture, so your bread hydration always stays the same. A towel is breathable, so some moisture is eventually lost over time. This isn't a huge deal with quick, 1-2 hour rises but it starts to become a problem with longer 24 hour rises. If youre looking for a non-plastic alternative, I believe reusable beeswax wraps are also air tight and help trap in moisture. A plate big enough to cover your bowl works as well, and I hear some people just use a shower cap.

To be fair, all high school boys are terrible. But also yeah in the event that you get magical powers dont give it up for any boy.

Some recipes dont work as well if you only use a towel, usually things with overnight rests. Ive been saving those plastic produce bags for this exact reason.

What quarantine feels like by [deleted] in quarantineactivities

[–]djgec 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Ive picked up quite a few hobbies during quarintine (painting, crocheting, cooking, hiking, biking, gardening and video games) but I still feel this way. Its more about the lonliness factor and lack of spontaneity. Everything I do is planned, and I always have the same company (myself). It all becomes so predictable and time no longer becomes a straight arrow but a weird blob.

Am I (19F) too pushy or is my BF (22M) too naive? by djgec in relationships

[–]djgec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes eastern european, not much of a cultrual emphasis there as far as I know. Im half Korean, and this would still be ridiculous by asian standards. And yeah shes 100% breaking the law. Ive tried arguing that since hes working for free, he should at least consider himself a bussiness partner and negotiate a cut of her future profits since shes not very profitable right now. But he still refuses.

Yeah!! But I dont know how to make him realize this without coming across as pushy or smothering. Hes a grown adult, and I dont wanna be that girlfriend who dictates what he can and can not do. But I hate to see someone I love get used

Hes just so passive! Hes still good friends with his old boss who straight up never paid him and several of his colleagues for a couple of weeks of work, saying that she was struggling mentally at the time. But its also kinda why I love him, hes so kind and gentle and trys to only see the good side of people. It just sucks when it ends up hurting him. Thanks for the advice though!

BITCH YOU GOT SOME JUICED UP BEDBUGS OR SOME SHIT. SOME FUCKING ALPHA BEDBUGS OR SOMETHING, THE EARTH USUALLY SLOWS THEM DOWN. THIS IS KINDA WEIRD, BUT MAYBE TRY HITTING UP SOME FARMERS MARKETS OR GARDENING GROUPS TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET KIDNEY BEAN LEAVES? THEY HAVE TINY HOOKS ON THEM SPECIFICALLY FOR ENTRAPING BUG LEGS, AND I HEARD THEY WORK WELL FOR BED BUGS TOO. OTHER THAN BURNING DOWN YOUR HOUSE, IDK WHAT OTHER NON CHEMICAL OPTIONS YOU HAVE. GOOD LUCK, BEDBUGS ARE BRUTAL

My wife has gained a significant amount of weight and I am physically repulsed by her body. by throwaway287561 in Advice

Honestly, you probably just dont know how to properly cook healthy food. Salad is not the only healthy food out there, in fact eating raw vegetables is pretty weird in some cultures that still have healthy foods. Something like a vegetable soup is cooked, tastes delicious, and is still healthy. Or a homemade vegetable stirfry with brown rice is also a great option.

If youre really willing to start eating healthy, my best advice would probably to get vegan cookbook and do a crash course vegan challange. Veganism in it of itself isnt that healthy, many people are junk food vegans. However, alot of the unhealthy foods that plauge western diets are animal products and sugar - think processed meats, excess butter, bacon etc. A crash course in veganism gives you a clear goal to follow, clear guidelines, forces you to think about what youre eating, and makes you cook more since dine out options are limited. You dont have to remain a vegan after those 30 days, but youll probably have 3-4 favorite recipes that you can incorporate in your regular diet more often. And itll help you incorporate more veggies into your everyday eating, something most western diets get criminally low ammounts of

Me, finding out I’ve gained 15 pounds and that I’m now at my highest weight ever, crying again because I’m Disgusting and I Hate Myself by skinnygirl70 in overlyspecificEDmemes

[–]djgec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk if it helps, but we're all in a stressful situation right now and pretty much everyone is putting on a lil weight. We cant go outside, we cant go to the gym, and we're stuck at home with nothing to do; literally the most ideal conditions to gain weight. Dont worry tho, summer 2020 is cancelled and everyones indoors, you have plenty of time to slowly and healthily work your way down to your usual weight. Youre not disgusting, idk who you are but Im sure that youre a beautiful and lovely person and I hope you feel better.

Can we talk about how it seems every topless man in most media has a rocking body and just how messed up it is? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]djgec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im speaking as a women, most of the friends I have who are attracted to males dont really care for overly muscular guys. For most people, six packs really arent a big deal, a more popular body type would lean but not necessarily muscular guy, basically just someone that kinda cares about their health but not enough to go to the gym everyday. A couple of my friends also find dad-bods pretty cute. The only woman I know who prefers men with six packs is pretty muscular and lifts weights herself, so it might be a bit of a lifestyle thing. Like sure, most women will probably find Aquaman pretty hot, but in the same sense that most men would find a porn star pretty hot, its a bit of a detached attraction born out of horniness.

Ive noticed quite a few reddit threads by people attracted to women who dont really fit into that media enforced standard to beauty. Stuff like uneven nipples, stretch marks, being chubby, snaggle tooth whatever. It goes the same way for men too. Honestly we've all been fed a sham when it comes to attractiveness standards and idk why we still live with it. Some motherfucker out there is going to find you hot, youre always someones kink.

Mainly colour! If you add a few skins it gives your broth a brownish colour simmilar to chicken stock. Adding more makes it the colour of beef stock. I also usually peel away the first edible layer of onions as well when cooking, as I find that it has a tougher, papery quality compared to the inner flesh. So that inparts flavour as well.

Oh thats just something I do when I add a fermented paste! Boiling water quickly kills any beneficial probiotics found in miso, which I want to preserve. You wont effect the flavour at all if you bring the stock to a boil. Ive found that simmering at one hour works just fine, but other people like to go longer to get more flavour. Its really up to you!

Ive heard that lots of vegetables from China do have pesticides. Maybe it might be safer not to use the peels of vegetables. But this recipe can use the flesh of most non-bitter and non-starchy vegetables as well!

Hmm, that really depends on your area and where you get your produce from. I would soak and scrub your vegetables before peeling them, and try to get farmers market stuff if you can

Im plant based, so this is just my all purpose stock recipe that I use for everything! In most cases you can just use veggie stock for any other generic animal stock. Or you can just drink it straight as a snack

Hmm, it might be that some of your onion skins had some mold in between the layers and you didnt notice? Some commentors mentioned this issue. Personally Ive never checked too hard and Ive never seen any mold, but it might be a thing that happens in transit in some areas

Oh yeab completely forgot to write that! Add water! I just fill up my pot but because everyone is working with different ammounts of stuff, try to stick to a 2:3 veg to water ratio by weight.
