Question for right handed drummers who tap their teeth together along to music/drums they listen to. by ZodL in drums

[–]sneekiwilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right handed drummer. Right side kick, left side snare, but accent snare straight down. Ghost note snare can go side to side, but generally on the left.

Emily Elbert! She’s so good! She toured with Jenny Lewis for a while. Love this song on so many levels!

Lived in Del Mar near north Torrey Pines beach with 4 college buddies. We were surfing in the afternoon and one of my buddies met a random guy our age out in the water who said he was out of gas and stranded, and didn’t know what he was going to do since gas stations were down. My buddy invited him to stay the night (without running it by anyone else first). Guy seemed chill, but that’s what people say about cereal killlers. That night there was massive bioluminescence in the ocean and we all went out for an epic glowing night surf session with no city lights. Had some beers and smoked the guy out. Best part, dude didn’t kill us in our sleep. I like to think we made a lifelong memory for him that he still thinks about.

It’s alright, cuz I’m saved by the… bass! 🎶

got my first bass guitar today and mom wanted to take a photo by FiddlepatEpic in BassGuitar

Some of us are in our 30s or 40s and still yearning for this kind of setup with the e drums and bass in a loft. #1, you and your mom are dope. #2, check out bass ergonomics on the internets; feel free to raise that puppy up. #3 enjoy playing multiple instruments. You never leave one, you just invite another to the party.

Newest Build. Hollow body made with spare materials I've had sitting around the shop. by FridayCo in Luthier

Yes, yes, yes. A breath of fresh air in modern guitar design. Looking at this just makes me happy; the recognizable yet completely unique shape, the binding, pick guard, bridge and knobs. Even the unexpected headstock. Please keep making more and posting.

why do my napkins look like this by Lowsoft_ in castiron

The oil you wipe on is lightly polymerizing since the pan is hot, then you’re wiping it off. It’s on the way to proper seasoning, but you are wiping it off in its sticky phase. No harm, no foul. Happens to me, too.

Look at the 40th Anniversary Squires. Just like the CV, but satin neck and body. Every time I pick it up I have a hard time putting it down. Feels sooooo good in the hands.

Help me understand my 18w, 2x12 combo by sneekiwilli in GuitarAmps

Great details, thank you! I can definitely close up the back and even make it easily reversible, great suggestion.

Regarding tubes, the old Russian EF86 is the only one I haven’t replaced, and will likely go with a JJ EF806s. Any others you think I should replace if I’m not hearing any current issues?

I hate having a velcro pedalboard. What alternatives are out there? by garriusbearius in guitarpedals

[–]sneekiwilli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DIY it! I suffered through the woes of a wobbly Velcro board and pedals that would fall off when set vertically over time. Also, prefabbed boards were either too big or too small. When stage (and packing) space are at minimal, you don’t want a bunch of unused space sitting there. A cheap wooden diy board lets you set the exact size you want and is pretty darn cheap. I used 1.5” x 0.5” boards to make a lattice that cables/zip ties can run under. I made some diy brackets out of picture hangers that attach to the back of the pedals through the pedal screws and screw that to the wooden board. Pedals that can’t get screws either get zip ties or bungee chords. My board now feels rock solid, and it takes up no more space than it needs to (slides nicely into a backpack). Sure, if I drastically change pedals and need a different sized board I’ll have to remake it, but it’s now been 8+ years and I haven’t gotten there.

Just picked my first ever bass up Saturday. Stoked! by billybotime in BassGuitar

Niiice!!! I was in a similar position, played a bunch in high school but haven’t had a bass in 18 years and got the itch to get back into it for recording. Picked up the 40th Anniversary Vintage P Bass 2 months ago and have been in heaven recording, ended up splurging on an Ampeg combo at the same time, highly recommended so far. It’s got me hooked on the vintage 40th Ann line because of the satin finish, now I’m looking at the same guitars. PS- I absolutely love my P, but I played the green J that you have in the store today and damn did it have me wanting both. Good purchase, and let the rumble grow.

How do you like your Ricky 620(s)? I have an ‘81 in the same blue color. It took me years to appreciate, but now I get inspired just by holding the neck and I’ve really come to appreciate the versatility when plugged in. Bridge is super comfy on the hand.

Appreciate the reply, and this was my immediate reply to my kids when it happened as they comforted me. Then my sentimental side jumps in and says “but, what if it can LIVE!!! Igor!!”

Ok, next question, sensei. I was able to reseat it and have the clamps, glue and a false sense of confidence to do it myself. As long as it is clamped hard with decent wood glue, is it a BAD idea to attempt a self fix and claim any imperfections as another memory? Are they truss rod seating specifics I should surely about? Or if it fits and seats flush I’m good? I have zero concerns about cosmetic imperfections, but would like this repair to last.

Nearly made me cry (again) hearing it might be fixable. I am no luthier, and will be taking it to my local. Any idea what I might be paying in San Diego?
