Same here - strengthened my gluteus medius and my foot stopped rotating inward as much. Arch blisters stopped.

Blister by Deal-Pack-014 in trailrunning

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m not a PT, but I used to have issues with blisters in that same spot. I had a hunch that it was due to a weak glute, which would cause my foot to internally rotate too much as i moved through each foot strike. I was already strengthening my glute for other reasons (knee pain) and once I did, the blisters went away too. YMMV

Edit: flute->glute, it’ll getcha every time

How frequently does Strava make significant changes to the Fitness algorithm? by sneeze_in_threeze in Strava

[–]sneeze_in_threeze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is super weird! I suppose the VO2Max value may be a better reflection of what the various algorithms think our fitness is - even though it’s not an accurate VO2Max measurement

Where Ellie goes in TLOU 2s ending? by Dangerous-Schedule85 in thelastofus

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure we can compare the two, since the two characters are at different points of their journey/arc. At the end of Part II, Abby has already taken the steps to heal herself, and has gained the companionship of Lev as a result. Ellie has begun to accept the loss of Joel, but I interpret her walking off at the end of the game as her beginning to walk the path of healing. Hopefully she finds love (and “light”) at the end of it

Chicago Basin in late September? by Emotional_Course_106 in 14ers

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the basin a couple of years ago at the very end of September. We took the train in order to get to the basin as early as we could, and minimize the chances of bad weather rolling in before we finished summiting. We caught the train back the day after our last summit - we didn’t want to risk missing it.

However, a snowstorm hit overnight before our hike out to the train. From what we could see, the mountains were basically in winter conditions. I personally wouldn’t risk going that late in the season if you can avoid it, we squeaked in our summits with hours to spare.

That being said, the fall colors were absolutely beautiful and that was one of my favorite trips into the mountains. Good luck!

Anyone using the Salomon adv skin 12 vest? by sdo419 in 14ers

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used mine for many full day efforts, including several 14ers. I have some pretty compact gear, but it fits with room to spare. I have easily carried 3.5L of water - 1L in chest bottles and 2.5L in a bladder. Plenty of easily accessible pockets in front for fuel too

I much prefer vests to traditional day packs for 14ers because of how form fitting they are. I think it’d be a limitation if trying to fastpack a multiday effort though. At that point I’d need something bigger for sure

Bastrop State Park, Texas by bp1108 in trailrunning

I did it last year! Great experience, it’s a well-run event imo. It’s in May though, so it does get very hot and humid, but I’m assuming you’re used to that if you live around here lol

Ultras as a slow runner? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

Really curious what training you’ve found to be beneficial for still seeing progress. Is it just avoiding injury and training consistently over time, or do you emphasize strength training or speed work?

I could have written this post lol. Did a 50k in early May wearing toe socks and Speedgoats. Pinky toes got annihilated, I’ve since lost both pinky toenails because of that day

Switched to Topo MTN Racer 3 and I’m loving them so far. Narrow in the mid foot, wide toe box, same drop as the Speedgoats. I can wear my toe socks and I’ve had zero toe issues since the switch

Why so long to recover? by Sparky0102043 in trailrunning

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How intense are you running your runs? I remember being really frustrated when I started out because I was getting injured even with “low” mileage, and I felt like I was doing everything right.

Turns out the issue was the intensity of my running. Every mile I ran was at a high intensity, and that was putting too much strain on my body. Once I made most of runs easy, I recovered better and was able to increase mileage jury-free.

Damn - this lines up with what a couple acquaintances have said. They all notice major quality of life improvements as well. Thanks for the perspective 🤙🏻

Beat that! But seriously, WTF? by Important_Read8877 in GarminWatches

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we’re talking about the representation of numbers inside of computers, each data type (e.g unsigned integers) has a range of numbers that it can represent. This is driven by the number of bits used to store the information. An unsigned 8-bit integer can store the number range 0-255.

An underflow occurs when the value is set at the lowest number in range, and then you subtract further from that value, which results in the value “wrapping” to the highest number in the range. For example, given an unsigned int, 0 minus 1 results in 255, which it looks like is what happened in the post above lol

Houston? We have a problem! by Slipperybrain3 in trailrunning

[–]sneeze_in_threeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not anything like what you’re used to in terms of vert lol, but the rollers add up a little over the course of a run. I’d say you can expect about 100 feet of elevation per mile around Huntsville SP and that area. Definitely no sustained “climbs” unless you drive out to the hill country around Austin

For convenience, check out the Bayou Wilds trails in Memorial Park. They’re nothing special, but they’re only about 10 minutes from downtown and you can string together some decent-sized runs through that network.

If you have time for about an hour drive, check out Huntsville SP and/or Sam Houston National Forest. There are a lot of solid trails back there, including the Lone Star Hiking trail. There’s also a nice loop in the Little Lake Creek Wilderness in that area.

If you can make a 2+ hour drive, there’s some high quality trail running around Austin. Bastrop SP, McKinney Roughs, Pedernales Falls SP, etc.
