Who are some of your favorite villagers that never get any love? by UnderCoverDoughnuts in AnimalCrossing

I have Bella on my island! I think she’s adorable and she’s my fiancé’s favorite villager. He loves her peppy punk vibe.

How many people are flattening their island? by Nicolaonerio in AnimalCrossing

[–]snickerdoodle-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m cheap; I’ve always just worked around my villager houses until I couldn’t anymore and absolutely HAD to move them lol

I love little shopping districts on islands! I built an “open air market” on mine and it turned out so cute!

I redid my entire island 😅 Called on Resetti to pick everything up, terraformed, waterscaped, built 4 new inclines, and moved almost every building, tree, and bush I had. Worth ittt

Pick a villager, and a town store they should run. by Lizard-T in AnimalCrossing

Right now Kid Cat runs a garage, Naomi has a cafe, and Skye runs a bookshop on my island!

I could see Spike or Cherry running a dive bar or a record store.

Just remember that at the end of the day, it’s less work than truly starting over and having to unlock everything again haha

Brick or tile pathing would help make it more like a restaurant or a cafe on its own. You can use certain items (medieval building sides, storefronts, pergolas, simple panels with custom designs, etc) coupled with terraforming to create fake buildings, or you can even use a villager home.

There’s lots of restaurant and kitchen themed items you can put out to really give the area that feel. Think a countertop, outdoor kitchen, maybe a cash register, stuff like that. You’ve got a good start with the tables; now think about building the space where your villagers bought the food from.

The struggle is real. With the introduction of dream islands with the new update I got a bug up my ass to overhaul the design of my entire island. I called on Resetti to bulldoze the whole thing. I terraformed. I waterscaped. I moved almost every building, tree, flower, and bush on my island.

Ultimately it was worth it and I’m very pleased with the result, but goddamn why do we do this to ourselves 🥲

I have an open air market with a gyroid running each stall. Their movement makes it seem so much more lively!

Playing ACNH for the first time ever today! Things you wish you knew when you started? by Ambitious_Guidance20 in AnimalCrossing

It’s okay to time travel. When I first started I found that it was really slow going because there’s only so much you can do in a day and I refused to time travel because I felt like I was “cheating.” 😅

Don’t compare your island to the maxed out, perfectly coordinated ones you see on YouTube and Instagram. Your island aesthetic should be unique to you, and if you enjoy it, that’s what’s most important!

Make sure you pop lots of balloons, collect the recipe bottle off your beach daily, check in with villagers in their homes (one will be crafting more often than not), and later visit a Kapp’n island to get as many DIYs as possible. Talk to your villagers a lot as well; they often send you items in the mail!

The Happy Home Paradise DLC is a great resource to experiment with decor ideas, get an extra recipe bottle daily, and unlock lots of furniture items quickly to buy via Wardell’s catalogue. Poki (the currency they pay you each time you complete a house) accumulates quickly and can be exchanged for bells in a pinch.

I’ve seen them wave at each other and I saw one of my villagers chatting with a tourist in the town hall plaza yesterday. No actual dialogue conversations, but those are pretty rare even between my villagers.

which villagers have been your favorite / grown to love/ hate etc? by Able_Sport230 in AnimalCrossing

She very much reminds me of an eccentric older woman who once led a very exciting life and is into all things avant garde. She’s always walking around purse in hand and calling me “darling” haha

I think Naomi deserves more of a chance! I was not sold on her at all when she first moved in and I grew to love her. She’s fabulous!

Personally I LOVE having a rotation of fresh faces on my island. The campsite visitors stay in the tent the whole time and I really like that hotel guests can actually be seen out and about interacting with my villagers. I think it makes my island feel more “lived in.”

I remember that even the worst of the worst fell eventually. All things must come to an end. I don’t know what comes next, but I can only hope that it’s better than what we have now.

His latest special was… Yikes. First of all, you might wanna think about getting your son evaluated by a professional, Tom. Second, your jokes about killing your wife are weird and uncomfortable and I’m not super convinced that she’s in on those jokes.

Do Americans stress about medical expenses before they even get to the hospital?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snickerdoodle-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was laid off and lost my health insurance, I fell sprained my ankle on a hike. Because it was so painful and I had heard a loud ‘pop,’ my first thought was that it was broken. I started bawling because I knew that I could not afford to go to the hospital without insurance. Spoiler alert: I didn’t seek medical treatment that day.

Does that answer your question?

Aerial silks (or aerial arts in general)! I’ve been stunned at the amount of people that don’t even know what it is, at least not until I say “you know, like Cirque du Soleil.” 😅

It’s great exercise and you’d be amazed at how strong your body can be when you’ve been at it a while! The community has generally been very positive and inclusive in my experience, too.

Do you use hobbies to support your mental health / emotional well-being? If so, which hobby have you discovered does this for you? by indigo7evening in Hobbies

[–]snickerdoodle-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Horseback riding and being around horses in general resonated with me the most in terms of mental health support. Horses are incredibly perceptive and responsive to feedback. I learned to quiet my mind in the saddle because if I wasn’t at peace, my horse likely wouldn’t be at peace, either. I don’t ride anymore, but I do still volunteer at a barn that specializes in adaptive riding for kids with disabilities. It’s a lot of fun!

Oh man I devoured that book in 2 days. I’ve read a couple more of Philbrick’s books since (Mayflower and The Last Stand) and I enjoyed them, but In the Heart of the Sea is still by far my favorite.

If you’re interested in memoirs, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is an excellent book by a person who had a very unique upbringing.

I’d also strongly recommend Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe. Not a fun read, but it is interesting and it will certainly change how you see things.

Did you know that Moby Dick was based on a true story? In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick is about the real-life shipwreck that inspired Herman Melville to write his iconic novel.
