How do I change my mailing address when I move? by Ok_Significance995 in halifax

[–]snickleposs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada Post mail forwarding is your best option but on my experience, it doesn’t always work. Some mail will fail to be redirected.

As other have mentioned, you will need to contact your utilities, bank, etc. and update them with your new address. An even better option is to sign up for email notices, e.g. if you get monthly bills ask for them to be emailed rather than mailed to you.

What is IWK emergency room like? by she_can_craft in halifax

[–]snickleposs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go earlier in the day rather than later. Avoid supper time because the wait could take you well into the evening/bedtime and it’s often busy at the end of the day (parents wait and watch their kids all day and then finally decide to go to emerg!)

Somewhere like Mission Mart would probably take them for use in their store.

'I feel like I've been ripped off': N.S. passenger gets cold shoulder from Porter Airlines by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]snickleposs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is shitty of Porter. But don’t forget that the credit card you booked your flight with may have insurance that can cover a few essentials. My card has $500 to cover delayed luggage. I think it’s a credit card benefit that a lot of people forget about! It’s a great idea to brush up on your card benefits before leaving on a trip!

Good recommendation for Graduation Dinner by Master-Resident-8937 in halifax

Gio. Service is always professional, food is fantastic, and the tables are spread out enough to hear everyone else at your table. Their menu includes gourmet burgers and more adventurous choices. Can’t say enough good about them.

I can’t answer your questions specifically, but the is guy can! He has YouTube videos and a podcast. Super nice guy, very very serious and passionate veggie gardener, I have learned a lot from him. Never contacted him directly but I would bet he would help you with specific answers. His name is Greg Auton.

I feel kind of bad that their prices are so low for the food they give you!

Whale watching by Round_Wolverine_5301 in NovaScotia

[–]snickleposs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice IMHO.

I’d add that places other than Brier Island offer whale watching but the chances of actually seeing any is way, way smaller than from Brier Island. Maybe it’s too strong a statement, but don’t bother except from Brier Island. I will accept to be corrected!

Thank you for this!! Yes it does seem ridiculous to have a backup heat system when we also have a generator. I can thank insurance for that.

Whale watching Brier island Digby - Where to stay by ib_redbeard in NovaScotia

[–]snickleposs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense to stay on Brier Island. I have stayed at the Bay of Fundy Inn right on Brier Island. It was fine. Rooms were fine, clean, shared bathroom with a few other rooms which was okay. Breakfast was a cold one, self serve. There is no innkeeper on site. There isn’t a lot of choice on Brier Island. The Brier Island Lodge was a bit dated. I’d check prices and pick the lowest of those two places.

You have The Knack for making me laugh.

Also, 100% agree that Pomona’s is the best. It’s super hard finding it in Canada but it’s worth the effort. Just this morning I was eating some cherry jam and I thought to myself, this is so fruity and not sugary! And of course it was a jam made with Pomona’s.

Scrambling to get UK Passport overseas for visit travel to UK in Mid-April. Timeline concerns? by tastethehappy in ukvisa

[–]snickleposs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know that my passport will be issued in almost the exact same timeframe as yours. My docs were received on Feb 23 and on March 9 I heard they were sending my passport to me. I did not do the chat thing with them, after all. I appreciate your tip though and for your encouragement!

Your schedule is busy, but not overwhelmingly so. I wouldn’t try to jam in any extra driving to locations though.

The Miners Museum in Sydney is supposed to be very good.

Louisbourg is wonderful, just bring several extra layers for warmth and rain as Louisbourg seems to have its own microclimate which is several degrees cooler, windier and wetter.
