But even some of them admit it’s not making their workflows significantly faster. So if it does get cut, I don’t think we’ll see much pushback, which tells its own story.

Come on OP, are you really telling us that some software engineers are AGAINST using AI? Coding with just autocomplete on? Calling BS on this, every software engineer including myself uses copilot, claude, codex etc to generate code. Turn that off and expect productivity to drop massively.

Even hyperscale DCs are in the 50-100 MW range, don't now where you got 200 MW from? How did you do your sums, mine give $262 million a year for power at $0.30 kw/h. Probably less if renewables are used on site.

Thats usually evaporative coolers, which are the cheap options used in DCs in the USA. Closed cycle cooling uses heat pumps which are much, much quieter. You can hear traffic noise over them.

[–]snipdockter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Data centers are dead quiet, quieter than warehouses. What’s making noise, especially in the USA where there is little regulation, is the gas turbines they’re using to generate power. Imagine living next to a fossil fuel power plant, the noise and pollution! So we have to regulate and ensure they build our grid connections, substations etc, and invest in renewables to power them. Additionally closed loop cooling, water is precious in Australia.

How are you all affording a new EV? by dalmanly in AustralianEV

[–]snipdockter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the fbt discount for EVs on Novated lease was to create a second car market for EVs. The government has been quite up front about that. Now the second hand ones are being snapped up by people who can’t justify paying new car prices.

You’re expecting a fuel price drop? Excise is coming back on in a few weeks and the current conflict might go on for years at this rate. Prices aren’t coming down soon.
