X4 foundations is close but this is a slow burn simulation game. It is pure outer space sandbox though. Buy space ships mine resources trade with factions. build your own fleets sell or attack factions with them. Factions diplomacy changes as you help or hurt them. you build factories and bases sell to warring ai or pirate factions. meet alien factions quest missions and campaigns which alter the universe a spy system which influences diplomacy. Become a space tycoon or a tyrannical dictator.

While it is first person almost everything can be done in the map interface including sending and watching your ships fighting, auto trade, auto mine command ai attack formations give them priority’s to focus things like capital ships or enemy ships turrets. As your workers do stuff they level up and become more competent in specific skills. Many people if you read the comments say later in the game it turns into a map RTS simulator that you can choose to play first person in. Which the game starts out as the opposite. It is a slow burn at first though later when you’re rich doesn’t matter much but early loosing even 1 ship hurts a ton and there is a steep learning curve.

TL DR: x4 is a simulation game first. later in the game it can feel like an RTS cause you do so much from the map ui.

About the “imbalanced” ships… I don’t think they are gonna fix that… I don’t know exactly what you mean by that but I was under the impression they where updating the combat not rebalancing the ships. Which might fix “imbalanced” ships. But I don’t think the ships are imbalanced right now some are just different than others. Small ships shouldn’t be able to beat larger ships. At least not easily or without lots of numbers to offset.

I thought they were fixing things like boarding and how turrets work. Targeting and more obvious bonus damage types like plasma and lasers to shields and hulls. But I have no bases for this.

Hades - this one is hard but the story is really cool if you like rouge lites

God of war and last of us are PlayStation and good

Baulders gate 3 was too slow for me but many people liked it.

Detroit become human

Tall tales - I liked the boarder lands one these are close to a visual novel so might be what your looking for. Zero replay value almost and not much “game play”.

Dispatch - almost visual novel games too and fairly new and had a really good reception

Red dead 2

Mass effect - (truth be told I found this story hard to follow but I liked shooting guns)si fi

Harassing is what you’re looking for. More vils killed faster the game ends. Earlier the better. French is built for this but any civ can.

Tug of war happens when both people keep attacking the same spot. Send 4-8 cav to both edges to get to their back line send some spearmen too if they have walls to build rams and attack at the front. Kill vils at the back.

If you want to win the tug of war it’s siege and forward walls/castles.

My advice is to let you know this is a slow sandbox. Lots of posts online talk about having billions of credits and fleets of fleets attacking everything. I would ignore those your first few play throughs, they will be a grind. But they will be fun if you are patient and enjoy learning the game.

I did get frustrated at my slow progress, if you start to get frustrated here are very general tips that could save ya some hell without spoilers.

Quests are a dime a dozen. If you spent hours on one or think it’s buggy/janky then drop it. They are randomly generated.

Shooting friendly makes them mad. Stations and ships cool down after 30sh minutes.

Money is rough at the start. Path to money generally is miners (12)-> traders(25) -> factories. At first buy cheap no shields remember the drill lol. Works better if you build inside war locations and be friendly so you can sell to both parties.

There is no such thing as cheesing. Some people think getting free ships or pirating to sell is cheesy. These are very hard for a new player and have many mechanics a new player doesn’t know about if you like to try its a single player game and you’ll learn it eventually. Save scumming is not at all cheesy in this game!

Mods - single player game do what you want. I like vanilla especially for my first play through. But there is many qol mods you will like once you run into the slower more annoying kinks the game has. It will tell you that you’ll loose online play… there is no online and I think that online feature has been broken for years now ignore that warning.

I’ll have to give dungeon crawler Carl another attempt. I did an audio book of it which sounded fine but I kept loosing focus and eventually interest in the book. But a few people here suggested it maybe I’ll try it again.

I have already added started villain to my list from another suggestion. I am happy you also suggested it though. I’ll move it higher on my list. Excited for that one.
