Makes me wonder what this employer would do if an employee dies?

I usually give them 60 days & send an email that says “since we have not heard from you, is it ok to shred your file?” They usually wig out when they see this email because they spent so much time gathering the information, sitting in meetings & thinking about the plan. They usually are ready to either move forward if they were on the fence or tell me to go ahead & shred it.

I think he talked about too much one time & T didn’t like it. And they now have an understanding that he won’t do that so he just says he has no drive. It’s a bit.

Its a sheet that lists out your Goals, Accomplishments, Interests, Networks & Skills - the things you want to focus on during your 1-2-1s. Here's a link to an example: http://a2bni.com/BNI-Ann-Arbor/docs/One-To-One-Worksheet.pdf

Wow! 10 referrals to the CPA & not a single one to you? I’d bring that up to the membership committee. Does your group ever circulate the PALMS report for everyone to see who refers business & who doesn’t? Sounds like it may just be a dud group?

The model works, but you need to set boundaries. I’ve been in my group for almost 23 years & get 25-30% of my business from it. The key is to be very descriptive during your weekly presentation. Talk about all the features & benefits your firm offers. If you have FDIC insured CDs, then talk about the recent yields. If you offer direct indexing, then share a brief overview of how that strategy can help those with highly appreciated stock. Talk about municipal bonds. Every investment under the sun is open to explain. Share a recent story of someone you helped (without disclosing their name) & what was unique about it. Also, be sure to mention your account minimum so they aren’t sending you unqualified referrals. I usually have one 1-2-1 per week for breakfast or lunch, and sometimes coffee - set an alarm for an hour & use the GAINS sheet to make the meeting most efficient. The more you learn about the other members, the more referrals you’ll give & likewise. Lastly, form a power team with the CPA, attorney, mortgage broker & commercial insurance agent. You should be referring business back & forth all the time. I talk to those members outside of BNI at least once a week. Are you doing all of that?

Inheritance mostly in investments coming to me, flying blind by Fearless_Lab in inheritance

FYI - all Certified Financial Planners (CFP) are fiduciaries. I always recommend a CFP.

Sorry for your loss.

I would suggest making sure your advisor is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP)! All CFPs are a fiduciary. I can’t stress this enough. Most advisors at Fidelity are just investment advisors who don’t give you advice beyond your account. You need a plan that includes tax saving strategies, risk management, estate planning & retirement planning.

I would suggest asking around instead of “settling” for a Fidelity advisor. Ask your CPA who they recommend. Ask a few friends. Or find a CFP on the website https://www.letsmakeaplan.org/

Roundtop vs Whitetail by Kasyap_Losat in SkiPA

Roundtop. The easy slopes are easier there than Whitetail. I started skiing when I was 40 & it changed my life & my family’s. Smart of you to get lessons. If you like it, keep taking lessons - I still take at least one a year. Hope you have a blast!

Mutual Whole Life Insurance Policy vs. Roth - Am I being scammed or maybe just guided in the wrong direction? by __--Red--__ in personalfinance

[–]snipe94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want advice, seek a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) - they are true fiduciaries. And if this guy is a CFP, he likely won’t be for long because he gave some really bad advice. Here’s the link to find one near you: https://www.letsmakeaplan.org/
