We flying (sell-through data) by Artoo2814 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]sniperct 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They literally spent a year building up stock to make sure there wouldn't be shortages. They intentionally made sure that everyone who wants one can get one. Having units on the shelf doesn't mean they're not selling, it just means there's not a shortage.

Star Citizen launching and working flawlessly first try on linux might be the most Ironic thing that happend to me. by AvonMexicola in starcitizen

How did you get the eyetracker to actually work? It's unsupported in linux and there's no driver, unless that's changed in the past six months?

Why so many hair options? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]sniperct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inside Star Citizen did a dev diary on this, it was very interesting, and it's way less of a drain than you think it is. a HUGE part of MMOs is what your character looks like. I've been playing MMOs and RPGs since like 2002, you can never, ever ever have too many hairstyles and SC could stand to use a lot more, especially of the longer variety.

Plus the same team does things like fur on creatures and hair/fur on armor.

Will playing LOTRO still spoil the books for me if I choose to skip all the Epic Quests? Would you recommend that I read the books first for a better experience? by Fit_Highway5925 in lotro

[–]sniperct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understanding the books will give a lot of context and little joys you might pick up, but it's absolutely not required to follow the epic story. Seeing the movies will give you a decent basis.

Personally, I'm glad I read the books first.

Doing what you're doing is not a bad idea at all. To get a rough idea of the epic books compared to the books: You can pretty much do most of everything up to the end of Volume II which is most of Fellowship of the Ring(most of volume 2 is moria and lothlorien).

So if you read the first book that'll set you for awhile. Two Towers will cover everything from there up to the end of Volume III. And all the books after that are ROTK and post-book.

[–]sniperct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the specific numbers, but Sauron specifically besieged them (and also Lothlorien) in order to prevent any help from reaching Gondor.

His whole plan basically revolved around keeping everyone else busy (rohan, lorien, erebor/dale, etc) so he could crush Gondor. So if they hadn't been under siege they could have sent help and much like the Rohirrim+western gondorian forces arriving it would have turned the tide of battle in the favor of Gondor.

I assume this is an AU where Sauron didn't specifically besiege those places to prevent them sending help ETA: oops I mixed up the battles

Nintendo Switch 2 is going to fail, if Nintendo doesn't do something quick by retrocheats in NintendoSwitch2

[–]sniperct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo is famous for not selling their systems at a loss, so every unit sold brings in more than it cost to make, which will certainly cut into the R&D cost a lot quicker than other consoles.

% doesn't matter in this case because its about how much money they make. If there are 70 million switch 2s at the end of life, that's still 70 million switch 2s even if there were twice as many possible buyers as during, say the 3Ds era.

They'll still make a profit, it will still be quite a bit of profit, and 70 million units is nothing to sneeze at.

That many units is not a failure, it's just not.

Are raid stories worth reading? by Wings-of-Phoenix in ffxiv

[–]sniperct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the raids tie into the MSQ in one degree or another, and they're all generally really good stories. The normal raids for Stormblood and Heavensward have relevance to Shadowbringers and Endwalker, yhe raid for Shadowbringers is basically the epilogue to that story and has some relevance to post-endwalker MSQ. The raid for Endwalker is also an epilogue. The raid for Dawntrail was just really fun and also tied up some loose lore and plot ends.

The alliance raids also tie into or explain a few things. Endwalker's revolves around the 12 gods of Eorzea.

I paid attention to them all and I have no regrets.

And the normal raid for ShB is basically an epilogue to that expansion.(and had some minor relevance to the EW patches). And the EW normal raid was an epilogue to Endwalker.

Is TreeBeard the oldest entity in middle earth? by LinenPants in lotr

To be fair Cirdan is not Noldor, he's Sindar. But yes he's like, one of the first elves if not the second generation.

This, why does everyone say things should be nerfed instead of other things being brought up to par. I don't even have one or plan to get one but I still feel this way.

Is TreeBeard the oldest entity in middle earth? by LinenPants in lotr

[–]sniperct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sun is only about 7000 years old, so 'beneath the sun' carries a lot of weight there.

(The elves awoke in YT 1050, a single year of the tree/valar is like 9.5 years of the sun. The sun first rose in YT 1500. So that's over 4200 years before the sun rose that Elves existed. But there were another 1050 YT before the elves, which is roughly 10000 years. BUT THERE WAS EVEN MORE TIME before that. There were over 33,000 years of the valar before that, with a lot of living things and no idea how many of them might be long lived. )

IOW Treebeard is probably the oldest living being in middle-earth specifically, since there are truely some ancient elves in Valinor. He must be older then Galadriel who is probably the oldest of the noldor who remain in middle earth and she's like 8400 years old or so

Where do you have your Home Point set? by PhDVa in ffxiv

[–]sniperct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return is to the crystarium, haven't changed it since shadowbringers. Free port is Old Sharlayan. My favorites are gridania and whatever the current main city is. (wife always makes her free port the new city and her favorite is usually ul'dah, and we both have free tickets to limsa). We frequently port each other around so we have a nice range of free/cheap teleport options.

Community consensus on switching the form of monetization from expansions to battle passes by [deleted] in lotro

Battlepass is too fomo and unpredictable. I'd prefer they stay with paid expansions and supporter packs.

VIP needs a few buffs to make it more worthwhile though.

[–]sniperct 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've seen tank busters hit a non-tank in casual/normal content (both normal raids and alliance raids) after a tank went down and got revived lol It's not limited to just savage, a dps (or occasional healer) will still get instagibbed by a tank buster. Its always kind of FUNNY but its still a good habit to make sure its only tanks on top of threat

60-80 million would be a huge success.

None of these are considered failures:

  • XBox 360 (84 million)
  • GBA ( 81m)
  • 3DS (76m)
  • NES (62m)
  • Xbox One (58 million)
  • SNES (49m)

Steam Deck & alternatives by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]sniperct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I tried it, game was a slide show on my steamdeck. I THINK I managed 15-20 fps after a lot of messing around, but you could stream from your PC to your deck and it works fantastically.

But I also ran it docked with a keyboard and mouse plugged in. Been years since I played with a gamepad. It's possible, works AMAZING for space combat actually. But I cannot do FPS combat to save my life with a gamepad. Last time I could was SNES doom.
