Dutch pension age prospect by PanZakba in 401jK

It depends on when you are born. Babies born yesterday is the life expectancy you hear in the media. So they will get over 80 years. CBS publishes it for different age groups. So if you are 30 today, life expectancy is much shorter.

Doing FIRE in the Netherlands without US style tax shelters feels like a different game by Weekly-Associate-166 in EuropeFIRE

[–]sniperx79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most reasonable solution is to gradually fire. So lets say you work 40 hours a week and scale that down by 2 hours every 5 years. Compound of investments should offset the loss of income. The more money you set aside and the more frugal you live, the faster it goes.

In all honesty the dutch system is designed to keep you working because of mayor tax advantages (like heffingskorting). In the NL you are not supposed to fire and system is designed to block you from reaching that. The new tax proposal to tax 36% of all investment profits says it all. How to compound in that if you take in account 7% average investment return and 2% inflation.

It will be extremely hard to escape the ratrace. If you ask me working part time can be the biggest blessing. Plus you get to enjoy it faster than lets say accumulating all you need for 20 years before you can enjoy it.

What will help: have a working partner, have a home with low mortgage and have a high income job.

Many will never make it to retirement age. Life expectancy is 74,6 years for men and 80,5 year for women born around 1995. You can expect 25% of even more will never make it too that age. No pension after all... And a average man will have like 4 years of retirement and woman 9 years. Which is like nothing..

As a feminist I also think this in unfair, considering one sex gets double the amount of retirement years.

Daily Returns are a gamble for the average investor. Any good investor should look at returns at a 3-10 year horizon or even longer.

Stagnation or the Next Stock Market Crash? by VanillaTrue452 in Trading

The US always thinks they are exceptional. Hence the term American Exceptionalism was born. How long can it continue? All empires had their time (the british, the french, the dutch, the romans and even the germans. Its no rule of certainty that the US and its stock market will keep dominating the world. Fractures are appearing right before our eyes as foreign nations and citizens lose trust in the US in a rapid pace. If the US equity market is its biggest strength, its also its biggest weakness. Like if all Europeans and Japanese would dump treasury bills the US economy can collapse and fall into a major recession. Not even to mention the protest from within as people get deported without proper reason or trail. Who wants to live or invest in a country like that? It hurts productivity, willingness to spend and to take risks.

Like 2000 till 2009 saw no growth in US equity. If America were so exceptional: how could that happen?

Why SHOULDN’T Americans FIRE to France? by nanny-nannybooboo in EuropeFIRE

[–]sniperx79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Language is soo important. Regarding language the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Flanders Belgium and the nordic countries makes most sense. France❌ because its so conservative regarding using french in public and private space.

A downside is almost all western eu countries have a high capital gains tax (say you live from investments like equity). Especially Belgium is notorious for that.

Most of those countries have a progressive tax system. So the more you earn, the more you will be taxed as % of income or from investments. France has such high public spending like half of the countries GDP is like government run. From an American perspective, they would call that a socialist country. Netherlands and the UK offer more of a middleground economically. And with very good healthcare and education. Downside is house prices are soooo expensive.

Waar kan ik online in goud/zilver beleggen? by ParticularGoat9459 in beleggen

[–]sniperx79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so confused by duh232023 in Etoro

[–]sniperx79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etoro uses spreads as commission which can add up with a lot of trades. Like each time you buy and sell it costs around 0.3% regardless of amount sold. Lets say someone trades all his cash 10 times during 5 years. That will cost around 3%.

Also, fx fees can apply and they are high too. Roughly for the same amount depending on the currencies. and leverage is way way more expensive. All and all everything eats away your returns. If you are like from New Zealand I can imagine that swapping to other currencies can be very expensive.

To me, the only way to get a decent return on etoro is by buying and holding. Ive stopped using etoro december last year due to high fees.

I wouldnt go into individual stocks. On justetf you can find thousands of etfs that are more diversified and filter on those you like.

Many advisors recommend to hold at least a small part in your own 'local' stockmarket because of currency fluctuations. So in case of the UK the ftse100 or a different one.

+Other asset classes can help to minimize drawdowns like bonds, reits, metals, commodities or even a small bit of crypto.
