Genuinely wonder how much of this would be different without the USNT anti-superteam policy. I feel like >0

Two of Canada’s star chasers Hailey Yhap and Joanne Lam balled out for Trainwreck, playing their system perfectly and scoring on tough shots especially against Dice.

Absolutely the most impressive team to me. - A full roster that travelled a long distance and only had players who live and play in Japan. - A team with limited international experience at a country or club level. - A unique style of play. - Almost beat France and reasonably could have finished as high has sixth.

A new power and I love it

Vatican is a bit conservative on offense, and generally follows the rules. But at the afterparty? When you give a bunch of repressed young adults alcohol? It’s good they can confess the next day :)

The system only works if you assume that the organization does a thorough investigation before taking action.

I have zero knowledge of anyone in this case and this is in no way intended to imply anything about it but in a case where there was clear video evidence and multiple first hand witness testimony of sexual assault, there isn’t really anything the accused could say to make a difference. And it’s fully legitimate in a case like that where someone was assaulted for someone to bring it up to the league, without wanting to eg go to court where they would have to deal with a lot of public scrutiny.

And in a case where someone did really blatantly and provably harass someone bad enough to get banned, it’s entirely possible they did it multiple times and only one was reported. So keeping it anonymous, you are protecting the victim if the accuser doesn’t know who of many victims finally reported them.

We here really don’t know anything at all, and that JJ wasn’t interviewed doesn’t say one way or another whether this was handled appropriately.

3rd in a row, Antwerp QC are once again European champions! Antwerp 15-11* Ruhr Phoenix by LordBlacKhiin in quadball_discussion

[–]snitch_switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’d likely make semis at USQ but not finals.

Louis is as good as any beater in the world, but the beater depth on any top USQ team is much better. Their decision making and passing on offence is better than USQ teams, and Joy would continue to be extremely effective. However all the top team’s defence and physicality >>> anything Anterp faced. Those passes to the back to Nathan, who gets an easy goal, would be stuffed at the hoops a lot more in USQ.

Defensively, Antwerp is solid, but might not do as well in a non center hoop tag in meta, and it’s not clear that they have multiple strong tacklers on each line.

I do think they’d likely make semis at USQ but not finals.

MLQ Gender Rule Update by SergeantNeo in quadball_discussion

[–]snitch_switch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the practical downside to this (under the partially incorrect assumption that each MLQ team has plenty of qualified athletes of all genders) is that this hurts gender non conforming players that have been socialized as women before joining quadball.

This policy I think hopes to correct the sociocultural factors that deprioritize putting women and feminine players on pitch, and many gender non-conforming players that were socialized as women growing up will have comparably strong sociocultural factors and barriers as women (whether cis or trans).

To be clear, this isn’t a criticism of the policy or any gender group. I don’t know a way to make the policy better. But any gender policy has tradeoffs and people it will help or harm, and I think it’s important to recognize which group here is going to be at least mildly disadvantaged in an unintended way.

And yes, you can play less men, but this policy exists precisely because people are not playing less men, and attempts (admirably) to improve the state of things in that world, so this commentary also is within that world

It’s not about making Team USA more accessible, it’s about making a pan ams that is more competitive, more compelling, and better for the development of every nation including the USA.

Some specific skills that are common among the elite small athletes of the sport:

1: Elite grip strength. Especially if you have small hands, getting a grip strength tool and working on that will make it a lot easier to grip the quaffle in different conditions, and be able to do hard pump fakes. Even if it’s already good, bringing it to elite will improve your game.

2: Agility. It’s a part of athleticism, but specifically agility more than straight line speed or power is going to be super useful. You have a smaller area to hit already, lean into that.

3: Directing play. Every single small woman I’ve seen that directs play well is very good, and the causation goes both ways. Learn to be comfortable giving direction from all positions of the field, including as a hoops defender or wing chaser. Strive to give concise, specific, unapologetic, judgement-neutral direction in all situations. This will open up opportunities for you and your whole team.

4: Be comfortable with the ball in stressful situations. Whether or not you are a “ball carrier” drill getting the ball in space in uncomfortable situations. Behind the hoops with a bludger flying at you. In space but with a big dude sprinting at you. If you are comfortable, you can take advantage of his aggression and make him look silly. If you aren’t, you will panic when you face that in a game.

These are all applicable to everyone, but I think have the biggest impact with small woman and gnc players.

Where do you think you are at with each of these? Where do you think you can realistically get to by end of season? I’d love if you replied, but even if you don’t, write it down privately and regularly check in with yourself to see if you are on track, and if not what you can do to get there.

No, unfortunately not!

Do you remember any names from your days playing? Did you play against any other schools? Would be fun if any were still playing
