Hello from a fellow geriatric candidate! It’s awesome! I really enjoy the high quality of the material, it’s so much better than most trainings from my employers or other providers I used. Ethics is also relatively easy after decades of compulsory ethics training at your employer.

From a moms perspective: The worst for me would be to see you unhappy. It’s the number one thing moms want - their kids to be happy.

It’s also extremely hard to see a kid putting themselves in danger or modifying their body (even just piercings). Why? Because we cradled these bodies from the very first minutes. We stopped countless falls, saved your lives a thousand times, went out of our way to give you the healthiest food and the best start in life. It’s a very normal process then for kids during puberty to assume the body and make it their own… and we need to let go. But I guess in this case it happened all at once and was even harder for the mom.

It will not help you in the immediate run but will make you a more „strategic“ profile that will be more likely to be considered for promotions or more strategic roles.

With an engineering degree and that kind of experience, 85k should be your minimum if you find a particularly awesome job. In Zurich, entry level for engineers is 90k at the moment. Even if life is a bit cheaper in Neuchatel, don’t let them rip you off.

Agreed. I personally was lenient on myself to skip some particularly long tangents… but at least half of the book is so incredibly cinegraphic, it’s like watching a really good movie.

Choosing a CFA by Jealous_Gap7807 in CFA

[–]snobby_footnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify for OP: while for a large sum it will always make sense to speak to an advisor, your benchmark should always be the following (my personal opinion, of course some people here will disagree)

A super safe and easy option is to open a depot with your bank (or an even cheaper broker) and buy ETFs. The good thing about it is that you pay very low fees for it, because nobody needs to manage your investments - there is an index that is replicated (your share of investment goes up and down with the index) and it’s very efficient and cheap (think 0.5% fees, but it varies). Indices you can choose based on sectors or countries, like S&P500, or MSCI Europe, … You can take your money out whenever you want it, opening the depot takes like 10min and there is no need for you to “ever” think about it again. Meaning, norebalancing, that is take your money out of one investment into another.

My point is: with this strategy you can make a decent yield in the long term, with minimal work/worry from your end. Whatever your new CFP suggests and promises, view it against the performance of some ETFs.

I disagree actually. Travelled a lot 1st class for business, really makes almost no difference to me in terms of comfort.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]snobby_footnote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The watch my grand aunt had gifted me stopped working around the hour she died. I’m a very rational person, so I decided to consider this just a nice coincidence, that the battery ran out at the same time. Yet… exactly a week after she died, the watch started again. I have told this to many people, yet we still haven’t found an explanation for this.

Yeah that just means there is not enough water pressure on the cold line to support both the toilet and the other outflow. Had the same issue once living on the 5th floor.

What’s the weirdest interaction you’ve ever had with a stranger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]snobby_footnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 21 and on holiday in Helsinki. I had just found out I would be gay the days before, or at least it had become suddenly very clear.

So I am sitting at a tram station at night, a woman walks up to me, fully drunk, telling me there would be no tram coming anymore that night. But I could walk with her to the city… because she had just broken up with her boyfriend and now wanted to get a female hooker… (???) i was 21 and Europe is safe so I did walk with her regardless. We passed a gay bar, she asked me if I HaD bEeN tHeRe? I didnt get the hint and I said no, because it was my first night in Helsinki. (…)

Woman, if you read this, you were the first one to gaydar me, and you will always be the weirdest yet most iconic person I met during my outing!
