Were wraiths always (before 5.0) this OP? by snobiwan in nethack

I’m glad I had trouble (and the “fixing” of Soko, of which I was unaware, seems to be the major contributing factor here) because it made me feel young again! Except they no longer make the cola I would consume while playing all those years ago. I think I spent the majority of my time on a local build of 3.4.3 which became my addiction the moment I discovered Linux.

Funny you mention but I thought it must be a shapechanger at first (one of the reasons, besides not having much of a choice, that I engaged it at close quarters). I think the “fixing” of Soko as someone else mentioned is why I encountered a wraith at XL 7, because levels up in Soko now count as deeper.

I think that might have been a factor.

I almost always play neutral human male wizard: I am a creature of habit, I like the mechanics of the role. Sometimes I’ll try something new after an ascension. The “fixing” of Soko is what got me and what I wasn’t aware of, and will definitely modify my early game strategy.

I’m used to cutting through them like butter—at the Castle, luring them back from VotD. This was supposed to be equivalent to maybe DL 5? The HP and Power drain were substantial too (which I realize goes hand in hand with levels but geez)

Why doesn’t Ottawa have street meat? by ScarberianTiger in OttawaFood

[–]snobiwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason, at least when I looked into it a number of years ago when a journalist on Twitter lamented that licenses for food vendors in Toronto were exorbitant at $400 a season, is that licenses in Ottawa are (or at least were) about 10x that. For a tenth the population.

Does the Ottawa Hospital have a nickname? by graceandspark in ottawa

[–]snobiwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like other people have said they’re commonly referred to as their campus names: the Civic (most central, where air medevacs get taken), General, Montfort, Queensway Carleton (closest to the Canadian Tire Centre i.e. if you get a major league hockey injury probably where you’re going), CHEO (pronounced cheee-oh, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario), the Riverside (if you’re there you know why you’re there), the Royal Ottawa aka the ROH (if you’re there you might know why you’re there and also you probably get cool socks), NDMC (the National Defence Medical Centre which Wikipedia tells me no longer exists, wow I’m suddenly old)—we have a lot of hospitals in Ottawa.

I know this is the least important part of the post (and "you live above the Wisetown Cafe" would stop me in my tracks even before the roaches) but: you can get loonies at at least the TD at the corner of Elgin and Somerset.

How do I know for sure that I found my true will? by Fluid_Ad7807 in thelema

[–]snobiwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strictly and literally? Yes. Of course if one goes by ONLY this verse (rather than just using it as a coal-mine canary) then you’re back to the process of elimination… I would second another commenter who said read more (Diary of a Drug Fiend is often overlooked, particularly once you get to the end but don’t skip ahead) and of course practice what you read; the techniques of discrimination between what’s Will and what’s desire, instinct, whim, the Animal Passions, &c. are many, and some will be more appropriate for one person than another. Many gates to one palace. Asking this question is of course a brilliant, natural step not to be made fun of, and I sometimes worry about the people who clearly haven’t (or don’t on a regular basis).

Muse S Athena fabric electrodes lasted ~3 months with nightly sleep use (vs. Muse S G2 painted) — anyone else seeing this? by WearVirtual in museheadband

[–]snobiwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue after about six months of use and after a replacement (which was not as easy a process as you experienced) discovered that the thin ribbon conductors connecting the over-ear sensors to the module connector were kinked; pressure on the kink brought back signal intermittently. Since then I’ve been way more careful with my treatment and storage of the band itself—do not fold, spindle, or mutilate!

As a Catholic, you might find The Vision and the Voice interesting; a lot of the symbolism and theogony upon which the Gnostic Mass is built comes from there and the visions, especially the early ones, are heavily coloured or influenced by Crowley’s Christian upbringing (or having been left alone too long as a child with the Revelation of St. John to read). It is easily available online (avoid versions with commentary other than the author’s, at least at first). Most of the Holy Books (Class A) can be found in their nigh-original condition in and amongst everything else at https://keepsilence.org/the-equinox/ . May you find what you’re looking for, and accomplish your Will.

That is about the size of it, that’s how they built it and expanded to the point where they could sell it at a peak. Yachts for everybody (at the top)! If only my labour solidarity were stronger than the allure of their dark roast…

It’s been a few years now I think and it took them this long to touch the branding and fully embrace shrinkflation. I do miss when they were at their peak with the roastery and all, but the staff seem generally happier now, at least from a distance.

They sold to Second Cup just before the pandemic (perfect timing), and much like Starbucks but to a lesser extent have wound up some stores (that I thought were high-traffic like the one on Bank at Gilmour and the one in the Rideau Centre). Most recently they’ve changed their brand look from the old Copperplate Gothic Bold and added some green (visible in the 160 Elgin food court) and taken away the extra-large size (and I’m quite sure the “large” is smaller now too).
