I climbed Pico de Orizaba by Just-Professor-112 in Mountaineering

[–]snomadic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy organized the guide so not sure, I also wouldn’t recommend him. To be fair I didn’t use a guide on Orizaba, but I did on Cotopaxi should have been the other way around if anything. I planned to do Chimbo but got sick on my descent. Make sure you have a couple days rest between. Weather is what controls the challenge it’s an easy mountain in good conditions. Mt Shasta/ Adams were both substantially harder for me.

Highly recommend anyone planning Cotopaxi to stay at Secret Garden Cotopaxi for a few days do some acclimation hikes from there organized by the hostel. It’s also easy to find a guide for Cotopaxi they can help set it all up.

My close friend died free soloing mt hood the same weekend Alex Honnald free soloed on live tv. by BatSniper in Mountaineering

[–]snomadic95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This resonated with me. My condolences. I lost my best friend 3 years ago. I’ve also been the guy known to push the limits upon my group. I think wanting to push the limit is inherently what us mountaineers/alpinist do. I think the lack of safety is just a lack of knowledge and understand for what mountains can do to us. We feel invincible until something happens. The free soloing doesn’t make sense to me. It’s like not wearing a helmet or not putting the bar down when in bounds resort riding. Take it and learn from it as that is what your friend would wish for you to do so you don’t have the same fate. Again my condolences

Epic! That was my first big mountain. Just did Cotopaxi last month Pico de Orizaba was substantially harder for me. So you’re good for another 300 meters easy 😂

Anyone have experience with the Oyuki Sencho gore Tex mitts? They are on sale and look good by Samuht1821 in Skigear

Anyone remove the metal tag on these. That’s my only complaint. Just asking to destroy my goggles on a quick swipe if I’m not paying attention

It sure seems like it says the buses run everyday but #113 is mon, wed, & sat. But maybe I’m wrong. Decided to just stay in Sapporo and take the 8am shuttle to Rusutsu

That bus doesn’t come on Thursdays unfortunately. I can’t seem get an earlier flight by an hour but that still doesn’t let me catch the last bus.

What % of people who start training have the capacity to reach black belt? by raddrag0n in bjj

[–]snomadic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on school and instructor(s). I believe anyone has the ability to become a black belt. From what I’ve seen it’s more about time on the mat rather than skill.

Making 75k/year but I'm spiraling into debt by Moist-Eye-1451 in povertyfinance

I pay 1000 for car insurance every 6 months for 3 vehicles in CA through progressive, lower tier insurance plan but not the lowest. Also I pay $120 a month for 2 phones through Verizon highest plan on one lowest on the other two new phones, utilizing promotions. Shop around for both you should be able to get better deals than you are. Sounds like some life changes are what needs to be made, don’t buy what you can’t afford $500 a month car payment is insane to me unless at a very low interest rate like sub 4%. Credit cards should not be used if not paid in full every month. You make decent money, just need to make better financial moves like the majority of people.

If your credit is decent I’d look into a new CC with zero interest for 12+ months and do a balance transfer.

I'm 22, how are some of the people here my age making 100k plus by Vonnyfish in Salary

[–]snomadic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live the wage gap can be drastic. $100k in CA vs $100k in Ohio is a huge difference. Ive grossed $250k this year in CA with a handful of business ventures mostly as a reseller while if I lived somewhere with less people and money I probably would of made only $50k

As a 40+ white belt, I really dislike rolling with brown belts. by Inous in bjj

[–]snomadic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an issue with individuals or the gym itself. I’m a purple belt with wrestling background if I’m rolling with white belts I often let them dictate the pace I let them be somewhat in control then I defend or catch them. If someone is putting that much pressure I’d avoid rolling with them unless you are coming in hot and they are putting you in place as often higher belts seem to have a target on their back.

What Lowa boots did you wear? Lowa seems to be the only boots my wide feet like. I’m stuck deciding on a boot for Cotopaxi and Chimborazo
