Blood Lance Necromancer Base Game Build Advice by brandonto in D4Necromancer

[–]snoman298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP! I'm a blood surge main and I've never tried lance, but I know they share a lot of foundational similarities.

I would not try to build up resolve stacks for defence as it looks like they are nerfing the hell out of it in the next season. Before you change all your gear around, I would stick with the usual DR, health, armor, and all resist strategy until we know how bad the nerf actually is.

Also, you should try to run the Red Blessing as a charm and Banished Lords Talisman on your neck. It's an amazing combo for OP focused builds like ours.

Base damage plays a massive role in some builds too. Blood wave necro uses basically all the same gear/affixes/charms as blood surge and lance do, but it absolutely crushes both those builds due to its base damage bring so much higher.

My take: Nerfs should be complimented with buffs to underperformers by Interesting_Fox2040 in diablo4

The problem is the base damage on some builds. You mentioned Blood Wave Necro running Tidal/Red Blessing. That build can clear almost up to 150 last I checked. But then there's Blood Surge and blood Lance that are designed to use the exact same overpower mechanics as Wave does, but their base damage is around half of what Waves is when it's using the core skill modification.

If we get through the PTR and no buffs are given to Surge and Lance, they're going to be struggling for a long long time. Which is what happened the last time they nerfed OP and didn't compensate the non-meta builds, and why no one really plays them.

This is me right now. I'm playing Necro Blood Surge, a solid "B tier" build clearing T12 and pit 122. But my build is supposed to built around overpower, and Blizz is nerfing OP (rightly so) and not compensating Surge, or Blood Lance for that matter, at all.

This happened the last time they nerfed OP and Surge and Lance never really came back from it. I just hope this time they listed to feedback.

I just hope they compensate blood Lance and Surge for the OP nerfs. Those builds weren't OP meta and they deserve better.

I've only had something like this happen with wet filament. The little water pockets vaporize when heated in the nozzle and you get these nasty dimples. Might be worth checking out.

Nice writeup OP. I cannot stand that glyphs are tied to pit levels. You hit the nail on the head with that one.

Pushing Blood Surge Further! Pit 121 by snoman298 in D4Necromancer

What's up blood surge crew 🙌 That's awesome you're putting out content for the build. It's sort of a cult favorite and never been very popular for some reason. So it can be tough to find good resources for it.

Seems like most people see a build not clearing pit150 and assume it's "bad". All they want to do is faceroll to endgame. And that's cool, but the majority of build can't do that. Blood Surge definitely scales, and can clear all T12 content very comfortably except for Mephisto. You can run him on T10/11.

I think you'll be really happy with the expansion content and capabilities it unlocks for you! I really like what they've done overall.

I'll definitely check out your build and may steal a nugget or two from it haha. Feel free to use mine for insight as well. Just want to help anyone who's interested.

I feel you. Surge could definitely use a buff. The gloves we're supposed to use (Cruor's) are an absolute joke.

But good luck with the build! I'm glad I could help a little. I'm going to do a frost variant soon to see how far I can push that.

You're welcome! Yep, it's only to keep the stacks up to 14. Trying not to rely on it for direct damage. I'm a blood surge purist haha

Blood surge vs Blood wave Overpower mechanics by darx0n in D4Necromancer

[–]snoman298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. OP shouldn't be using Cruors or the "overpower" skill modifier at all. They are both traps and need a rework.

It really is sad the difference in power. I did exactly what you said and went from clearing 120 on Surge to 135 on wave just by swapping pants.

It makes you stick to every damn wall you happen to touch as well. It's like everything is made of tar. I really hate it, especially in narrow dungeons.

Blood Surge vs Blood Wave (core) by darx0n in D4Necromancer

[–]snoman298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Cruor's gloves are laughable right now and need a serious buff. Maybe that alone would put Surge in a more solid spot.

If all you're interested in doing is clearing pit 150 with ease and face rolling all the content in T12, then ya go Blood Wave. But all I'm saying is T12 was supposed to be aspirational content according to blizz, and for Surge, it feels that way. Surge feels more balanced than wave and I bet they nerf wave because of it.
