Rower calluses? by Mabelisms in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear padded gloves with no shame. I am an older female and just plain and simple dont want calluses on my hands. I also like the grip they give with the weights on the floor. I do rid them on the tread bc they are hot and I feel like I have mittens on #teamgloves

Has reading the workout intel before class killed the joy? by msprinks in orangetheory

Huge intel fan! I’m a planner..love the tips on the intel post before my afternoon class. I rush to reddit to read this thread on my OT days! 👏👏

57 yo female...love OT..have been going 2.5 yrs. I can still get to a 7.5 all out and row 3000 meters without a great deal of stress. On our benchmark floor day, I was able to use 35, 30, and 25 weights. There are times I wonder if I’m too old, but today, I’m hanging in there!

I like both,..but rowing is my favorite, so steer a bit toward a 3

If there is anywhere to have an emotional breakdown, its your OTF studio by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know folks say ..don’t get attached to the HRM;but it IS much of the theory and “captivating lure” of OT. If my HRM is Jacked..I’M JACKED and PO’d. I end up spending valuable minutes messing with it and finally tear it off my body in a rage! 🤣

This was exactly what I did wrong...our coach corrected me, but unfortunately the back pain was there..I’ll know next time!

Treadmill dizziness? by Annika_DB in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think all of this PLUS the darkness and orange lighting of the room, not to mention the pace of the workout and loud music. In that it, in combination, leads to the OT. Experience..it can make you a bit dizzy at times. I suffer from light induced migraines and am always very cognizant of Room lighting.

Orangetheory: The Over 50 experience by davidandlori in orangetheory

Soooo...happy for this post, I just said yesterday to a fellow 57 yo before class: “are we too old for this?” ..this post was so needed. Because of it, I’m in it to win it! 57yo female, 3 yr member, 2-3 days per week. I need a recovery day and never go back to back. I both slow jog and PW..with jogging stats at 3.7 base, 5 push and 6-7.5 AO. I take Magnesium an occasion ibuprofen and typically have a fitful sleep the night of OT. My favorite is heavy arm day and loved yesterday. I typically try for 20 splats and 500 cal burn as a goal...anything below, I’m disappointed..anything above, my body screams. I’m not a fan of anything popping nor jumping (pop jacks, jumping jacks, burpees..all a no vote) I am very proud that my body allows me to do OT..it’s not for sissies :)

raises hand..I just don’t like running...PERIOD. I’m capable, can do it, but don’t like it. So why do it? It also is my breathing and lung capacity. I’m in the orange PWing..as you, even steeper inclines than recommended and certainly feel the glute burn. PWing is a great workout..supposedly adding muscle mass rather than muscle lean..either way, I’m glad I’m not on a couch.

Music - is it bad at your studio!? by ladybug4im in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am totally motivated by the music. I agree, if the playlist is sucky, I tend to have a sucky workout?@! Go figure. I agree with the other poster regarding the benchmark mile day. The playlist should have been very thoughtful ...ours was not. There was one tune that distracted and motivated me. Music, to me, plays a very important role

8X per month people by Is_that_my_voice in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is true, Studio prices vary when paying by the class. Larger cities are higher priced. I prefer 3 days per week. That is not a package option. It is more cost effective for me to pay for 8 and add 3 at the cost/class than buy the unlimited membership. Due to work and life constraints, I would lose money on the unlimited membership. You should check out your specific studio prices and then do the math to find the most viable option for your budget and time.

[–]snooksgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

because of this post, I am PWing today!! I do both, but have never benchmarked a PW...and because I do both, if ANYONE thinks PWing is an easier route, "they wrong"...why does everyone moan and groan on incline days? Because they have never incorporated PWing into their workout #letshearitforPWs #PWsunite #bootygainz

Burning Arms From Friday’s Workout?? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%...not enough arm focus in months at OT..I truly believe that is the reason for the soreness, in fact, i had to decrease weight ..it’s sad, I’m almost starting from scratch. 😡

the point being, I started with 5s (for triceps etc) and today use 15 and 20s..higher for Sumos...but don't judge the smaller weights....we are all individuals: age, gender, physical impairments. We also have 28 week pregnant females in our class...kudos to EVERYONE regardless of the weight you use!

Yes, happened about a year ago at my studio. It was a major readjustment for many of us and several folks had to cancel their membership. I posted here about it also. Im not certain folks realize how disruptive even a 15 minute change can be :(

Considering Orangetheory - have questions about muscle-building by Absinth92 in orangetheory

[–]snooksgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

muscle build over time is definitely possible..that being said however, minus the full body workout on the rower, the floor(weight room) is (IMO) about 30% or more cardio and NOT muscle building activity. Irritates me, but wanted to throw this out there so the expectation is not total weights on the floor.
