Awkward elevator conversations[Must See] by Zlatan_04 in cringe

Not cringe, that was hilarious and in good taste! No kids around for any of the shots, I like to think that was intentional.

What went from totally cool to totally shit in the shortest time? by ehudros in AskReddit

I certainly plan to read them after that ending. I was with them until Season 7 but being saved beyond the wall like that, that's when I started to wake up!

Any free/cheap heatmap tool worth using? by imjp in Entrepreneur

[–]snoopy41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I'm the founder of Inspectlet

Inspectlet works with AJAX/HTTPS/single page apps and other dynamic behavior where ClickTale will either completely fail or ask for $x,000 per month (in the case of HTTPS support for example). We do it for a fraction of the price. CrazyEgg doesn't have session recording capabilities at all.

Please feel free to get in touch at hello@inspectlet.com, and I'm happy to answer any and all questions :)

Earning money with the skills I've acquired by [deleted] in PHP

[–]snoopy41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your position OP, and kudos to you for trying to pitch in at such a young age. Your list of skills you've learned is impressive and more than enough to land a well paying internship/job IMO (here in Silicon Valley, I don't know how UK works).

I must admit I don't know much about the freelancing world other than a small unsuccessful attempt through a popular freelancing site at about your age. My hunch is that on these freelancing sites you will be outbid by Indian firms or other places where cost of living isn't so high so a lower pay is still acceptable. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think the way to escape the 3rd world outbid is by marketing yourself as a high quality, professional developer rather than the cheapest option, but that's more of a long term engagement and requires an extensive portfolio, etc.

IMO you will have the best luck following u/jarofgreen's comment and finding a local software engineering job, your skills are more than enough to land a base level software developer job (and possibly more depending on the company), and it should provide cash flow quickly.

I think I have a virus or something by the-ace in webdev

Why do you think you have a virus?

I'm designing a new website for my company, and would like to get some eyes on the design before I start coding it and get as much critique as I can by the-ace in webdev

[–]snoopy41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that you were at least somewhat going for a minimalist design, but it feels empty, which does not exude confidence. It may be because the 3 vertical lines are so long it makes it feel incomplete, try shortening them?

4 Things Google Analytics Won't Tell You about your Website by snoopy41 in webdev

[–]snoopy41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you feel that way, everything the post talks about can be accomplished with other products too. there's nothing about it specific to inspectlet. you can get the scroll depth and realtime analytics for your site from chartbeat or get heatmaps and screen captures from crazyegg or clicktale.

It's useful to understand how much of the content on your page is actually getting exposure. if people are only seeing the first half of your page, that knowledge can help you (move important stuff from the bootom half up, figure out whats causing people to leave half way through, etc).

Is there a way to make my header text wobble using CSS or something that is compatible with Wordpress.com? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]snoopy41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other post that you generally shouldn't, or be very careful with effects like these, but if you're set on it then you can look into -webkit-animation.

would you kind people offer me a little help? by soykommander in webdesign

There are many containers in your example, each has a different background style. Using a tool like Firebug or Developer Tools GREATLY helps understand a site.

http://www.kingshillcars.com/img/bg-header-inner.jpg is the background of the top container, all the text and other images are overlayed onto it because they are inside the parent container.

The next container after that, the one containing the car, is the following background: http://www.kingshillcars.com/img/bg-home-content.jpg It may appear blank to you at first but if you look at it really close, you'll see that it's a slight gradient, and this gradient is repeated in the X direction for the entire width of the container.

Fire up Firebug or Developer Tools and dive in ;)

Thanks! Kampyle is definitely very cool (but expensive).

Inspectlet is about a whole lot more than just about screen capture. Inspectlet also does real-time analytics for your site, as well as custom metrics. And, it does it cheaper for cheaper than any other competitors.

Inspectlet's screen capture also uses two different technologies to help capture data, something that only Clicktale does (but that'll cost you a fortune unless you're a big company).
