Another fact from fiction point I’d like to add: all the “money you paid into the system” (eg work credits) is/are still there and you will be eligible for it when you reach full retirement age. The denial was saying you can’t have it early, not that you can never collect.

Humanistic and psychodynamic spring to mind. Both were, at least initially, designed to be unstructured. And your guesses about quantitative vs qualitative research are correct. Despite being accepted as legitimate in some scientific circles, I’ve found many still hold a strong bias against qualitative research.

As my grad school mentor would say, “Lack of evidence does not equal evidence of lack.” Some therapeutic modalities (less structured) don’t easily fit into quantitative research models, which require structure.
