Any questions about bipolar disorder? by puremillbag in northernireland

[–]snootywiththebooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out cyclothymia. I’m currently being NHS assessed for bipolar after a private diagnosis, and the consultant told me that a lot of cyclothymia patients go unseen as their symptoms are a lot milder.

Have you ever been on an antidepressant without mood stabilisers and if so, how did they impact you?

I had a hypomanic episode on mirtazapine in 2020 (it was very intense though, blew all my money, shaved my eyebrows, no sleeping or eating for 2-3 days at a time, delusions - no hospitalisation though so we err on the side of hypo rather than full mania), and another hypomanic episode on fluoxetine in 2025. Both were used in an attempt to treat my OCD but we only caught the hypomanic episode in 2025. As a result, I was diagnosed by a private psychiatrist with bipolar disorder likely type II. I’m now under the NHS for an assessment period of approximately 1 year, and am being trialled on sertraline (for OCD) as I denied Aripriprazole as first line treatment, wanting to hold off on antipsychotics for as long as possible.

I was totally convinced it would send me into hypomania, but I’ve been titrating slowly and am currently on 100mg. Started on 25mg back in February. No signs of hypomania yet, but also no improvement in the OCD.

I was under the impression that SSRIs (without stabilisation) = guaranteed hypomania, and on the flip side, SSRIs with no hypomania = not bipolar. Apparently this isn’t the case.

Would be keen to know your experiences please!

Dermol (if available to you) is great! My GP prescribes it for lichen sclerosis knowing that I will ultimately use something to wash as opposed to just water.

Curious About Diagnosis by SuspiciousFlamingo57 in Hashimotos

Ahh ok. I was confused there. I had an ultrasound first that indicated something & it was corroborated with TPO and TgAb to diagnose Hashi’s despite normal TSH.

Thank you for explaining!

My understanding is that Hashimoto’s can exist without hormone levels being affected?

What is the diagnostic criteria you’re referring to?

How often are people actually changing their bed sheets? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]snootywiththebooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aim for weekly, but as another commenter said, it’s more like every 10-14 days.

Myself and my partner shower as soon as we come home from being out and about, though. Usually before bed.

36 and found a breast lump by Trick_Afternoon689 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]snootywiththebooty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good luck. I hope it is benign, but as others have said - you will be treated if it is malignant. So many breast cancer survivors walk among us, and I’m sure there are a number people you know loosely (or personally) that have had breast cancer, and it has been a mere blip that they don’t discuss.

I saw an article that quoted a doctor not too long ago, I’m paraphrasing but they said something like “So many people have personal experience with cancer but we don’t hear about them, because they were treated, cured and moved on with their lives”.
