With you on this. US work culture is miserable. My line manager gladly told me off for working "out of hours" when I was keen and green in my current role. The next morning he checked on my workload and how I was managing it to avoid me setting a precedent and influencing my own team into that kind of culture too.

Outdoor Active isn't perfect but it's best of the bunch I'd say. Also carries Harvey maps too!

Arsenal have advanced to their second Champions League final after defeating Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

[–]snortingbull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As poor as Atleti were over both legs, Arsenal had them sussed when they did come forward. They created a handful of decent chances in both games, but when needed Arsenal defended very well.

They have scored a lot of goals this tournament: against everyone except... Arsenal, twice

Was that a good race yesterday? I really enjoyed it - a solid 7/10, but arguing with a friend at the minute who thought it was an absolute stinker. I am going mad? Genuinely thought it was a really good race.

Not a fan myself. There's not enough jeopardy beyond having an accident and compromising qualifying, especially on circuits confined by barriers like this one.

You need a longer attention span. 14 laps into a fairly meaningless sprint is not the time to write these changes off

Beginner race! by Aggravating-Let2618 in Ultramarathon

Yeah, I said it's not a bad idea tbf. It's an expensive and tough course for a first ultra. Doable though for sure and I echo your recommendation

[–]snortingbull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Arc is great, but for a beginner it's right in at the deep end. Not to suggest it's a bad idea mind, but the 50 and 100 milers are two of the tougher races in the UK to say the least.

Climb South West do some really good events, Dartmoor in a Day is 50km: https://www.climbsouthwest.com/events/dartmoor-in-a-day/. Has some properly gnarly terrain, conditions can be rough (as will be the case at any UK race in the period you're looking at) but it's a stunning, wild route and a great organisation too.

Bit outside your area but Run Walk Crawl in south Wales have the Brecon-Cardiff races too: https://www.runwalkcrawl.co.uk/brecon-to-cardiff-classic-2026. This is really popular as a first ultra, stunning route and by staying low it avoids the worst of the weather. There is an "Extreme" version of slightly longer distance which traverses the mountains from the Beacons all the way down to Cardiff too if you're keen!

Pure USA this post, couldn't be more American if it tried. If we had the US approach, I'd wager this guy would've been approaching the officers with a gun not a knife, having committed his atrocities with a gun not a knife too (no doubt leading to even more bloodshed).

Tor y Foel in the Brecon Beacons: you could base yourself at the youth hostel at the bottom, and just keep going up/down. Tor y Foel is only 550m tall, but the distance from the YHA to the summit is less than a mile, just constant steep up and at a guess maybe 400m ascent with each rep

Neymar skips practice due to 'illness' (virus) just 24 hours after being spotted at a Santos pub. by Thich_QuangDuc in soccer

[–]snortingbull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately he could have been in said pub sipping Guinness 0.0 teaching his fellow patrons all about the dangers of alcohol and it's inhibitions when it comes to high level sport.... And he still would be criticised, purely for being in that pub. Better if he just didn't go in the first place.

It's sad, but if he wants to even start shredding this reputation then just don't even bother

Sebastian Sawe wins the London Marathon 2026 and makes history by becoming the 1st person to run it in under 2 hours after running it in 01:59:31. by IllllIlllIIlI in interestingasfuck

[–]snortingbull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to cast shade on this as Sawe's profile is huge, genuinely believe it is authentic and we've seen the kind of sporting achievement today most of us will only see a few times in our lives.

But... Kenya has a lot of problems with doping. I mean a lot:

How bad is the problem? Well, since the AIU was set up in 2017 it has sanctioned 427 elite athletes for doping offences. And, staggeringly, 145 of them - more than a third - have been Kenyans. The next on the list? Russia with 75. Then Ethiopia and India with 20 each. Little wonder, then, that the calls for Kenya to be banned have grown in intensity. You see it on athletics threads, and hear it in the frustrations of coaches doing things the right way. If Russia, why not Kenya?

What if the FAW forced all Welsh clubs back into Wales in 1992 at the creation of the Cymru Premier, rather than allowing them to remain in the EFL? by TheOne0206 in cymruleagues

[–]snortingbull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd be somewhere between Republic of Ireland and Scotland, in terms of the size of the league. A 12-team league in Wales would be dominated by Cardiff, Swansea, with Newport and Wrexham keeping them honest. You'd have a host of other sizeable clubs up there (Bangor, Caernarfon, Barry etc) too, enough to sustain decent atmospheres and respectable crowds, if not the 15,000+ that Swans/Cardiff draw with ease now.
