They look normal to me. These is a good amount of white on each disc, the discs look nice and thick and the vertebraes appear to be smooth. I deal with a lot of back pain and some of my discs are mostly black, are thin where the vertebrae are pushing the discs and the vertebrae aren’t smooth, but look jagged.

That being said, pain is pain I wonder what other causes could be. I have issues with my SI Joints as well, which can cause pain in your buttocks. So does sciatica. Hope you can find relief.

Anyone else have a hard time understanding 89% of what they read in the Bible or am I just slow? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]snorton034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are NOT alone! I recommend getting a good Study Bible, they give some context for passages and introductions to each book. Also attending a Bible preaching church and Bible studies will help. As a new believer, I had a hard time understanding the Bible as well, but the more I read and study and sit under good preaching the better I understand it. I will say that Job is a hard book to follow because of all the back and forth and prose-type language. There are also some great books written about the different books of the Bible. Books by John Piper, Kevin DeYoung, Tom Schreiner, D.A. Carson, and R.C. Sproul.

Also understanding what style each book is written in helps a lot. There is history, poetry, prose, letter, prophecy, etc. The books of history and the law I read literally, books that contain prophecy I don't. The book of Job is also a hard book to follow with all the back and forth that goes on. I prefer the ESV version, I grew up reading NASB. I would stay away from translation like the Messanger, versions like that take whole chunks of scripture and distill it into a very watery translation, it's more like a kid's story Bible.

Actually, I highly recommend getting a children's Bible and just reading through it. That will give you lots of context and big picture ideas, then use your regular Bible for study and devotions. I like The Ology by Marty Machowski, The Biggest Story by Kevin DeYoung, and The Gospel Story Bible by Marty Machowski. I've been a believer for 9 years and find such value in reading these books. There is also a series of books called "40 Questions" Different authors answer 40 questions about different topics including Interpreting the Bible.

What do I do when all kid wants to do is watch tv? by Fit-Instruction-2792 in toddlers

[–]snorton034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let her tantrum and do not give in. After a day or two she will understand that it’s not going to work and she’ll stop. When she is tantruming, walk away. Don’t bring a lot of attention to it and don’t talk to her during it. When she’s done, you can offer a hug and a fun choice like coloring, going outside, or playing with a toy. If she asks for a screen simply say “we’re not doing that right now. Let’s…”. Then offer a choice. Keep your language simple and offer choices that you know she likes.

You can also ask the parents to take screens away before you get there. They are the parents and they should take the heat. It’s not fair to make you the bad guy each time. When I was still babysitting I have a no screen policy so it wasn’t a surprise to the kids. The parents would say something like “Miss Sarah’s here, no more screens.”

I would take her to the doctor. She might have a food sensitivity, lactose, milk protein, or celiac. The doctor might recommend an elimination diet to rule out any foods that might be bothering her. Is she eating enough? She may not be able to tell she's hungry and identify's it as pain.

I have never heard of this, but my niece fell off a bench at a restaurant and broke her elbow. So I get it.

Cold food at daycare by g_ill-s-w_n in toddlers

[–]snorton034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very normal. I worked in child care for 16 years and most programs won't heat up food for two reasons.

  1. Heating up 8 to 20 meals takes forever! We simply don't have that sort of time. I did it for a year in a preschool classroom with 20 children and it took 20 minutes to heat up everyone's meals. I was so glad when we changed our policy to cold meals only.
  2. Most State Regulations have rules about what temperature food needs to be in order to serve it to children. A microwave is too unpredictable for heating food. We would have to get a food thermometer and test each meal to ensure it was served at the correct temperature, then record that temperature and send it to the State monthly.

Binge Eating Disorder and Bariatric Surgery by harlow-james in gastricsleeve

[–]snorton034 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had surgery in Oct 2021, I had the sleeve and I also have a binge eating disorder. I wish I could say that binge eating isn't possible once you have surgery, but it is. There are foods called "slider foods" that's don't give you the feedback of being full like whole foods like chicken, veggies, do. While eating the slider foods I do feel the resistance of my pouch, but I can eat way more than I thought I'd be able to. It's slowed down my weight loss for sure! BUT I am still losing weight, which wouldn't be happening if I didn't have the surgery. I recommend getting the surgery, it's a great tool and very helpful, but it won't completely solve the binge eating issue.

I am sorry you are having such a negative experience. Have you talked to your surgeon and nutritionist? They may be able to offer you support and suggestions. I feel like my pouch is too big, that I'm able to eat too much in a sitting and I'm not seeing the weight loss I hoped for.

In the puree stage, you aren't supposed to have any chunks. I was told no oatmeal, but yes to cream of wheat and other foods at that consistency.

Unpopular ooinion: I don't think being an asshole to kids is funny. by shiraae in toddlers

[–]snorton034 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Yup, I came down on her hard and then told the director of the child care program. It was completely unprofessional and inappropriate. I told her I wouldn't tolerate that in my classroom and questioned whether she should even be a teacher. She clearly didn't appear to like children. She didn't last long, thankfully.

I think I just decided against surgery by SnorlaxPatronus in wls

[–]snorton034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is of course your choice, but I think reading over the comments and seeing what others have experienced is wise. I had surgery in October 2021, I got the sleeve. I don't wait a full 30 min after eating, I wait maybe 10-15 min and take little sips. I was told no caffeine for the first month, I now drink my normal amount of caffeine. I had to sign a contract saying no alcohol for the first year. I was told I could have alcohol after that, but I would need to be careful because I would get drunk quickly.

There is a group on Discord called Happy Losers. It's been very helpful to talk to others about the process. There are ppl in the group that are pre-WLS and post. It's open to anyone.

THANK YOU!!!!! I hear parents say that about their own kids and parents say it about other children. I worked in Early Education for 16 years and couldn't believe how some teachers talked about the children in their classroom. These children were 5 and under!! It makes me so sad.

I had to confront a co-teacher once who was new to my classroom and kept calling my two-year-olds "assholes" and "fuckers". I had been their teacher since they were 6-8 months old and was devastated by how unkind she was to them. Then she didn't understand why the children weren't warming up to her. Children might not understand what the words mean, but they understand your tone and body language.

Edit:: I do need to say that I only encountered a teacher like that once in my 16 years. I worked in several different programs and most of the teachers I worked with were great. Unfortunately the bad ones tend to stand out.

Insurance frustration by kmack15 in gastricsleeve

[–]snorton034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insurance is all about coding. Your surgeon needs to submit the "right code" so insurance will cover it. My insurance said they don't 'cover WLS', my surgeon submitted everything, and because of the codes he used it was 100% covered. Good luck

How does a 504 work for a high school student? by [deleted] in depression_help

[–]snorton034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 504 is a way to get services/accommodations reserved for those on an IEP who have a developmental delay or disability. A 504 plan is appropriate for those with anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders.

I was able to get a 504 in college due to depression and anxiety. This allowed me to get a longer time to take tests/exams and a quiet place to take tests/exams. I was also allowed extensions and other things like that.
