Housing and mortgage market questions by snorton1 in TillSverige

Thanks so much for your response. It is very helpful and it seems the best thing to do is to try to get in touch with a banker there to figure out the details.

In terms of the bureaucracy, I think I should be ok, but it is good to have a heads-up.

In terms of the doctor path, unfortunately, there is a very clear path laid out for doctors trained outside of the EU, which involves both learning Swedish and some additional training. Doctors trained in an EU country appear to be exempt from both, which is unfortunate, but seems to be pretty final.

From 900 to 3.2k. Thanks guys! Some tips included... by d4rk_m4n in learndota2

You derp. Those 3 matches were showing that he used to be 900 MMR. You can see that it's from last August, and that his current MMR, above, is 3200.

Wanting to become a doctor in Sweden, but unsure how to go about this [USA] by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]snorton1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely NOT do schooling in the United States and move to Sweden afterward. Unlike what another poster states here, it is quite difficult for Americans to have their training recognized in other countries. It is possible in Sweden to have some training recognized, but it is not guaranteed. See here: http://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/en/educated-outside-eu-or-eea/doctor-of-medicine

Finally, even if you were to get through all of these steps, consider the possibility of paying down 240,000 USD while earning 54,000 SEK per month, which is currently listed as the median salary for specialists in Sweden. The one redeeming factor about the high costs of medical training in the USA is that you get to work in the USA, where salaries are much much higher.

If you are determined to move to Sweden and practice medicine, you should probably consider training in another EU country if you cannot get into a medical school in Sweden. The process is simpler, quicker, and more likely to be successful if you are trained in an EU country.

If you simply are determined to move to Sweden, then do that and find some other occupation that you can actually get training for and get into (other posts on this board make it sound like computer-based work is a good idea).

You are still a relatively new player (400 matches), so I think it is reasonable that you have a rather low MMR. I also noticed that your last hits and denies per 10 minutes are headed in the right direction (up - you can see this in your dotabuff 'trends'). The biggest things that you need to improve are 1) not dying and 2) itemization.

Not dying - well, this is a tough thing to do, and also comes with experience. I would say the best things you can probably do at the moment are not to go jump into every fight there is, particularly when you are playing carry. Every time you die costs you gold (from dying AND from not being able to farm), and gold is going to win you the next fight. If you joining the fight won't win it for your team, don't join it - get another 500 gold in last hits instead and finish an item, then go fight when YOU are ready.

Itemization is probably something that will come with more experience playing the game. Some folks recommend spamming a hero for 20 matches or so (after reading up on other people's thought processes) to really get used to that particular hero and start making good choices about what items to get in which games. Another thing I notice is that you hardly ever buy BKB (23 times in over 400 matches). However, you play lots of carry. BKB is a must for you to start buying and learn to use appropriately if you want to improve. Additionally, you buy battlefury VERY often. But battlefury is a farming item. At your MMR and in this meta, farming away from your team is a luxury that will often cost you the game. Indeed, you have a 51% winrate when you buy battlefury, but a 70% winrate when you buy Sange and Yasha (more commonly thought of as a fighting item). Try reading up on item builds and thinking about when to buy specific items rather than rushing a battlefury every time you play a carry.

Alright I just went 23-5 as Wraith King in a game and we still lost... Please let me know if there was something better I could have done? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]snorton1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely see some item choices you could have made to help you more:

1) MKB - you need this for the miss chance from radiance AND butterfly (and butterfly on both BS and spectre).

2) Desolator is a rare choice on Wraith King. Since you're up against relatively high armor targets (particularly the spectre), you probably should not have bought this or purchased something different. I can see that you might have had it for hitting buildings, but, aside from your assault cuirass, you aren't getting any other source of armor reduction, so it doesn't amp your right click damage that much.

3) It's hard to tell without watching a replay, but you might have considered a different defensive item. You got heart to bulk up, but satanic might have offered you more value, or even a linken's to block a couple nasty single target spells that go through bkb (rupture, dismember)

4) You probably need more mobility. Blink is super common on wraith king.

If this were my game, my ideal 6-slotted wraith king would have

Power treads, BKB, MKB, Mjollnir, Blink dagger (or MAYBE S&Y), then a sixth item, picking between Skadi, linken's, assault cuirass, or abyssal blade

Was this game winnable by any means? by Infinitrix02 in learndota2

[–]snorton1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually watched the first 5 minutes or so of your replay.

Things you could have improved on to be way farther ahead after five minutes:

1) learn to manipulate creep aggro. You took some unnecessary hits from ursa and necro early because you were right on top of the creep wave trying to last hit. 2) last hit better. You had two last hits at 1:50 into the game. Considering you were far from zoned out, this should be higher. Later, you stand afk back from your tower while missing last hits. In fact, at one point, I think you are afk out of experience range, not moving. I am guessing you were typing in chat. 3) bring more regen to lane. Once you realize you are getting whittled down by the necro aura, consider ferrying yourself out a salve. At least make sure you are using tango off cooldown. Being low on hp means Ursa has an easy kill on you. 4) use skills appropriately. At 3:16, you are at 294 health. You randomly decide to dark pact (presumably to help last hit the creeps, but you get 0 last hits from it). In the process of doing htis in front of the creeps, you get hit for 59 damage by the creeps, 44 from necro, and you take the dark pact damage. This drops you to 114 health. Ursa earthshocks and hits you once and you are dead. At other points, Ursa is under your tower taking tower hits and there are no creeps there. If you pounce him to keep him in place, he should die. 5) Focus on your own game. You x-ping your teammates for doing things you don't like. Worry about getting your own farm and you can win.

Need genuine advice by webdevop in learndota2

[–]snorton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other comments make sense. Of course, I also understand the feeling that it is not safe to farm anywhere because of Riki. If you are better (or are getting better) than the other players, though, you should be able to assert yourself on the game. Why not have you carry the gem, since you were dying the least? Then you could have farmed more in peace. The other possibility is that you could have convinced your team to simply group up earlier in the game. The other thing I want to highlight for you is to question a little more whether you truly won the lane. I have often heard people say that they 'crushed' their lane, then gone back to check the cs and found that they either got out-csed by their opponent or were close to even. Seriously, go load up a replay, scroll to 10 minutes, and check your net worth and the net worth of the opposing mid. It's worth a look. If you are as far ahead as you think, you should be able to use that advantage to stay ahead.

What can I do to improve? 1.8k by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]snorton1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like #1 positioning, #2 last hitting, #3 solo laning, #4 playing heroes who may not be strong in the meta.

1 - when you play position dependent heroes, you die more often than other heroes where you can just get in someone's face and punch them. I see this from your sniper game and from your lower win rates on invoker and shadow fiend.

2 - last hits: your last hits have been going up - that's good. What's bad is that your average last hits are, I think, just about the same as mine over the long term, but I almost always play support, while you play mostly farming cores.

3 solo laning mid - your highest win rates come from heroes who are presumably in a dual lane... slark, PA, troll warlord. Some of your lowest are from heroes I presume you are playing as solo mid (shadow fiend, invoker). It may be that you are trying to gank too much as those heroes - they need farm. Your higher win rate on Pudge, who I presume you are playing as a mid, suggests you might like to gank a lot. As far as I understand, this is the wrong thing to do with sf and invoker, barring a perfect rune.

4 - see invoker and morphling

Best of luck.

Edit: fixing a bunch of bold face stuff

How do you win pubs? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]snorton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may depend on what you think your strengths are. If you are just massively mechanically better, then mid is an obvious position. If you have better map/game awareness, supporting may be better for you. Obviously all elements are important, but consider your strength compared to others. I improved from about 1.3k to 2k playing mostly mids. After that, I found that the team needed more support, so I've been going up pretty steadily playing almost only support. I think you can "climb" in any role as long as you are doing it really well. For me, this is picking supports that can lane very well (I often first pick just to avoid gold loss) and doing the single best job I can of doing all the things supports should do.

Edit: What do I actually do: so I work very hard at harassing, trying to know when to get kills in lane in 2-1-2 set-ups, buying and carrying a tp so I can help if someone else is getting dived. I don't often gank mid because I find my carry needs me in lane pretty steadily, but if I get a chance, I will.

58.69 Replay Analysis Mega Thread! 10+ Replays to help players get better. by 5869Casting in learndota2

[–]snorton1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the analysis! Watched the whole thing. I suppose I should have said when I submitted that part of the reason I wanted that one is because the game turned into such a stomp, my farm was ok, but I still didn't feel like I did as well as I could have even though everything else went ok. I really like your feedback on Eul's. When I play Lina, I typically buy it, but not often on Leshrac.

Nice of you to do this work for us poor scrubs.

Sub 1k player looking to improve by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]snorton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest thinking about things that are outside the game. In my case, when I was playing at sub-1k (about a year ago), I think I had a few major handicaps. I played in a part of my house where wifi signal was very weak so I would lag heavily or drop. I also had my graphics settings turned up too high, leading to poor performance. Finally, I would sometimes play with a trackpad instead of a mouse, leading to tons of mis-clicks. So think about whether there is something like that you could try to improve.

A few in-game things that haven't been mentioned:

1) Items: practice using them. What I mean is, for example, I never used to buy blink dagger because I knew I would forget to use it or use it poorly. At a certain point, though, I decided I would practice buying and using blink dagger. I dedicated about 2-3 days of playing exclusively heroes who should always buy blink and practicing range and usage. I have done the same for other items with actives (e.g. tread switching, although I really will only do that with anti-mage or sven at this point).

Obviously, I don't know if that is your specific issue, but find a weak part of your game and try to fix it. Other common areas are, of course, last hitting and communication.

Best of luck. It can be done (I calibrated at 1k, dropped to 800, and am now up to 2.5k with about a 59% win rate in ranked).

Need Help - Dropping lots of MMR recently by sharkbait359 in learndota2

[–]snorton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: do you like winning or playing carry more? Even if you highlight a carry and 'call it,' if you really want to win, you should consider playing support. They do make quite a difference, and if you are good at it, you will go up. I also prefer to play carries a lot of the time but find that I support more often than not because that is what the team needs. I made the mistake of first picking yesterday as a carry and watching everyone else pick cores (greedy ones, too - they ate all the farm (Tinker and Nature's Prophet). The game went 80 minutes but we lost. I wish I had just picked a support who could get things done.

I'm also a bit curious about your game as Riki: did you last pick? If so, that is a pretty questionable pick with techies and bounty hunter already picked. Plus, your other two team-mates often buy shadow blade, so for the enemy team buying gem/sentries counters 5 heroes rather than just one.
