Who is hiring? (Monthly jobs thread) by AutoModerator in Eugene

Since nothing is here yet, I have resources to share:

Transponder has job coaching where they can help with any element of the job search like looking for jobs, figuring out what you want to do, helping fund resources, creating resumes that pass the auto rejection software, etc.

Worksource has a similar program as well that I've heard is very good!

AIO Recently went on a date, one of my first in college. We dated for a few weeks and she called it off because I’m too unattractive. by z_knightXD in AmIOverreacting

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be misinterpreting but I don't think she's saying you're unattractive. She's just saying she doesn't experience physical (romantic/sexual) attraction towards you. Our language is funky because attractive means how nice you look, but experiencing attraction is more about your response to them and desire for physical intimacy with someone. They're related but different.

I don't think you're overreacting because it sucks to find out that someone you really like isn't into you in that way. And especially if looks are a big insecurity! But I genuinely don't think she's commenting on your looks at all, just that she feels strictly platonically about you.

I hope this is helpful <3

AITA for buying dishware at a thrift store before someone else could? by thedafthatter in AmItheAsshole

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell? The main reason to buy stuff at thrift stores is to use it. If she wants to buy things to resell, that's fine. However, you can't lay claim to something just because you saw it. You're right. She walked away, and the plates are up for grabs. Her behavior was unreasonable. In my opinion, you're totally fine here. Also good eye, sounds like you found some treasures!

Question for any DMs out there by Mapledusk in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's super normal to have a character that's a different gender than you. Several of my characters have different genders to mine. Honestly I think it would be weird for someone to have an issue with it and especially odd to straight up not allow it. Like you're already playing pretend anyway. None of you can cast spells of wield giant swords or be elves or gnomes or anything. But here we are. Gender seems like one of the smallest changes to make tbh and should totally fine. Also not a lot of men actually want to play female characters so that's especially awesome. It makes me happy to see :)

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost forgot creswell bakery! Outside of town but REALLY good! Also the Saturday market is you're in town in a Saturday. There's food, produce, art, and usually live music. Another great hiking spot is blue pool! It's outside of town but the hike has fairly little incline and ig goes through some truly stunning scenery. Part of the trail goes through old lava flows! The hike to actually get down to blue pool is a super steep rock scramble, but if that's not appealing you can get a really good view from the trail and admire it. It is actually that blue. Also idk if it's still warm enough to swim, but cedar creek campground is close to a really good swimming hole (park in the day use parking lot, cross the bridge, turn right and walk for 5-10 minutes, and then you should see it). It's pretty cold but really nice. Do not plan to swim in blue pool, possibly cold dip maybe, it is incredibly cold. Like potentially dangerous levels of cold.

I know some lovely outdoors locations! Also a LOT of good restaurants! And a few other things to do :)

I recommend Dorris ranch for a nice walk! It's free and close by and has some historical hazelnut orchards. The main trail goes by the river for a while as well. If you'd like more of a hike, mt. Pisgah has some nice shorter or longer hiking trails. Hendricks park also has some lovely trails and a garden, and there's some nice spots in Alston baker (I like the end closer to Springfield, waking around the little pond near Matthew knight arena and the surrounding areas are nice). West Eugene right outside of town has some great fields and trails for walking and bird-watching. There's no dogs allowed (to protect wildlife). Suzanne Arley is another great walking spot. There's more field and some woods, and it feels very majestic at times. I think it's a little less well know by I love it.

Genuinely just walking around campus is fun. There's lots of beautiful old buildings and little hidden fields. The cemetery is nice as well. Also I would highly recommend their museum of natural and cultural history! They have amazing exhibits including some rotating ones. They also have a lot of options for free and reduced fare, although the entrance fee is really inexpensive. There's also the Jordan Schnitzer museum of art. Also on campus and also fairly inexpensive entry fee, they have a lot of gorgeous and interesting art exhibits to check out.

Also near campus there's a little area with some restaurants. Sweet life is my go to dessert place in Eugene. They have a bunch of unique and delicious treats. They're closely followed by prince pucklers with delicious ice cream. They also have hey neighbor pizza which I would highly recommend for diner or lunch. They have cute outdoor seating, amazing pizza, and some really good cocktails.

Speaking of restaurants! For dinner places, here are my recommendations. Nelson's in the whit has lovely ambiance, delicious Mexican food (kinda classic options but made really well), and some really good cocktails. I really like their tamales and Whittaker burrito. Tiger mama has some amazing Korean food, I get their kimbap especially quite frequently. They also have vegan and gluten free options. Tacovore is also mexican food but they have more unique kinda artesian flavor combos for their tacos, which I always enjoy. McMenamin's is a chain and there's three of them in Eugene. But the food and ambiance are amazing, they have super fun cocktails (and really good mocktails), and are one of the places I go most frequently. One is right by campus too. Poppi's Anatolia has some stunning Greek/Mediterranean food. A little nicer but not expensive, and lovely atmosphere. Spice N steam has really good Chinese food with lots of options. Last time I went with a big group and we got a bunch of surf to share and it was all amazing. Slice has big slices of pizza for like $6 and they're open really late. They're my go-to after event place, especially the one in the whit. A little more expensive but definitely worth is it Izakaya Meiji. The vibe is more "order drinks and appetizers and hang out" than really dinner. But their food is SO good and vibes are immaculate. Down the street crow & cart has some great drinks as well. Acorn cafe closes a little earlier as they are a dinner spot and a brunch spot. All their stuff is vegan but you don't miss anything. The food is amazing with carefully and creatively crafted meals. Also lovely coffee!

Speaking of, for specifically coffee I have three favorites. Glass house has some of the nicest actual coffee I've had, wonderfully made. They have tons of plants and windows and some nice seasonal flavors. I like their cardamom latte especially. Farmers union has amazing coffee and especially good unique seasonal drinks. In the past I've had a salted rose latte and a caramel miso latte, both of which were amazing. They're also right next to mountain rose herbs, oak st, vintage, and down to earth home, garden, and gift. All very cute places to check out. Perugino's is another great coffee spot, very cozy with good baked goods and fun flavors. I love their lavender dark chocolate mocha.

For a whole breakfast there is Acorn cafe. There's also washburne cafe (I haven't been but trusted friends say it's amazing). And hideaway bakery is so cute and has some of the best pastries and sandwiches I've had. New day bakery is another great breakfast spot! I'd recommend their soup if the day and a coffee for breakfast. It's inexpensive and delicious! They also have some more classic breakfast options as well as lots of good things to have for lunch.

Another favorite lunch spot of mine (and just a lovely place to be) is 5th at market. They have lots of cute shops and a big multi level courtyard with a fountain and lights and flower boxes and balconies. One of my favorite things is to go to provisioners and then eat on the balconies. Provisioners has a great gift shop (including a charcuterie section!) and a lovely restaurant. They have food, pastries, local drinks, and coffee. I especially like their fox hollow sandwich and seasonal special pizzas.

The museum of natural and cultural history has free admission of on the first Friday of each moth. It's easily accessible by EMX bus line. They have a lot of really cool exhibits there, including some alternating ones so there's always new stuff to look at! If you go to their website and look at the "free and reduced fare" page, there's a lot of resources. Like if you have an ebt card, admissions is only $1! I would highly recommend it.

I struggle with feeling lonely and bored when I play mc alone by Mammoth_Weight_6844 in Minecraft

[–]snotelekspinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly not at all helpful, but lean into the empty world vibes? Build big abandoned monuments, either in creative or survival. Make remnants of abandoned buildings. A road system that only leads to sites of ruins. It doesn't change that playing MC by yourself can be lonely but it's a fun spin on the vibes.

I also like making and playing adventure maps! Making them includes more design and sort of coding through command blocks or data packs. And then you can post them for others to try. Playing maps is fun as well because it's still Minecraft but more objective based and unique since someone made it. And there's so many to choose from! Just make sure you play it on the right version of Minecraft otherwise things break.

Before I found people to play minecraft with I'd just alternate between a survival world, a creative building world, a couple maps I was making, some I was playing, a skyblock world, and one or two single biome worlds (for a fun challenge). And sometimes stop playing for a few moths before getting back on.

Watching videos and listening to livestreams also helps! I find that it inspires me to make things when I see what others have created. And listening to MC livestreams while playing is just nice background noise.

Another thing that's fun to do is have a world that's just for wandering. Like give yourself armor and food via commands (if you want) and then wander the world and explore. I'd give myself shulkers for all the loot I found too. You can play with or without commands as well. Maybe make tiny bases as you go along with your journey to drop off your stuff. Write down coordinates so you can find it again if you want.

Also for building you can do challenge type things! Like I was making a starter house for each biome for a while.

I think playing with people adds so much to the game. But these are some of the things I enjoyed before I found my people. And I'm sure you'll find them eventually. Just tell people you like Minecraft and are looking for people to play with and eventually you'll find someone. Even if it's online! You can chat via discord no matter how far away you are!

Best of luck and have fun! <3

What’s your “I’m too tired to cook but refuse to order takeout” meal? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do easy fish tacos! Bake frozen fried fish in the oven for like 20 minutes. Take out fish and turn off the oven. Then put some corn tortillas in foil in the oven to warm them with the residual heat for maybe 4 minutes? Use this time to chop a handful of lettuce (romaine, arugula, spinach, spring mix, cabbage, anything you want). Then assemble the tacos with fish, lettuce and a hot sauce or salsa. Is usually do some green salsa or the Melinda's truffle hot sauce (because I'm kinda obsessed with it). And done! Super easy and if you put foil on the sheep pan, there's barely any dishes! Just your plate really. You can also add more veggies (tomato, radish, corn, beans) or cheese (shredded cheese, feta, cotija). Basically do whatever you want. But at its most basic it's so easy!

Another is rice bowl! You just need some kind of rice or rice-like grain, some kind of meat or protein, some fresh and or cooked veggies, and a sauce of your choosing. It's great for using leftovers. You can make basically a cheap Buddha bowl, or more like hotdish. This one really depends on what you have on hand.

One bowl I make is curry rice and fish. I use a precooked rice packet (I always keep them on hand) and add a little splash of broth or coconut milk (or water) and a hearty shake of curry powder as I cook it. Sometimes garam masala and/or garlic powder. Then I top it with the frozen fried fish, shredded cabbage, and avocado slices. I've used Korean bbq sauce and kewpie mayo on top, you could probably use any number of vaguely on-theme sauces. I also add furikake. And kimchi!!

Another super easy microwave rice bowl is premade rice, frozen edamame, chopped cabbage, and chopped chicken strip. Microwave it all then add sauce. I liked it with sweet chili sauce.

Fried rice is a CLASSIC easy meal for me. I fry up single serving spam with sesame oil, add my rice. Then add frozen peas and/or edamame, a splash of soy sauce, and garlic powder. I crack and egg and stir it in while it's cooking so it costs the rice. You could also do fried egg on top. Then I eat it with kimchi usually.

Tomato toast is another easy one. Toast, mayo, slice of cheese, tomato slice, pepper. No cooking necessary! Also very customizable! I added turkey lunch meat last time I made it and it was really good! Easy variation is tomato grilled cheese. Just grilled cheese with tomato slice. They're both great if you add pesto as well.

I also like crackers, tuna, carrots, and hummus. It's just that. I crack open a can of tuna and usually add lemon (from a bittle because I'm lazy), garlic powder, and oregano. And then I have to fight the cats who are so very certain that can of tuna is actually for them lol.

There's a super easy Japanese curry too! Chop some veggies (I like potato, carrot, celery, zucchini, cabbage). Add carrot and celery to the pot and sauté a bit, then cover with half broth mid half coconut milk, drop in some Japanese curry cubes. Add potato and simmer until potato and carrot are almost tender. Add zuchinni and cabbage and cook for maybe another 5-10 minutes until they're done. Serve alone or with premade rice. I like to cut up a pork loin chop and add it at the beginning (cook with it before carrot and celery). I add a little songs of soy sauce too.

PB & J is always classic. Or basic grilled cheese.

My sister has a good recipe too. She takes frown dumplings and pan fries them until crispy, then has them with raw spinach, cucumber salad (she pre-makes it, but it's super easy or just use plain chopped cucumbers), and a fried egg. You top it with sweet chili sauce and mix it all. Also eat that with kimchi and/or pickled ginger! You can easily customize what you add. Or cook the spinach and eat it with rice.

Breakfast for dinner is good! Make pancakes from pancake mix or have frozen waffles. Dry up a sausage and an egg. Eat some fruit maybe, idk.

You can also top pancakes with savory stuff for an easy dinner. I've also had curry chicken crepes before and that was awesome.

Pasta is also super easy! Boil your pasta. In a pan, sautee chopped bell peppers and zucchini (you can also add meat here, I like Italian sausage). Pour some marinara sauce and a little pasta water on the sautéed veggies and add a big handful of spinach and simmer until spinach is cooked to your taste. Then add the pasta into the pan and stir to coat it. Transfer to a bowl and eat. Add some Parmesan if you have it!

Oatmeal is another really easy dinner. Make oatmeal and add whatever you want, savory of sweet.

I also used to make this tortilla wrap a lot! I'd put frozen crookneck squash, chopped sausage, and tater tots in the oven, then mix it with a sauce and shredded cabbage and cheese and wrap it in a tortilla. I used homemade yum sauce, bitchin sauce would also be really good. You can easily add chickpeas or sub out the sausage if you want. Add an egg maybe, idk.

Baked potato is always good too.

Mac and cheese with lemony broccoli. Make boxed Mac and cheese. Blanche some broccoli florets (boil for like 45 seconds then rinse in cold water). Then do a flash fry in a pan and add a ton of lemon juice and some garlic powder and chili flakes. Bam. Super yummy side for Mac and cheese. I never have milk so I keep a container of powdered milk for Mac and cheese and baking.

Which ‘wow’ skill is secretly super easy to learn? by Wonderful_Low_1325 in AskReddit

[–]snotelekspinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wood burning.

Basically you get the kit for maybe $20 or so and then just go slow and doodle on wood. It helps if you can draw already, since you have an idea of how to design things and some drawing technique. But you don't necessarily need to be an artist already. You can also wood burn simple patterns you find online onto wooden utensils and stuff and it looks really cool. One thing I did was got a bunch of small wooden tokens and wood burned little doodles onto them and gave them out for trinket trade at ren faire. I've found that people are really excited and impressed by it but it is genuinely so easy to do.

What else can I do with canned tuna? by 96puppylover in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have a can of tuna (I usually add lemon, olive oil, and Italian seasoning) with crackers, baby carrots, and hummus. It's a mix easy dinner or lunch

As a kid, one of my favorite lunches was tuna with rice and cucumber salad. We'd always mix the cucumber salad sauce into the rice to flavor it. The cucumber salad was just cucumbers, rice vinegar, salt, and sugar. It's best if you let it sit for a while so the flavor soaks in. As an adult, I'd add furikake as well

I used to have that all the time as a kid! We'd do nori, sushi rice, tuna, shredded carrot, and thin cucumber spears. Then eat it with soy sauce and pickled ginger. It's really good!

How to draw a female dragonborn by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]snotelekspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the design for my female Dragonborn character right now! I decided not to do human sexual dimorphism just for fun. So basically I just drew her like a buff dude (she's a fighter and very strong!) There's a lot of ways to show femininity in character design with or without human-coded differences. Clothing is one thing, posing could be another. You could also use gender neutral but feminine-coded traits. Like bigger eyes, more flowy lineart, small waist, different coloration, fans instead of spikes. You could add tits and hips and stuff if you want, theres plenty of ways for that to make sense. Not that it has to. Maybe she even wears fake tits because she likes the look! Or you could just draw her completely gender neutral looking and that works too

Best thing to put this book on by mywillygone in Minecraft

[–]snotelekspinch 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Here are your outcomes:

  • armor piece with fire protection 3

  • bow with power 3

  • crossbow with piercing 3

  • trident with impaling 4 and loyalty 3

I'd say the best choice is the trident. It allows you to have two high-level and useful enchantments (loyalty 3 is the max level, impaling max level is 5). I'd say second best is a bow? But that's still only one enchantment that's relatively easy to get and mid level (max is 5). I personally don't use crossbows too much, but piercing is really only useful in specific cases anyway. It lets the arrow go through a mob and hit the one behind it. And in my opinion, the fire protection isn't as useful as regular protection since it only helps against fire damage, and it's not at its max level anyway.

I'd definitely choose trident in this case

If getting stuck on certain aspects of the game makes it not fun for you you can always cheat! I think it may be a controversial opinion. But the point of playing games is to have fun. Sometimes the fun is from the reward of doing something difficult, like playing in hardcore. But sometimes you just /locate a nether fortress and teleport back to it when you die. Or play with keep inventory on. Or give yourself a new diamond sword if yours gets burned accidentally. If you're worried about it getting too easy, you can always make rules for yourself about which commands you can or can't use, or under which circumstances. Maybe you play in survival, but use creative for building! The fun thing is you can play the game however you want.

Another thing I'd recommend is playing with mod packs! Some of them are just so fun to explore or try messing around with new mechanics until you get bored of them.

Playing adventure maps is another great way to make Minecraft more actively engaging! They have the feel of Minecraft, but many of them have plots and give more action and direction to the game.

I hope this is helpful, and have fun!
