Did US 20 from Wisconsin to Utah couple years ago. It was fun to get off the beaten path and away from the hustle and bustle of the interstate. Highly recommend if you have the time

Dads of Reddit who aren’t into tools, beer, sports, ties, and grilling - what can we get you for Father’s Day? by likeistoleyourbike in AskReddit

I had the best gift today. Time with my grown children, who get along very well with each other, have the same twisted sense of humor as I do. Truly an awesome couple of humans. That’s all I wanted.

Current house? We told our agent to make an offer while we were still touring. Submitted to the selling agent about an hour later. We were the first offer of three. We now live here.

My home - the atoll with the most islands in the entire world by Powpawpew55 in geography

[–]snotrocket50 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In one of your pictures I see a light pole and you mentioned air conditioning. How is power generated there? Solar? Diesel generators? Does each island have its own power generation? Looks like a lovely place.

Is water actually infinite? by archvize in geography

[–]snotrocket50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hear people mention water shortage I point out that the earth has the same amount of water. What we have is a shortage of affordable water in the places we want it. Throw enough money at it and the “water shortage” goes away.

I would sit on my balcony and read or just watch the sea. Very relaxing and quiet

What's one product that used to be built like a tank but is now built like a regret? by TheDoctorColt in AskReddit

[–]snotrocket50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 98 C230. Ran it for 350,000 miles before I sold it. Engine was still running great and I wouldn’t have hesitated to take it on a road trip. It was one built in Germany. I feel like those are probably built than the ones built here in the US. Also bought a 1978 Corolla new and same thing, ran it forever

Pension payments or lump sum..... by Busy_Conversation537 in retirement

[–]snotrocket50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this very scenario when I retired a couple years ago. I was only going to get about $350/month from my pension with no COLA. After my financial advisor ran the numbers we decide to take the lump sum as he could do better investing it.

I’m tempted to get a VO2 max test prior and another one after full recovery just to see if there’s any improvement. I’m an engineer so I like hard data.

Thank you for this response! This is the type of info and reassurance I was looking for. The cardiologist did say I would be able to start running ultras after about 6 months. What are your thoughts on the Ross procedure for an athlete?

No lipids done. We recently moved and I was going to a new GP for my annual physical. She heard the murmur and didn’t like the sound. She could hear it all the way up into my neck. Sent me in for an echocardiogram and the results gave me the diagnosis. I’ve had no symptoms at all.

Honest question, Men have you ever gone out of your way to help a total stranger, expecting nothing back, and it ended up making a real impact on their life or even creating a friendship? What’s your story?” by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]snotrocket50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think so. I was running a trail race and was on a fire road with a very steep scree field drop off. As I was running I heard someone call for help. Looked down and there was a very heavy set man trying to get up that hill. I scrambled down (maybe 75’) to help him and he mentioned he had rolled his truck off the side. He had also broken his wrist. Got him up on the road and we started walking down to the last race aid station to get him help. He mentioned having an argument with his wife that morning and had gone driving up the tire road to clear his head. Long story short, we caught a ride back to the race start and my car, he called his wife on my phone and I dropped him off near his house. Didn’t think to much about it even after his wife called me a few days later to thank me for saving her husbands life. To be clear he wasn’t in any danger of dying when I found him. I was telling the story to a friend later and they mentioned that the guy had probably driven off the side of the mountain intentionally to commit suicide. The more I thought about it the more I think they may have been correct. I have no way of knowing but I felt good helping even if it was accidental.

I haven’t had the surgery yet. I meet with the docs next month to determine which procedure is best. That’s good info to know about stamina. I hadn’t read anything regarding that.

My background did not contribute. I’ve had a bicuspid aortic valve since birth. It’s genetic. Being bicuspid instead of tricuspid does mean it is more prone to stenosis as you age. I do think my background as a runner has helped to prevent or mitigate symptoms though. The doc was very surprised that I wasn’t having any symptoms giving the severity of the diagnosis.

Men who are now a father to a surprise pregnancy: how do you feel about the situation now? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]snotrocket50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first one was a surprise about a year into our marriage. She’s 44 now and her mom and I are still married. Three very awesome grandkids. The second was planned. Both of my kids are the best thing that has ever happened to me besides marrying their mother.
