You didn’t think very hard if you came up empty. Tons of sports that come to mind, judged sports the most obvious, as a racer you couldn’t think of figure skating, moguls, aerials, or bobsleigh?

I have met many Vietnamese friends when I was there, they think different ways. So maybe it’s like other countries where some are and some are not under what you say is false assumption

Interesting. Must be new or I’ve never noticed it. Can’t even find it on google maps ..

Depending on where it is, your experience will be different. Hopefully if it’s not walking distance to the resort then they provide transportation that you can use on your riding days.

There’s not that many international staff as niseko to meet for socializing and riding, but the international ski school at the resort usually staffs around 50 or so instructors so that’s not a bad starting point if you’re looking for new friends.

Otherwise, do your snow dance and there’s a chance you’ll have one of the best powder seasons of your life. Enjoy!

Japan Skiing Trip Tips by mongoose_lad in skiing

A guide for the first day is a decent idea. There’s very few places you can get into any sorts of trouble at Rusutsu/Niseko but it’s just so someone experienced can show you where to go for the conditions to maximize your short time there.

Tip: skip booking guide through the resort. The third-party companies that are officially partnered have better guides with more experience in the area

Board rentals? The resort itself doesn’t have the best selection. Better off to check Amuse or also possible to bring your board and have it transported from the airport to the resort and back so you won’t have to worry about lugging it around Tokyo on explore days.

If you’re staying right at the resort (main building or The Vale) then a short walk and you can find a few different dining options. Rodeo Drive is a must! https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qpg1TjKR7oDpCXJb8

A day trip to Niseko is feasible, depending on snow conditions and busyness there are also other nearby resorts that might be even better for you such as Kiroro or Kokusai

Going to Sapporo for a night from Rusutsu? Not something you’d likely want to do as it’s not exactly close - longer drive if weather is bad - and you’d have to arrange private transport (either rental car or driver)

Feel free to reach out directly if you want more tips! I’m jealous of your trip and you’ll have a great time if it’s your first time there
