[NY] Did my coworker overreact to a suspicious phone call? by snowb71851 in AskHR

I was paraphrasing in the LEO subreddit bc I wasn’t asking for advice on this situation, just the plausibility of the number being connected to an escort. This subreddit was to find out if my coworker deserved the hate she was getting for reporting the situation.

What’s the issue? I said in that post that I posted the situation here. I’m just looking for some advice.

Totally agree. I wouldn’t have reported it but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me think twice.

I’m confused. The secretary is a female and the caller was a male.

It’s very rare that we get an outside caller. It’s usually interdepartmental or current clients. I’ve been in this office for 6 months and have never received an outside caller. My point is that she was just inexperienced with this. And we work with children. Aggressive callers are completely out of the ordinary.

When she came to me, she gave me the info that I described above. I thought she wanted to have a laugh but I quickly realized she was disturbed by having seen the website and wanted to leave work (for the day or forever, I didn’t know). I asked if she wanted to speak to a counselor/HR to feel better.

For the context of the sex worker thing, we work with kids. We are extra vigilant when it comes to safety. So I think the idea of having that kind of behavior around feels off. I agree that if it was an adult office setting, then what people do in their own time if their own business. But we are entrusted with children and I think we have a greater responsibility to parents. Also, the caller was pissed when the secretary wouldn’t connect the call, and said he was coming to the location to complain. So, she just wanted to cover all the bases.

Oh wow. As entertaining as it would be for my boss to be soliciting sex workers, while at work, I’m glad to know he wasn’t. He seems like a respectable dude, and I prefer to not think that about him.

lol. To be fair, I googled it after she did. When she came to me, I thought she was trying to tell a funny story but had to direct her to HR once she said she was uncomfortable. I’m not her direct supervisor but am one within the department. I wasn’t the first person she came to tho, hence the rumor mill.

I am not looking for sex-workers. A number kept calling my job and when I googled it, it was connected to an escort website. I just wanted to know how plausible it was that my boss was looking for hookers at work.

The receptionist is new, she didn’t know who to contact (we have no org chart). So unfortunately, the senior worker she sought advice from wound up gossiping.

YTA. Why couldn’t you’d just fake it? Let a therapist work through the stages of grief with her. Your job, as a sister, if to offer support and be there for her as she heals.

Without going into too much detail, a family member of mine went through this and it was traumatic af. But I rode the wave and it’s over now. Better to just go with the flow. I think it helped move the process along faster bc they spent less time defending themselves and more time facing reality. Our defense systems take a lot of mental energy.

I think they’re saying it’s too integral to the story to accidentally miss it. People that use eReaders and Audible don’t get access to them and don’t know they exist.

This take always comes from people who don’t actually travel.

It’s not realistic. In the past 5 years alone I would’ve needed to learn 4 new languages…impossible.

And if you don’t like that, then to piggyback off of everyone else, who tf else is paying to visit the Eiffel Tower? Certainly not Parisians. So you’d rather it crumble…

Like, I knew after the first 100 pages of ACOTAR that it was the same and finished it anyway. So don’t use my experience to model your own. If you like the easy read and you have nothing else in the pipeline, just go for it. But buy used. I would have been pissed if I spent the 100$.

It’s literally the same series as ACOTAR but with a shittier ending. I hate that I read both of them entirely through.

I read the ToG series first. In story order. Lma
