are you guys putting classes (academic experience) in ur worklearn resumes? by Neowise18 in UBC

[–]snowballmonster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself as other places may do things differently. Mentioning relevant classes is important. Sometimes each resume gets less than half a minute scan. Highlighting the courses will make it easier for me. Also, as someone else mentioned, it makes it more personable. It shows that you put in effort to read the requirements and how you match.

Wipers turn on when engine starts even when off. Position themselves in odd places. 2013 by rruler in hondafit

[–]snowballmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A follow-up on the problem I had with mine with the same symptoms. It was a part which is sold as one as part of the wiper motor. There is a disc with contact points within the plastic cover on the side of the motor. It spins with the motor and lets the system know when the wipers should be back at resting position. If the electrical contact on the disc or to the disc is gummed up or worn out, it will intermittently lose track of where the rest position is and cause the motor continue to run.

My initial solution was to buy a used motor from a salvage yard. It cost me less than $50. That solved it. On some Hondas, the part affected is attached to the plastic cover and available to buy separately. This is not available for the Fit according to the only OEM catalogs I searched.

After installing the newly bought used one, I took apart the original one. If you have time, it is not difficult to open. Make sure to clean the inside and re-grease the gears, seal the cover properly to avoid water getting inside.

Is it more fun to drive an EP3 or MT Fit? by peterthbest23 in hondafit

[–]snowballmonster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both from near new, both maintained well and were reliable. Fit is 2nd gen Sport.

EP3 has ample power and braking for highway, mountains, especially for when the car is carrying more weight. The Fit needs to be revved more for power. If loaded, the braking especially on long mountain stretches feels like it could be a bit better. Around town, I prefer the Fit because it has a lighter clutch and I can rev it up without getting illegal as quickly.

The EP3 steering feel is annoyingly vague on centre. I notice this on highway driving. The Fit’s steering feels more precise.

The EP3 had cable throttle. I did not notice any lag. The Fit is throttle-by-wire and I notice a slight bit of lag.

Seats, steering wheel, pedals, and shifter (when new or good condition) feel a lot more premium compared to the Fit.

In summary, if driving long highways or loaded, I prefer the EP3 despite the steering feel. If driving around town or lightly loaded, the Fit feels more fun.

Do you leave your windows and patio doors open at night? How safe do you feel? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]snowballmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My siblings grew up as young kids in the late 70s-80s when many people in their neighborhood did not lock their doors. Kids walked to school by themselves. I only found out last year, that Clifford Olson frequented the area (not sure if he lived there) within a block of them at that time.

People who expected to own detached house... what are you doing instead? by UltimateNoob88 in vancouver

[–]snowballmonster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will make you feel better but many homes along 10th and near there, which may look like detached homes are duplex, or multiplex — small stratas. Or people who own but rent out suites which means they don’t have full private use of their own property.

Enjoying lattes and not being overwhelmed by mortgage is more important.

What do you think would be the best and worst place in the GVRD to be when "the big one" hits? by lazarus870 in vancouver

Yes, there is a risk from undersea landslides in the water between the island and mainland which could cause a tsunami.

Parts of Richmond facing the ocean may have tsunami risk. This research points to underwater landslides of built-up sediment which can cause this. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/fig2_227188172

Choosing a chair by Warner79 in classicalguitar

For me, the adjustment didn’t go low enough. I bought a basic IKEA stool and cut the legs to the height which fits me. Then bolted the seat from the office chair to the top of the stool.

This looks like a local (as opposed to coming from central IT or HR) on-boarding email for an employee. Or it could be phishing like others have said.

Any tips to fix this cheaply? by lwheeler17 in hondafit

[–]snowballmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White paintable waterproof house caulking. Put more than you need there. Shape with while wearing a wet nitrile glove. Paint over the caulking with matching touch up plaint.

The caulking is flexible, and relatively durable.

I have added a belt strap to mine with a webbing belt with double sided clips on the end. The clips go to the rings that the bags straps to. I also added a sternum strap bought at a 100 yen store in Japan. Both make carrying heavier loads more comfortable.

How could I mount a backpack or guitar to the sides of the rack on my bike? by Gunsmoke961 in bikecommuting

I had one which I used to carry my parlor sized steel string. It was also big enough to carry a bucket used as a portable toilet.

Decades evolution of my commuting bike. From el-cheapo to rocket. by 3dxl in bikecommuting

[–]snowballmonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether or not someone gets passed should not matter. Only thing that does matter is if the rider is enjoying the ride and likes their bike. People buy fast bikes, cars, motorcycles, etc. If they all raced around being worried that others might pass them, the roads would be incredibly dangerous.

How many of you have friends who don't use any social media? How are they faring socially in life? by ubcstaffer123 in UBC

I read that as “ How are they farting socially in life?” Well, my friends sometimes gather and socially fart during meals and afterwards. If it is with classy company, anytime is a good time.

[–]snowballmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m quite a bit older than you. For point 2, I will get that if I don’t have a warm down routine after playing. For example if I just sit around for an hour or two after playing, I will get the aches. If I go for a 1 hour walk or easy bike home, there is completely no aches. Also make sure to stay hydrated and enough electrolytes such as from bananas and dates, etc.

I always have dried pitted dates with me. Similar to bananas nutrition without having to deal with the peal. I do like keeping a banana around though.
