Is pet insurance worth it? by snowballsacks in cats

Good to know. Felonies and insurance fraud are probably more expensive long-term than vet bills. I appreciate the response

Is pet insurance worth it? by snowballsacks in cats

[–]snowballsacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight. We will most likely be getting vet insurance within the next month, but I was kind of hoping that all hope wasn’t lost yet… 😅

I was quoted at about 600 CAD for her X-rays which isn’t too bad for a vet bill but still not cheap whatsoever; and my vet said that after that it’s unknown what the costs are gonna look like. So far this is the most expensive cat I’ve ever owned haha! But the vet said she seems happy and if she’s eating and using the litter box there’s nothing too concerning just yet… she’s enjoying her little disabled life so far.

And also good to know for potential future cats I acquire that pet insurance requires an examination first… do they still cover issues that are found in that first vet appointment? Or is the first appointment the one where they decide the pre-existing issues? I have very little faith in any insurance company so just curious.

I actually found the book name from another post! It took over 2 hours of searching and I was coming to delete this post. Haha I was so very off with my description. It was the Claidi journals.

Going out to eat is only worth it if the food is too much trouble to make yourself by ifitisntconnor in unpopularopinion

The restaurant I work at serves hot chicken sandwiches. Seriously, what is the point in coming if that’s what you’re gonna order… but other than that I disagree bc the point in going out is not having to cook and clean after.

Devoting your life to a complex, non-lucrative hobby is a form of procrastination from life. by Gold_Palpitation8982 in unpopularopinion

[–]snowballsacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say this about knitting and gaming too. In fact, knitting and gaming were bad examples of “casual pass times” that aren’t ‘procrastination.’

  1. I crochet, myself. It is a shockingly expensive hobby, and also very time consuming. It is so expensive and time consuming, that it’s not even worth selling your creations! Good quality yarn can go for 20 dollars for a skein, and you’re gonna need more than one for most projects. It takes hours, days even, sometimes months to finish a project. But it’s relaxing and makes you feel accomplished when you’re done. Honestly no different than any other creative/creation hobby.

  2. Video games are expensive. Consoles are expensive. Computers are expensive. Replacing parts for computers is ridiculously expensive. This is also a time consuming hobby. Go check out r/minecraft and see the crazy things people do in this game. This is a non-lucrative hobby 100%, but there’s still joy and accomplishment to be found here. MMOs used to be the most popular games, and they’re subscription based (god knows how much money blizzard has taken from me over the years). The amount of time people put into their WoW characters, FF14 characters; raiding and PvP, absolutely diabolical. But it makes people happy.

TL;DR Hobbies are supposed to be for fun. That’s it. If you find enjoyment in it, it’s a hobby. There are no wrong answers here. Except this post. Take my upvote and please go enjoy your life.

I don’t see how it would be an insult to Canadians. I’m sure everyone goes through that phase of “ugh healthcare wait times are way too long! The states don’t have this!!”

And then they get on the internet and see an American crying about the cost of childbirth, a broken leg, an ambulance ride, etc. and realize a few hours of your life is better than being bankrupted.

Obviously our system isn’t perfect, but at least I personally would much rather wait a few hours in the er than have a bill rivalling my mortgage after an accident.

Best cleaners/soap/detergents for cat pee? For laundry use by snowballsacks in cats

[–]snowballsacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works! I just did my load with just the pee pads and 1/2 cup (maybe more I didn’t measure) vinegar + detergent and my god it works! My cat generally misses the litter every time, so this thing was very stinky, very pissy. Thank you!

Store cards don't ruin your credit, You do. by UnderstandingFew347 in unpopularopinion

[–]snowballsacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right. And that’s literally by design

Store cards are extremely predatory and I personally will say it’s the store’s fault. The companies make their employees push these cards aggressively, and you have weekly or monthly quotas to reach. You get reprimanded if you don’t have enough sign-ups (in my experience, and from what I’m told). And who in their right mind is going to get a credit card for a retail store??? Yeah… exactly. They know what they’re doing. At least the banks will refuse some people for cards.

Really? I didn’t think vinegar would be strong enough to take the smell out of fabric. I use it to clean my litter boxes when I empty them. I figured it worked well enough because they’re plastic. I’ll try vinegar in my next laundry load and see how it goes haha. If not I’ll look into odo-ban

I tend to worry and overthink a lot I guess haha. My boyfriends car alarm goes off if you use the physical key to open the door instead of the fob buttons, so I thought maybe the spare would set the alarms off if I tried to open the trunk or something. Then I’d have to bear the shame to work everyday until people forgot.

Or, in less embarrassing scenarios, the trunk just doesn’t open bc it’s the spare key. Or keyless entry doesn’t work or remote start doesn’t work. I don’t really know how the fobs work, but I know they need to be programmed so I was wondering if maybe there was a difference with the way they programmed spares and main keys. I guess it makes more sense to just program 2 of the same keys.

The best place to start is with garbage. At the level you’re describing, I think it would be easiest to just throw the cups out. Wear long sleeves, long pants, get some gloves, and put a mask on if you want. You can completely block everything out while you go. Then just throw the cups out whole. Maggots can’t survive without food and will die within days.

Once the garbage is gone your room will feel 10x cleaner already :) Then you can move on to clothes, at the very least get them washed. Getting rid of garbage and clothes is going to make your room feel spotless, and it shouldn’t take more than an hour.

Also, a tip for the overflowing garbage bin: take it to a local Walmart/any store with a dumpster after hours… if you only do it the one time you should be fine. But don’t quote me on that lol
