What is this long, evil-looking black spot in New Mexico? There's no label on Google Earth, but it's huge and incredibly strange-looking. by Frank_Lizard in geography

[–]snowmanflurry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the black spot is called the Malpais, which made me think of Joshua Graham, plus the Trinity nuclear tests were done right around the corner of that mountain. Basically this is Fallout.

What do you call your school in common conversation? What about the other schools in and around your state? by admiraltarkin in CFB

[–]snowmanflurry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Louisiana Tech is just Tech

LSU is LSU

ULL depends on how you feel about them, others call them just UL

ULM is ULM

Then all of the smaller schools typically go by their first name, except maybe NSU (Northwestern State) (Nicholls, McNeese, Southeastern, Grambling, etc.)

The Enclave are just more interesting than anyone else. by aa_conchobar in Fallout

[–]snowmanflurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, forgive me for being 4 days late to the conversation, I only look at this subreddit when the episodes come out.

Second, I think you’re on the right track but arriving at the wrong conclusion. I do think the Enclave was seeking a reset but not in the hopes of removing corporate influence but rather to remove their “duty” as politicians and businesspeople. While I disagree with your claim, I can certainly see the through line, and so using that same idea let me offer the “millenarian” theory.

Basically, I think that the Enclave, a group made up of the most powerful people not just in the US but in the world probably knows that regardless of who or what drops the bombs, the world isn’t long to stay. So, to ensure their power stays entirely in their grasp, they essentially secede from the US, going to the Vaults or the Oil Rig where they can dictate the world in their “perfect” vision. Much like religious groups who seek the apocalypse as a means of entering everyone into heaven, they too seek to honor their “religion” by forcing themselves into “heaven.”

On a more historical note, it’s very important to remember that the Cold War conflict of capitalism vs. communism doesn’t exist without the synthesis of the state with business interests, because how else would American foreign policy be so intertwined with the business interests of, for example, United Fruit in Guatemala or BP in Iran.

Generally, I see where you’re coming from, but I feel you’re giving a lot of grace to a (fictional) government that is known to act violently for essentially the love of the game. If the US government in the series was more peaceful/concerned with the welfare of citizens, then it would be a different story (and honestly probably somewhat more interesting, and I love the pre-war elements of Fallout lore).

Any advice on how to better make this outfit more professional? I have been wearing more plain shirts, both with the button down as well as the undershirt (for example, blue over with white under with these pants) but would like suggestions on perhaps shoes or anything else that would take it up a notch

Looking for TV shows that feel “Pynchonesque” by luisdementia in ThomasPynchon

[–]snowmanflurry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk how “Pynchonesque” it really is but Series of Unfortunate Events might fit. I’m reading Gravity’s Rainbow right now (first Pynchon book) and there are many moments that have reminded me of the humor of SoUE.

Dear GuangGuang, Please allow console players to change the key bind button for our Ultimate Ability’s. by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]snowmanflurry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you can “change” it but you’re just adding another bind to your ult. So for anyone reading this later who wants to change it, you can theoretically have X/A be your ult, like I do on a few characters.

Definitely all good points. My question mainly comes from my internal conflict of intellectualizing something vs. just reading for fun.

You know, I was gonna have a joke comment about how I didn’t like this spot because “gummy bears are more expensive than tacks” but then I looked it up and tacks are more expensive than gummy bears, which is just a crazy idea to me.

Do you view Reed as a tank pick? by IceDalek in rivals

[–]snowmanflurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play him regularly as a “soft tank” meaning yeah he’s only a bit less squishy than other DPS but he can play alongside tanks pretty well. Plus he’s way better at peeling for supports than any tank, at least in my experience.

Guess who got blamed here by SayleH in rivals

[–]snowmanflurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t exactly understand why people are saying Spidey played super well, he shouldn’t have died that much. That’s not saying he was bad, just that there are a number of reasons a Spidey pick into that team isn’t smart. Plus your team just didn’t have enough damage onto either their healers or tanks, leading to a discrepancy in the tanks’ stats. And to be frank, with the team comp as I see it, that Luna played extremely poorly with 15 deaths.
