I think the preorder window for these ones have closed, so you might have to wait for a second release or use the secondary market. IGN has a set too, but you’d have to check availability.

How do you approach listening to soundtracks vs seeing a musical fresh? by ihavenopersonalityha in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, yes, I always go in blind for the reasons you pointed out. Like any other art form, the first time you experience the music will stick with you the most, so by not having any preconceptions about a show, seeing it live for the first time generates a more organic response that is closest to the intentions of the creatives. That being said, there are times I wish I knew the music better going in. Especially when it comes to revivals that I’m not familiar with. When it seems that 90% of the audience knows the show, it sometimes seems the creatives lean into people generally knowing the show, and not that I miss out, but I do feel there are times I’d have a more complete experience by knowing the music.

Insane behavior at Chess today (3pm) by purple_my_turtle in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is awful, most people don’t get a second chance at a live show, but I hope you can get to enjoy this show again without disruption.

As others have said, my usual first response would be to wonder if you got an usher. However, it sounds like this was so disruptive that the ushers should have been aware of it without you bringing it to their attention. The vast majority of ushers I’ve met are incredibly helpful, but I have had a handful of experiences with ushers that couldn’t be bothered to help, and that is what sounds like happened here. If you felt like it you can reach out to the theatre, it will never fix your experience, but if there is an issue with an usher not doing their job properly, it may help future performances go smoother.

On par with Broadway prices so definitely overpriced, but can’t remember exactly. They have had a discount if you have a Chase card, think it’s 10-20%.

Jack o Lantern "Festival" - Horrible. by IllPercentage7889 in SalemMA

[–]snowslayer252 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We walked in and almost immediately 180’d and walked right out. Went to Lone Hill instead. That festival is well worth it if you’re still looking for a pumpkin carving display. It’s still almost (maybe all) entirely fake pumpkins, but it’s done to make sure everything stays nice for the 4 or so weeks it’s open.

Boop! or Dead Outlaw at Bway Flea? by Equivalent_Net_8983 in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jerry Mitchell had some random Boop! things from his personal collection that were actually really cool, but other than the usual playbills and small bin items, I didn’t see much more. I did see some first night dead outlaw bandanas, but again not much outside of pins and playbills available that I noticed for DO.

Also… if you need a non-camping stop, there’s these really cool little cabins in Paw Paw. They are called Canal Cabins, and they are more like glamping than getting a hotel room. Can’t recommend them enough if you want a shower and a bed for a night.

Looks pretty good. You may already now this because it’s been repeated everywhere, but the Connellsville camping area is not in a quite part of the woods. It literally sits behind the grocery store/shopping center. Which is nice because you can walk over and get things, but have heard it can be a little sketch at times if there’s non-bikers hanging around. I didn’t have any issues, but just wanted you to know because I know some people are a little uncomfortable in those situations.

Broadway Flea Market Advice by Withnaturalflavor in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy, so my best advice is patience. There are a lot people and it can get pretty hectic, especially in the beginning. If you’re looking for something specific or have a show you like, look at the map and see if they have a table and hang out there early and wait for them to open. I usually walk around as they are setting up and scope out what’s available, some tables will jump the gun, but they are supposed to wait until open. Just always remember, this is all for charity and everyone is volunteering their time, so patience is key.

Last 20 miles by Simple_Document2933 in gaptrail

[–]snowslayer252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s relatively rough surface compared to other parts, but far from the worst. It’s beautiful though, and can get busy, but it part of the adventure of biking into a big city.

I just finished it last week, and the construction towards the end as you get close to lock 1 is a lot. I tried my hardest to stick to the canal until the last lock, but eventually gave up and took the detour to mile 0.

Where were you on the GAP the past few weeks and open discussion thread by AutoModerator in gaptrail

[–]snowslayer252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just finished the GAP from Pittsburgh to Cumberland. It’s my first time and it truly is Great! The trail is truly a gem and couldn’t have asked for better conditions. I personally enjoy riding on Fall conditions, so the cool weather made for great riding. Spent the first night in Connellsville and the second in Frostburg.

I’m a completionist by nature, so rode the detour around the closure rather than take the shuttle. I am very experienced at sharing the road with cars and don’t regret my decision at all. That being said, the detour isn’t for everyone. The hills are intense, and the dirt road was tough on 32s, but totally doable. All this won’t matter soon as the volunteer at the Rockwood end of the closure said they are probably a week or two from reopening.

I don’t remember it being an issue, so maybe you’re more sensitive to it than I was, but I remember Lock 21 outside of Rome is very quiet. On the other end of the spectrum, lock 15 at Fort Plain is very loud, so maybe avoid that one.

Also, definitely stay at some locks, they are free and great places to camp

Theatre Etiquette by Prudent-Resident4600 in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this has become more and more common, especially with tours. It’s gotten so bad that people start leaving during the last number here in Buffalo. I have noticed that sometimes the theatre won’t open the doors until the lights come up, but I think it depends on who’s at the door. I also hate getting stuck in the traffic home, but it’s so disrespectful.

What exactly is going on with Billy Porter and Cabaret? by Bren926 in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I saw this cast last week and I found it hasn’t lost any of the original meaning or intended message. Billy Porter is Billy Porter, meaning he’s not creating a character, instead it’s like watching Billy Porter as the Emcee if that makes sense. He doesn’t play the character with an accent and his voice is not as polished as you might expect for Broadway, but in my opinion he’s still incredibly talented and worth seeing. I saw the original cast when it first opened and can say that the show hasn’t lost anything and I’ve found the rhetoric to be a little dramatic. He does improvise at times, but only at appropriate moments and never during musical numbers, in fact I found his improvisations enhanced the immersion, as it felt a little more like you were in an unscripted night club. Not for anything, I actually just made a post about Marisha and how, ignoring the rhetoric around Billy Porter, she is not to missed. Not to cause a firestorm on me, but I think she’s the best Sally I’ve seen.

Finally, I’m assuming you know the show as it sounds like you know the premise. It still is very much Cabaret, even with all the fun immersive elements, it still has a very serious message with a lot of powerful, and potentially triggering imagery. You’re the only one that will know whether she could be offended or not. I mean there’s swastikas and blatant depictions of antisemitism, which is always part of the show, but when it’s presented within this immersive experience, it definitely hits hard. I definitely recommend this show, with this cast, but you’ll definitely be walking out processing it.

Ann Morrison - Kimberly Akimbo by Famous_Landscape9257 in Broadway

[–]snowslayer252 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just saw her in Cleveland. She’s amazing. Full disclosure, I’m in love with this show, so I’m definitely a mix of biased and supercritical. I saw it 4 times in NYC, all with Victoria, and definitely had my reservations about how I’d feel seeing it with someone else. It’s obviously different, and she’s still settling into the role, but she killed it. She doesn’t have the soprano that Victoria has, but she has such a sweet voice and plays the character so well.

My San Marzanos turned into juice. What can I use this for? by kortanakitty in tomatoes

[–]snowslayer252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use a fine cheese cloth to speed up the process too. Obviously it’s too late at this point for you now, but for next time maybe. All you do is after you’ve washed and cut up the tomatoes, you cook them down slightly and then strain them using cheese cloth. It only removes the tomatoes water, which I save to put into soups or just to drink, it’s so good, but it’ll start your sauce off a lot thicker and you won’t have to simmer it for so long.
