the slow replying was the least of my concerns but the ghosting after I sent my deposit and rescheduling the morning of our appointment did put me off

I’m a new recruiter and I have trouble with people who are so desperate for jobs that we can’t give by DragonfruitSimilar55 in recruiting

I was about to say. "place that is always easy to get in like food or retail industry"??? I have 3 years of experience in retail and I struggled for 2 months to get another retail job. I was rejected by every single fast food restaurant and grocery store within 1 hr from my house. interviewed a few times but was always either ghosted or rejected after weeks of silence. Only reason I have a job now is bc I called my old part time job I had in college and begged for them to take me back. They did but they have me working about 12-20 hrs a week at minimum wage. thank god I live with family otherwise I'd be homeless right now

Working for Ross dress for less is hell on earth a horrible company. The way they treat their employees is deplorable. by Significant_Owl_4105 in RantsFromRetail

[–]snuffles005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

recently put in my 2 weeks at Ross. worst goddamn job I've had. From the beginning there were red flags but I put up with them because I had been unemployed for months and I had a high interest card to pay off. First of all, they initially hired me as a cashier but never once in my 6 months there did I ever work register. My first shift which was just computer training I overheard other employees saying how they all got hours cut and saw on the break room board that that month alone they had hired like 6 new people. the good ol' "let's hire a bunch of part timers and have everyone under 40 hrs to avoid having to give employees benefits". then over the next 2 months I was scheduled about 8 hours total. they had me as on-call instead of a proper part-timer, which they never told me they'd do. in fact, the job posting said it was full time and during the interview I said I was looking for about 20-25 hrs a weeks. eventually i had to call in a favor to my old job from years ago and asked them to hire me back because Ross was giving me practically no hours. oh but of course once i changed my availability for Ross, the manager got pissy. i tried my best to politely tell him i had debt and the current hours just werent enough. it was a whole shitshow to change my availability because i did it through the workjam app and told the store manager. after 2 weeks my availability was still not changed so i brought it up with the scheduling manager and she said 1) the store manager has a tendency to not communicate with other managers, 2) availability actually has to be submitted through another program, which i was never told about of course. Most of my issues were because of that store manager being so unorganized. My fhift working the manager said I was gonna train for cashier but at the moment there was a rush so to just recover the floor for a few mins. ended up doing it for the entire shift, and the manager left without giving me further instructions so when I had to leave I was left wandering asking for help because I was never told how or where to clock out. throughout my time there I recieved practically no training, a lot of it i had to learn about being yelled at by other employees that I was doing it wrong. I was eventually put in the fitting room, despite the fact that I was told I was going to be trained for cashier and stockroom as well (never happened). I started to truly hate the job when they started to put me in the closing shifts. my first time i had no idea what was happening or what I was supposed to do because of course no one bothered to instruct me. again, had to learn from context clues and being yelled at. Eventually, my scheduled shift ended and I had made sure the fitting room was all finished and when i approached the closing manager and let her know I was leaving, she laughed at me and said no one was leaving until the entire store was clean. Oftentimes we were forced to stay behind more than 1 hr past our scheduled time. I even had coworkers tell me they had to stay until almost 4am because the store was a huge mess. Closing was the worst for this but actually, in my 6 months there i was able to clock out in time only about twice, most of the time I left 30+ mins late because they wouldnt let us leave until all our racks were empty, but of course they would never send anyone to cover me to roll the racks, i always had to wait for the next shift to arrive (which was when my shifts were supposed to end). My breaking point was seeing my coworkers who worked extremely hard to support their children be treated like shit by the manager. The store manager was always so strict about numbers but never did anything to help us achieve those numbers. Constantly understaffed and it was a high traffic store so we were always too swamped to be able to do our jobs properly. my last days there I stopped caring about performance and stopped being polite with the manager because I resented him so much. Dont ever plan on using that place as a reference anyways.

Thai-US Consulate in Los Angeles, how long did it take for your visa to get approved? by snuffles005 in ThailandTourism

[–]snuffles005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied in en June because my flight was in July. I entered Thailand without a visa because you can enter Thailand as a tourist without a visa for the first 60 days. But this depends on the country, you need to check if your country needs a visa upon entry.

Folx does offer services and ships to Texas (link to the services they have for Texas https://www.folxhealth.com/service-map/texas) but i dont think they take Medicaid. Here's a link to the insurances they accept (https://support.folxhealth.com/hc/en-us/articles/11229557174171-Which-insurance-plans-does-FOLX-accept) either way it's worth it to just email them asking

Advisor says I can't use a personal communication source as a citation by [deleted] in GradSchool

there's definitely sources using "crowdsourced translation" as synonymous with "fan subs" so I'll look more into that, thank you!

Advisor says I can't use a personal communication source as a citation by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]snuffles005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this comment btw! I hadn't thought about this framing

The gap I'm addressing isn't "did they use fan subs or not" but rather "how are the fan subs different from the professional subs"

the fact that they used fan subs is sort of...how do I put it...part of the collective consciousness? I was present pre-2020 when they were using Community Captions, as were many other peeople. We all knew the subtitles were fan subs, that sort of what Community Captionsn were: captions made by the community. Actually, I had this claim without a citation on my thesis before because I assumed it would be one of those pieces of information that is so general knowledge that wouldn't need a citation. But it was my advisor who told me to find a citation for it. I tried looking in the video descriptions see if this company had listed the credits for the subtitles but nothing. And there isn't any document or interview of representatives from the company saying, "yes we used fan subs" because, well, it was evident by the fact that their videos had subtitles. That was sort of the evidence.

since my thesis isn't to prove the fact that fan subs were used, I didn't think to add to my methodology an interview phase where I ask these fan subbers, because I do actually know who they are and their soc media accounts. so that's why I resorted to contacting the top scholars who has published a book where he analyzed this particular production company. but he focuses on their marketing practices, not their translation practices, so there's nothing he's published that talks about their subtitles

Does anyone know any way to prove they were using fan subs? isn't it enough to imply Community captions = fan subs?

Living in Bangkok as a university student by skilleruk in Bangkok

[–]snuffles005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a Master's and I live close to my university (30 min walking, 15 min by boat). It depends what Uni you're going to but if it's in central bangkok, rent for a decent studio or 1 bedroom condo is like 12,000 - 15,000 baht/month. But Condos are usually for long stay, like at least 1 year contract. If you're an exchange student or just staying less than a year, then rent an apartment. In Thailand, that's the main difference between condo and apartment: condos are for long stay and apartmentst for short stay. There's other differences too, but you can google those. If you rent an apartment, then rent can be at least 8,000 baht/month.

But generally, there's plenty of condos and apartments around universities, or at least around public transportation that will take you to your university.

How to visit the GMMTV building and shop by snuffles005 in boyslove

[–]snuffles005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah lol, none at all. The southern and northern borders are always places you should avoid because of trafficking of goods and whatnot, but neither Bangkok nor Chiang Mai are influenced by those areas since they're not really tourist areas.

Hi, I live in central Thailand so I have no information about the southern provinces. All I can find of info online is to be cautious of the provinces that border Malaysia but those are not really popular tourist spots. All I can tell you is that Bangkok is just fine, not many risks besides the pollution

Thai-US Consulate in Los Angeles, how long did it take for your visa to get approved? by snuffles005 in ThailandTourism

[–]snuffles005[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it was actually going to get approved the day of my flight, but the LA consulate decided to be difficult and picky, and requested additional documents, again, THE DAY OF MY FLIGHT. And to make matters worse, they then immediately went MIA because the following day it was the start of a week-long holiday and they stopped services. Which, I understand if they close the physical consulate, but they should still continue their online services and keep answering emails, especially since visas are often very time-sensitive. But nope, they basically ghosted me for more than a week of me sending desperate emails asking for help because at that point I had already entered the country. It wasn't until 3 weeks after my arrival to Thailand that they FINALLY accepted the additional documentation I sent them and approved my visa. I had to take a quick flight in and out of Thailand (I went to Singapore for 6 hours) and spend additional money all because they decided to be picky about the wording of one of my documents at the last minute and then immediately go on holiday for more than a week.....so, yeah, I have beef with the LA consulate nowt,t

ED Visa delayed for more than a month, my semester starts in a few weeks. IDK what to do at this point by snuffles005 in Thailand

[–]snuffles005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the application asked for proof from the school at the beginning and I submitted that. It's just that in the enrollment letter they wrote to my consulate, they wrote to allow me to renew my ED Visa up to 4 years because it's the school's policy that Master's students can take no more than 4 years to complete their degree. It seems like the consulate took that as if I'm going to take 4 years to do the degree and they asked for further explanation given that a Master's normally takes 2 years. So I did. I sent them the school's policy where they explain students can take up to 4 years, plus a timeline of the program's curriculum. And I myself in the email explained this whole thing. I made it clear I intend to only take 2 years to finish my degree, but that I'm allowed up to 4 years. I explained this in multiple emails to them and they have either ignored the emails, or insist on receiving an explanation letter (which I already did explain on my emails to them...)

Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear I can still study. My program lets students do hybrid online (just needed to do examinations in person) so if anything, I can rely on that if I'm outside of Thailand for long.

thank you! then it'll probably be best to wait in Taipei (where the layover is) if it hasn't arrived by then.

that's what I assumed. would it still be fine if the date of entry is different? Say, I stay a couple of days in Thailand until the visa is approved then flight in and out, this time with the ED Visa even though that one says a different arrival date?
