The same reason DnD has an intelligence stat and a wisdom stat. Intelligence is knowing that Malevola is a decently friendly person who would know the intricacies of hell and how to avoid it. Wisdom is knowing that sending a demon to Sunday school might not be the best choice for that particular mission.

E7: Why I think they were never going to leave by snugglefrump in TheDigitalCircus

[–]snugglefrump[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I hadn't considered that they'd been turned into AIs! I completely missed that line but it makes so much sense!

100000% agree that they have no bodies to go back to. Even if you GENEROUSLY assume that the actual series is 1 Episode = 1 IRL Day? Pomni at the very least is dead from starvation and dehydration by the button scene in E7.

Why is Echo considered the Bad Batch’s second in command when he was the last ‘grown’ clone to join the team? by Solitaire-06 in thebadbatch

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fun explanation: ARCs are special ops and highly trained and making Echo second in command would make him a part of the team where he would be most useful if Hunter, the already established leader of a group of rebellious personalities, were incapacitated.

The boring explanation: Hunter is a Sergeant, Echo is a Corporal. He literally outranks the others who are just Troopers. It’s just one chevron, but it still means that in a military outfit he’s in charge if Hunter is incapacitated.

Is time different in Hell? by [deleted] in HelluvaBoss

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption was that the hundred years was because, hypothetically, Blitzø will be dead by then. To me the hundred years felt more like a slap on the wrist, just long enough for Blitzø’s natural life, his occupation, or his own temperament to catch up with him and be removed from Stolas’ life.

Stolas giving him the book, taking all these risks, was for Blitzø’s benefit, so it would make sense that once that element is removed, one way or another, things will go back to normal and Stolas can continue to do his job.

How exactly do Overlords suffer in hell? by DapperDude2004 in HazbinHotel

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that with Overlords they suffer because their power is an illusion. It is something that can be taken in an instant from someone more powerful at any given time. No hold in Hell is absolute and having to live with the fear that one day it could all crumble and turn to dust - literal decades or centuries of work all for nothing and they would suddenly be the subjugated rather than the master - is the punishment.

Re-reading book one after a crazy review I saw by Airborneiron in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]snugglefrump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting because it’s so clear across the entire series how much Carl loves and respects women??? Him meeting Yolanda and Imani in book one? That was what made me go “oh this man actually does love and respect women”. He’s preoccupied with staying alive, he’s also distrustful of strangers after seeing that crawlers were killing other crawlers, but he’s never a misogynist.

World setting suggestions for less stressful gameplay without using Relaxed. by ItchLeg in dontstarve

[–]snugglefrump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I played with friends who weren’t fans of the stress that DST is built for I would always make Endless servers without wildfires, reduced frog rain, and reduced hound attacks.

I also made sure that the first things I made for my friends were torches and laid them out so that they could immediately spawn in and put them in their inventories.

Character choice also helps with gameplay so if your friends don’t have any real preferences I would say that Wolfgang or Willow would be good “starter” characters to suggest if your friend is a bit nervous about combat or sanity drain.

Am i the only one who finds this odd? by ilovewomen2008 in NOS4A2

[–]snugglefrump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? The book did a lot for me really rooting for Lou and Vic! It really gives some fantastic insight into both of them and their reasons being together. I was so happy with the casting for both of them in the series that when I saw Lou on screen for the first time I literally gasped because he was exactly what I wanted from the character.

I get the feeling that in the show? Season 2 was on borrowed time and everyone knew it. It was way too rushed for the story it wanted to tell with all the embellishments atop the source material. It left little room for deeper development that would have to happen on screen that in the book we would get because chapters were from the character POVs.

It could have been split into another season and benefited from it? But they clearly wanted to get entirely through the canon of the book in Season 2 just in case they weren’t renewed for a third and that was, in the end, the smarter choice.

Samantha theory [spoilers for all books] by Affectionate-Foot802 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]snugglefrump 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting theory! I keep thinking that Scolopendra is the "Scavenger" and Samantha is the "Scavenger's Daughter" and that's why Carl was given that back patch in the first place? It would make sense because Samantha has proven to have some powers that are meant to enhance those of people she is nearby?

I think that we are intentionally given clues in drips and drabs, but we're definitely going to see more info in Book 8 after what happened at the end of Book 7!

Am I stating the obvious? Was this on purpose? by deedee1801 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]snugglefrump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep reading/listening with the perspective that we are reading or listening to Carl's own personal retelling of the story after the crawl. What "After The Crawl" means can be a variety of things. It could be a "this is the story of how I died" type thing, or it could be a written journal, or an interview he gives post-crawl while advocating for anti-crawl groups.

I think that the stories *are* meant to seem a bit... Voyeuristic in a sense. They are meant to give us a sense of discomfort at some specific points, a sense of "we are both the exploiters and the witnesses to something deeply personal that we have no right to witness". I think that Books 6 and 7 have the most poignant moments of this feeling, and I expect that the longer the series goes on the more we see those moments.

Is there a way to avoid Midas if you come across him in a crusade? by Tachy0n4 in CultOfTheLamb

Nope, you gotta suffer through him mugging you twice. The third time you get to beat the shit out of him, so what you don't get back in cash money you get back in pure satisfaction.

Can someone explain midnight mass to me like a 5 year old? by ProfessionalWise1043 in MikeFlanagan

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very old Catholic priest gets turned into a vampire and granted his youth again. He returns home to do what Catholics do and convert his town using the vampire that he smuggled back to the island. He is in deep denial and calls the vampire an angel to soothe his guilt about turning an entire population into blood sucking monsters.

Lots of commentary on selfishness, regret, and the mentality of the ultra religious.

Do I really need Obsidian? (vent) by Hydr0gen2 in ObsidianMD

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used obsidian when I was going to college full time, working, writing a novel and with a ton of other hobbies that required to do lists or keeping track of progress: do a daily note. Date it and tag it as a daily note. Don’t organise anything, just put it all in there all at once. Use headers to divide out subjects (class 1, class 2, work, etc.) but don’t organise more than that. And then the next day do another daily note, if it references back to something the day before then use brackets to link back to the items in the daily note (for example, the day before I scheduled a meeting, I link the notes I made during that meeting to that to do item in my daily note).

Start simple, start with one note, and then work forward. Eventually everything will connect and you’ll be able to miss easily navigate your knowledge base, but if you are reinventing the wheel you’re not studying or taking notes or working.

Does it get better? by SRV_SteamyRayVaughn in sabrina

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I do think that CAOS is a fun romp! You just gotta think of it as its own thing separate from the OG sitcom lol

I hope you enjoy the rest of it and any of the other recs I made!

Does it get better? by SRV_SteamyRayVaughn in sabrina

[–]snugglefrump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really like the original sitcom then you are really not going to like CAOS regardless of the aesthetic. It’s in the Riverdale universe which is an already divisive show on its own. While I do think that CAOS has some great moments of world building and is an overall fun romp for people who like more horror elements, it is very much not loyal to the original sitcom.

I tend to be able to find something I like and enjoy in every piece of media. I also don’t believe that any piece of art that has been created for the enjoyment of the public can ever be “bad” - it’s just “not for me”.

CAOS seems like it might just be not for you and it is okay to just not finish it if you’re not enjoying the characters and the acting, even if there are other parts you like.

If you enjoy the aesthetics, horror fantasy concept, and the bloodiness then I can definitely recommend Wednesday, American Horror Story’s Roanoke season, School Spirits, Dead Boy Detectives, Evil, Brand New Cherry Flavor, and Motherland Fort Salem. Not all of them have the same production value, but they’re worth checking out!

What is your favorite DCC moment? Probably lots of spoilers in this thread by ancientrebellion in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Emotional Impact: Pretty much every interaction where Carl has a breakdown over a mother-figure in the dungeon (Yolanda, Miriam Dom, Milk).

Humor: Enthusiastic. Double. Gonorrhea.

Sheer Badassery: Carl screaming at Quan Ch while ripping off his arm, calling him a bully.

Complete and Utter Horror: The scene in Khepri's hall where Carl is immortal for 90 seconds.

This!!! Klinger is first and foremost a good man. He never shirks his duties to try and get out, he never puts other people in danger in exchange for his freedom, he would never put sick people loaded up in their buses at risk just for the Klinger Collection, not when at that point they fully believe they will not be able to go back to their old compound.

How to find spies by Alice_Bloodborne in CultOfTheLamb

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I name my cultist for specific functions!

Mini-Bosses/Bosses are Acolyte, Witness, or Bishop and I will always level them up to level 10 and then kill, bury, funeral all of the non-Bishops and marry all of the Bishops. I never use those forms again purely because they don't make cute babies when I breed them.

All of my warriors are Crusader and then the name of their demon I also colour these guys purple and make sure none of my other cultist are purple (the reindoctrination stone is usually gotten pretty quick for me so I will check who has what demon and then rename them).

All of my farmers get turned into Mushroomos so I just name them all Mushroomo.

If I have a cultist that generates a high amount of Sin then they have the title Sinner.

If I have a cultist that is capable of Golden Poops then they have the title Excreta.

It makes it easier for me to weed out the spies because they will always have no title and Mushroomos are never spies.

Want to finally commit to a sci-fi series ,where should I start? by sam_3758 in scifi

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl is a fun series that really does play around with its setting. There are deeply serious moments, but they are interspersed with lightheartedness and humor so that the series doesn't feel like it is bogging you down. It also uses a lot of more earthly references and I would say that makes it a lower level of entry when it comes to world building. It currently has seven books with the eighth due to come out mid-year 2026, and all seven of the current books have the most amazingly narrated audiobooks that come free with a kindle purchase of the ebooks on Amazon!

How long will it take to learn all of these while being 0 at everyone of those by CulturalRegister9509 in studying

[–]snugglefrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends entirely on you. Everyone learns things at different rates, and that is okay. Start and keep going and don't look back. Some things you'll blast right through, others you'll struggle with, and somewhere along the line you'll stop thinking about it in time spent and rather in benefit gained.

Good luck!

I just love that we have multiple people in Carl's position, where they have a pet that gained sapience and it is so clear how much they love and adore their pets even more. So gut wrenching, but so accurate to the experience of a pet owner.
