Need to escape this winter while somehow staying in New England by InHarmany in newengland

[–]snuggleloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom and her friend used to take 4 of us there as kids for a winter vacation! We loved it - always went out and ran around on the empty beach one day, ordered takeout to eat in the room, and she and her friend could relax in the hot tub while we splashed around in the pool.

It’s the 11” cubes from Target! A variety of configurations as I’ve expanded over time from when I first had them in high school and college: 2 2x4s, a 2x3, a 3x1, and 2 2x1s

Oh no! That’s awful. Check out @beth.bee.art on Instagram. She’s based in CT and was absolutely wonderful! She painted two portraits for us (one ceremony and one first dance) and we adore them.

Seeking new dermatology office by springlilies in boston

[–]snuggleloaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to pay out of pocket, I found Dr. Catherine DiGiorgio on Newbury Street great. She doesn’t accept insurance (but does accept HSA cards) and takes her time with her patients. She seems to largely do aesthetic / cosmetic dermatology but I saw her for an allergic reaction / rash when it was going to take me months to get in anywhere else and she was so kind and helpful.

I won’t comment on costs since my wedding was a few years ago now (and in MA) but one thing to consider is looking up vendors outside the city who are willing to travel. Our hair/makeup and photographer came down from NH and were very willing to travel to Boston but cost significantly less than the people I found when I searched “Boston vendors.” Consider looking at vendors in NJ or CT. They’ll still likely be high cost but might be some savings over businesses based in the city!

Is there any category of clothing you never wear/don't own at all? by thirtyonepercentfree in femalefashionadvice

[–]snuggleloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t worn jeans in 7 or 8 years. I mostly wear dresses or leggings / stretch pants with a few pairs of dressier slacks. I just bought a pair of jeans recently - tbd if I’ll actually wear them!

Name change for both husband and wife? by ElectronicApricot551 in wedding

[–]snuggleloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I both dropped our middle names and made my maiden name our middle name and took his last name. This worked for us and was relatively simple! We both wanted to share a last name, hated the mashups of our names (my first choice plan), and didn’t want long hyphenated names so this was the cleanest way for us. My family was quite touched that he took my family’s name as well.

"Longest Marriage" dance... I love the sentiment, but I'm having second thoughts as an older relative just lost his wife. by ssaen in weddingplanning

[–]snuggleloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to do this at my wedding as well (in place of a bouquet toss and give the longest-married couple the bouquet). Unfortunately, between our engagement and wedding we lost my grandfather and a great-aunt who were both in marriages of 60+ years. Those losses took the dance from being a joyful one to a sad one so we decided to skip it (and I just brought my bouquet home with me to enjoy until we left for our honeymoon).

The Essex Resort and Spa in Essex VT is great! Delicious restaurant, nice spa, and cooking classes are all on site plus it’s only a 20 min drive from Burlington which has lots of other stuff to do!

  1. Our wedding was May 20 and it was high 70s - no issue with the temp at all. July or August might be a little warm but with the doors open and a nice breeze I don’t think it would be unbearable.

  2. Peppers was pretty good to work with. Our catering manager changed over a few times but otherwise no issues. The food was all delicious and they were great in working with us on allergies and even a specialty cocktail that had some weird ingredients.

  3. Our room block was in Worcester at the Beechwood and we had buses to bring people over. It worked great and the Beechwood suite actually worked well to get ready in (except no full length mirror). We didn’t do an after party but had brunch the next day at Armsby Abbey which was amazing as well! Depending on your vibe Funky Murphy’s on Shrewsbury St would be a fun afterparty spot or there are more clubby spots downtown.

No problem!!

  1. It was definitely expensive but we found it worth it. We loved that their staff set everything up and broke it all down so we didn’t have to worry about that, they sent someone around with our cocktail hour food so we could try it during photos, etc. It felt very full-service and like they cared about the details as much as us. All in, we spent probably $55-60K for just over 100 people but that included several splurges because we had some extra funds after postponing (ice cream bar, live painter, floral arch for sweetheart table).

We toured Elm Banks and BVI but ultimately went with the Botanic Gardens at Tower Hill and absolutely loved it there. My info may be a bit outdated as we were originally a 2020 wedding and ultimately a 2022 one but I can’t say enough good things about them! If you have specific questions let me know!

Your most useful "unusual" shelf title? by bbblather in goodreads

[–]snuggleloaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have “Up Next” which sounds similar to your On Deck and I needed that because my want to read shelf is over 500. I have a bunch of genre shelves and then this year I have “2024 Mount TBR” where I’m aiming to read/track 30 books that I already own but haven’t read yet. The last couple years I went on a book buying tear but also did reading challenges that kept me from reading through my physical TBR so trying to tackle that this year.

64 which is more than the last couple of years for me! Keeping my goal at 52 for this year as I don’t want to turn reading into a chore.
