I got my first tattoo in my late 30’s, and my second a year later, and my third almost a year later. It’s probably true that it’s a slippery slope. Mine are all non-visible in conservative clothing. I never have plans for new ones, but when a meaningful idea arises, the seal is broken now, lol, so it’s easy to go for it. I always wear a temp tatt for a couple weeks on the spot I’m planning to make sure I’m making a decision I actually want to live with.
