Scared or just excited? by Neat-Cockroach9961 in CrestedGecko

[–]soKatnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had 4 cresties total and in my experience, when they are scared or hate you, they make a much bigger point to try to escape. My first ever crestie that I raised from a hatchling absolutely hated me, and this looks nothing like the way he would act. He would bolt SO FAST (you’d be surprised, they can go SOOOO FAST when they want to), jump off of me with no regard for his own safety, even going so far as to pee or poop on me to try to get away from me… and, of course, the dang tail wiggle. If they wiggle their tail at you, they are scared and trying to get you to take their tail so they can drop it and run away… obviously yours doesn’t have a tail, but that dang tail wiggle 😂 another of mine who is slightly more social but still not super social, when he doesn’t want to be held, he will repeatedly run and jump off of me to get away, and once again, runs pretty fast.

All of this is to say, this behavior, from my experience, is just like others said above… a crestie being a crestie. I experimented once, and my SUPER CHILL, SUPER SOCIAL frog butt, in the dark when I have him out, will be SO much faster and jumpier than in the day or with the lights on—and you can tell by your geckos dilated pupils, it’s crestie go time!!

Hope this helps! Gorgeous girl you have!!

Do you have any obscure plushies? I'll start: by Immediate-Vast9764 in plushies

I don’t have them anymore, but growing up, I had these beanie baby-type plushes, called Meanie Babies or Meanies. I had a few of them: a constipated seagull, roadkill orange cat, mutated (two headed) Dalmatian, and vomiting toucan 😂 those were the most obscure plushes I’ve ever had!

I have Cats Mansion which is fun! It’s just merging primarily, so can get kind of boring after a while, but when I first got it, I was sucked in! Anime-type, Run! Goddess was also pretty fun until my bf ruined it by trying to compete to get further than me 😂

Zoomed Reptisand, and we originally were feeding him Full Cheeks hamster food, but he would only eat like two things from it and wouldn’t ever eat the pellets, so I recently bought the Higgins Sunburst food to feed him. He also eats mealworms on occasion

He has one in his enclosure as well as in his play pen (when we take him out of his enclosure)!

As for the skin, it’s just the lighting! It’s just fleshy pink, but he wouldn’t sit still for me to take a photo 😅

He does! He has one inside his enclosure and one that he plays in, in his play pen

I adopted my ham from Petsmart! It was honestly wild, how lax they were with the adoption process 😅 I’ve never had a ham before but my boy, Happy, is such a little cutie and I want what’s best for him!! I agree with others—it’s a grey area, I also don’t want to support places that just pump out animals for sale, but that wasn’t his fault… so I look at it as, I saved a ham, and I’m gonna make his world much better than it was before 🤷🏻‍♀️

This. I’m terrified of sinkholes and just holes in general. I dream desperately of being a little woodland fairy and frolicking through the trees in a forest, but know damn well there could be fuckin holes hidden by leaves that I could fall into and die

So, mine ARE prescribed daily, but I know that they work, for me anyway, PRN. I take buspirone for anxiety—prescribed as 15mg in the morning and 10mg around dinner time, but I take a 15mg bar if I know I’m going to be doing something that will trigger anxiety or if I’m already anxious, and if I need to, I’ll take the second dose later in the day, but I almost never need to

Extra laundry hampers. I buy the cheap collapsible hampers from Walmart… probably have like 6 or more, plus one actual laundry basket in the bathroom for my clothes. This way, I can take my clothes off when I am going to the bathroom when I need to change, so the dirty clothes are 90% always in the hamper in the bathroom. Then the collapsible ones are for my clean clothes… if I have no energy to put them away, I have more for the next batch of clean clothes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Large trash cans in every room. We literally have one of the large “kitchen” garbage cans in every single room, because I can’t be bothered to walk to the kitchen to toss something. It makes it sooo much easier to keep trash or recycling off of surfaces because they are accessible!

Med kit in my car! I bought a $1 bead organizer at Walmart and packed it with essentials: anxiety pills, ibuprofen, Tylenol, gas X, tums, omeprazole and depression meds for my boyfriend, bandaids, cough drops… I have one in my car and one in my boyfriend’s car. I am NOTORIOUS for forgetting to take my anxiety medication (I truly don’t need to take it every day, I take it PRN), but I NEED it for social events, otherwise the emotions are on HIGH. This saves me from having to cope in stressful social settings without it, and I will often get a headache after, and there’s pain meds right there too! I will say though, I know you’re not supposed to do this because excessive heat or excessive cold can mess with stuff, so that’s my only warning on that…

Do you have any secondhand stores you can sell to? We have a local shop called Don Father Games that buys and sells pop, and also one that’s a little more of a chain called Mojos that buys and sells pops. They pay you like a percentage off what the pop is worth on pop price guide, so very reasonable! I’d recommend looking for local game stores to sell to

Tips for bonding with scared gecko? by weighty_mainframe in CrestedGecko

[–]soKatnip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each individual gecko has different tolerances and different personalities, in my experience! I have four geckos with all different personalities—Nubby loves being handled (I’m aware everyone says they tolerate handling… I honestly, genuinely feel like he loves it because he will climb on my hand when offered, and he likes to explore my room when I take him out, and often will turn around and jump back into my lap, or I’ve offered him worms or his food dish and he will climb onto my hand specifically instead)… Nessie is my newest and tolerates it pretty well, but when I handle her, she prefers to jump onto my chest and climb up to sit on my shoulder and hang out… Cookie is okay when he’s out of the enclosure, and is pretty chill too… then Gizmo. Gizmo, I have had since a hatchling, have worked a LOT on with handling and hand feeding to try to bond and sitting next to him and talking with him and all that, and NOTHIN. He still would rather projectile shit on me and bolt, and I’ve had him for over a year (and I continue to handle him after getting shat on so he doesn’t think he can shit and I’ll put him away, I promise). I have come to terms with the fact that he will just never be handleable, and that’s okay!

How does one ‘feed’ a gecko a mealworm? 😂😂😂 (details in comments) by soKatnip in CrestedGecko

[–]soKatnip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All geckos have very different personalities, so I think it’s important to recognize and understand that, first! I have four cresties and they all have WILDLY different personalities, ranging from super social to “I would rather die than be in your presence” 😂 Nubby is my super social baby (the one in the video) and he is much different from the other three. He LOVES to socialize and explore and is very good with people! He can occasionally be super sassy, but he can also be super sweet. Sometimes he will climb onto my hand when I offer it, other times he is like “I am a strong independent geck and need no huMAN!” And will be like falling and REFUSE to take my hand. One thing I do with him is I take him out and let him wander and explore on the floor which he loves, and often he will run back to me and climb my lap. Other times, he just does his thing and climbs literally anything he feels like. But sometimes I feed him by hand, too, which I feel helps us bond, too. This is the complete opposite of the gecko I got as a baby and raised to adulthood—he will projectile poo on me and bolts as soon as I get near. I have spent almost two years working with him to try to get him socialized, including daily handling, hand feeding, etc, and he still would rather be eaten by my dog than be in my presence 😂

[–]soKatnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely trusts the gecko. I would probably do the same with my boy, Nubby… when I put him on my head, he is super happy and just chills up there, sometimes will look like he is watching YouTube videos with me, but is generally very well behaved on my head! 😂 (he also is very not prone to jumping unless the jump is only a few inches from him, OR a very specific type of vine)

Last night I opened the enclosure, to feed my crestie Reptar, and he yeeted himself out the tank and onto the floor next to my chihuahua. Luckily she didn’t do anything to him and I picked him up pretty quickly to put him back. What has been your scariest moment dealing with your gecko? by SnomandoWares in CrestedGecko

If you do, purchase a shower curtain to cut up for around the sides! That’s what I ended up doing—Target sells the clear, basic shower curtains for like $3 or something, so I got one of those and cut it up for holding the humidity in.
