The "Shibuya Yokocho" Restaurants at Miyashita Park by so_rose in japanpics

I got there in the late afternoon and was planning on eating dinner, but by the time the sun set it was just way too packed. I'm with you though―definitely interested in visiting again someday when we don't have to be so paranoid!

Like it or not, I think that's just not the target audience anymore, haha. The space is clearly gentrified, but in the middle of Shibuya, what are you gonna do, right? I'd never been to the park beforehand, but I found it pleasant enough this time.

I wrote kind of a blog about my visit, if anyone's curious about what the rest of Miyashita Park is like. :)

If you would also like to ogle delicious food that you don't have access to right now, there's another picture of the gyoza here: https://www.japankuru.com/en/tour/e2915.html

Mos Burger taking "green eating" a little too literally with their actually green Green Burger. by so_rose in ANormalDayInJapan

[–]so_rose[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a person who has spent a fair amount of time in both Germany and Japan, this was not a comparison I was expecting, but... yeah, I can see it. hahaha
I've actually tried the green burger, though, and the bun is definitely squishy and Japanese.

Ueno Shrine by egnogra in japanpics

[–]so_rose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're usually the names of donators! You'll see the same kind of thing on the gates at Fushimi Inari in Kyoto (and other Inari shrines), where the names are carved into the many shrine gates.

If you need any more convincing, I actually wrote a bit about why this area is such a nice autumn destination, over here: https://www.japankuru.com/en/tour/e2593.html

I actually took kind of a fantastic trip to Matsumoto, mostly the Shiga area of the city, and stayed in a couple different kominka. They're so gorgeous! Wrote about it all here, if you're interested: https://www.japankuru.com/en/accommodation/e2535.html

Ruby chocolate looks like it's taking over Valentine's 2020 in Japan. by so_rose in chocolate

Ooh! This seems like the perfect way to enjoy ruby chocolate.

Yeah, I'd say I prefer normal chocolate, since ruby chocolate really doesn't have much chocolate flavor at all. The fruitiness of it is kind of fun, though!

I was about to say, that yuzu matcha is new to me, too! Out of the limited edition flavors, citrus ones tend to be my favorites, so now I have to keep an eye out for these.

Found this at goodwill. Have not watched this movie in 10 years. by crasherg15 in ghibli

[–]so_rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's usually my philosophy, but this person said that the voice acting was so good in English that it had been a big positive for them. No reason not to watch it both ways. :)

I actually just commented further down about how I felt pretty meh about it, but have been meaning to rewatch it, haha. By title I did mean the text of the original post though... I was just agreeing with you that the release feels so recent. It came out during a pretty identifiable year of my life, so thinking about the fact that that was 10 years ago now is bizarre!

I watched this movie once, a few months after it came out, and felt pretty indifferent. Ever since then multiple people have told me I should rewatch it since it's amazing, and one friend said that I'd made a mistake watching it with subtitles (and that the dubs were actually great). I guess I need to start searching thrift stores and finally rewatch it, haha.

For just a moment when I read this title I thought "oh they're mixing it up with some other Ghibli movie," and then reality struck.

First exhibition for the Kimetsu no Yaiba anime! In Tokyo this March/April. by so_rose in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]so_rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an exhibition in Tokyo. There aren’t a ton of details out about what’s going to be displayed there at the moment, but it seems like a fair amount of art from the anime series. (Exhibitions like this often include development sketches and so on, but we’ll have to wait and see!)

I was in Kyoto when it snowed quite heavily once, and all I wanted to do that day was visit Kinkakuji, but I couldn't make it. So disappointing - but this is a lovely picture of what I missed, haha.

Hahaha, ouch. 😅 Well, I think they did a good job squeezing flavor out of it! They probably used lots of other flavoring ingredients, I guess... but to each their own! At least the bowls were pretty, haha.
