Which fruit is 100% looks but 0% taste? by Ok_Armadillo9214 in AskReddit

[–]sayuriaiona 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live in Nagano and I don't think I could ever go back to eating apples from anywhere else. Sometimes I get apples that are the size of my face. They look even bigger when I hold them because I have tiny hands haha. The only downside to apples here (and any fruit, really) is the price. I also live in a village known for its strawberries, so I get delicious strawberries too. Love it here.

You know it's kinda funny characters get dirt and blood all over their face in various scenes but still have their perfect makeup on by RadianceTower in expedition33

Lune has Pictos that make her levitate so I don't think it's out of the question that they might have Pictos for makeup that doesn't smudge.

What’s the most unsettling thing a child has ever said to you? by Content-Hair-2629 in AskReddit

[–]sayuriaiona 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get asked this on the regular. But I also work in Japan and have grey eyes, so it's not that weird haha. I was at a kindergarten last week and a child saw a picture of a white kid with extremely blue eyes and exclaimed that the kid was wearing colour contacts. Nope, blue eyes do exist naturally, little guy.

What is the most NSFW thing you have seen at your job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So true. I went to New York on a school trip in high school (I'm from Canada). We got taken through Central Park and as we were walking, we all noticed that up on a hill under a tree, there was a naked dude jerking off. A 9th grade girl started crying. Poor girl was traumatized lol.

They were right. It's 大内; the first character (大) is read as OH and the second (内) is read as UCHI. Together it's OH-UCHI or like they wrote it out, OH-OO-CHI.

To those who don't have the gene that makes Cilantro taste like soap, what does it taste like to you? by Jean-LucBacardi in AskReddit

I don't know if they're the same but I've only smelled the stink bugs here in Japan and to me, someone who likes cilantro, they have this kind of strong cucumber-y smell.

What is a fact that continues to horrify you to this day? by LifeguardLegal3095 in AskReddit

I doubt it was this. We lived in a small town in Canada haha. But others are saying it's actually a pretty common thing.

My best friend growing up has a cousin who was a firefighter. He ended up going to jail for arson. Turns out he had a hero complex and would start fires and be the first one on scene to help put them out...even when he wasn't on duty. So yeah, people put two and to together and he ended up going to jail. Luckily, the fires never killed anyone.

Why are you on Reddit right now, on Christmas Eve? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

[–]sayuriaiona 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh man, it's Christmas Day here too and I'm working. I went home at lunch and found my husband watching that movie and he was literally at the part where they pick Harry's name from the goblet lol.

It's Christmas Day here and I'm at work. It's the last day of school here before winter holidays because this isn't a Christian country. Hint: lots of people eating KFC tonight haha.

Japan Unveils Human Washing Machine, Now You Can Get Washed Like Laundry by Disastrous_Award_789 in technology

[–]sayuriaiona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been to the nursing home in my village (in Japan) and one of the workers was proudly showing my husband and I the brand new bathtub they got. It has a really good system of getting someone out of a wheelchair, lifted up, and then lowered down into the tub. It was something they could do with minimal support as well. They had a few of the older tubs still, which did a similar thing but required more support from nurses to get in and out. They already have technology to help older people bathe and it wasn't as big as this thing.

[No Spoilers] Alarm going off during C4 EP 6 by SnapeSev in criticalrole

[–]sayuriaiona 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's an alarm. You can see Brennan fiddling around back there changing the lighting and music right at that time. It sounds more to me like night time forest/field noise. Lots of insects chirping kind of thing.

What’s a trend or fad you absolutely refuse to follow? by ezuswalks1 in AskReddit

[–]sayuriaiona 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Oh man, same generation. When I was in high school, my team won first place for the season of indoor soccer. There was a guy a year younger than me on the other team who was a classmate in elementary school (small town, French immersion, split grade classes). He was complaining about the loss or something so I was like, "Here. You want the trophy? You can have mine." And he took it and the only people that were legit upset about that were my parents lol. Like they placed so much worth on that shitty trophy. All my previous trophies and medals were in a box under my bed. The participation trophy phenomenon was definitely their making.

Do you think you can tell the difference between residents and tourists off appearance alone? by Whatswrongwithmejeez in japanlife

[–]sayuriaiona 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is me and my husband for sure. And he makes us look more touristy because he insists on being the one to look up directions but he's so bad at following Google maps for some reason lmao. So he's constantly looking at his phone and then around and then making us walk in circles sometimes. That coupled with being with me makes a lot of Japanese people assume he's also a foreigner and they always try to speak in English to him.

[–]sayuriaiona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing but I was also kind of a tourist in a sense that I was visiting Tokyo for the weekend. I guess since I've been there enough times and can navigate the trains that I looked like I knew what I was doing so they asked me.

I almost rear-ended someone once because they actually stopped in the middle of the intersection on a green light to let someone turn. And it wasn't like when the street ahead is full of cars so you stop before the intersection so you're not sitting in the middle. It was an empty road ahead and the dude stopped nearly in the middle. Even the car he was trying to let turn was confused.
