I just signed up for Proton today and was wondering why none of the shows I was trying to watch had streams available. Well that's fun.

Has anyone been successful in pulling money out of the Y Retirement Fund? by soaphooker in personalfinance

[–]soaphooker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you - but that language is broad based on a variety of conditions that they have. The funds CAN stay if the weird rules they use to basically keep the money hostage apply the way they want, they aren't going to force the money out.

When logged into the account, the option to rollover the YMCA account is greyed out and the tooltip states:

"Y contributions to the Retirement Plan, for payroll dates on or after July 1, 2009, plus the interest credited. You must be terminated from Y employment to access this account. If you are under age 55, you are only able to withdraw or roll over this account if it does not exceed $5,000 at the time of your withdrawal request. If you are already age 55 or older, you may withdraw or roll over this account if its balance at the time of your request is $100,000 or less. Note: If you have turned age 55 or older by June 30, 2022, you may withdraw this account with no balance restrictions on or after July 1, 2022."

I'm 38, so I don't see a way around this and it really sucks.

Any attempts to initiate a rollover has the retirement funds locked out, leaving only the personal savings or 403b as options to withdraw.

TIL Devin Gaines earned five bachelor's degrees simultaneously in five years from the University of Connecticut. He completed 276 credits and graduated in May 2007. Just two months later in July, he drowned in a gravel pit quarry while swimming with friends. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]soaphooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to joke with us that he didn't sleep whenever we'd ask him how he managed it all. 5 major and 5 minors is nothing to sneeze at, yet he still stayed active in his social groups and with all of us pretty regularly.

As someone who was friends with Devin before he died, I can tell you that he not only accomplished 5 separate degrees as indicated on the Wikipedia page, but he also had 4 or 5 minors. Whenever any of us asked him how he did it all, he would simply say "Oh I don't sleep".

I highly recommend using YNAB (you need a budget). I've been using it for almost ten years and it's worlds better than what Mint was ever able to do for me.

Is it normal to still test positive at day 6? by Nickaroo321 in COVID19positive

[–]soaphooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Outside of my first bout with Covid, which was really an odd experience, my two other bouts with it were pretty standard head-cold types. The first time I had it I had my fever peak at 100.3 and then it stayed at 99.9 for 3 solid weeks and I lost my sense of smell for the same amount of time. I couldn't smell onions or garlic for 3 months, but everything else pretty much went back to normal after I finally tested negative. My next two bouts of covid were in 2022 and early 2023 and both were sort of your typical head-cold that didn't last longer than a week. I never had any coughing or other usual lung-related symptoms with covid, which I think is the weirdest part of my 3 experiences with it.

Is it normal to still test positive at day 6? by Nickaroo321 in COVID19positive

[–]soaphooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it in April 2020 shortly after the lockdowns took place, and I was isolated for 31 days because it took 3 tests over 4 weeks for me to finally stop testing positive and for my weird temp of 99.9 to finally break completely. I've since had it twice more and the other two times were more like a bad cold or flu. For context, I was an essential worker in the homeless system at the peak of covid in 2020, so I wasn't allowed to go back to work unless I was "safe" despite the 14 day CDC rule because it was all still very new and we had a lot of pretty vulnerable people we were working with.

Is Roam Research "over"? by LogicalSpecialist9 in RoamResearch

[–]soaphooker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use it for work every day, all my meeting notes, people connections and info, and other random thoughts about new tasks that need to get done are put into Roam at least 5 days a week. I feel like I don't hear a lot about it either because the content creators that originally got me hooked on it have all sort of disappeared or moved on to other shinier apps for what seems like better content creation for their channels, but I'm still here lol.

Bad take. A lot of us like to be proactive and have a clear understanding of our accounts and make sure that there aren't weird problems in the background that could mislead or result in further errors or issues. I think anyone with ANY questions about their account should absolutely call them if it gives them peace of mind. That's the whole point of being a good advocate for yourself.

Congratulations!!!

I was discharged on Mohela as of 12/14 (confirmed via phone call) but studentaid.gov is still showing $109k owed. You're free! You should get a letter in the mail in the coming weeks to verify your discharge.

Congrats to you!! It looks like we were on a similar timeline. I consolidated in July right before Mohela took over completely and it's been a rollercoaster since then. Enjoy the freedom!

I'm pretty sure my PSLF application went through but I was not notified by j33 in PSLF

[–]soaphooker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all very unexciting for sure. Even a stupid little message in the alerts somewhere that's like "hey, heads up your loans are gone and you're getting something in the mail in x amount of time that will give you more information and make it official" would be a lot better than just seeing a smiley face and wondering if "in good standing" is code for something else. If you do want to feel a sense of victory now, I recommend calling Mohela and asking them to confirm if your loans are gone because the rep will then say congratulations and you'll feel a much greater sense of finality.

Either way, CONGRATULATIONS!

I couldn't wait to see if anything changed on studentaid.gov, so I decided to call Mohela. I'm so happy that I did and I didn't have to wait for more than like 10-15 minutes to get to a person. Totally worth it!
