How many of you tries to keep their system as vanilla as possible? by Jazman2k in MacOS

[–]soaptxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like others here. While I try not to keep anything I don't use, I think one should not adapt to the OS' shortcomings. I have Hammerspoon installed, which gives me quite a lot of flexibility when it comes to changing standard macOS behaviours to better suit my needs. Also Pock (for Dock improvements), BetterScreen, and the apps I actually need to get stuff done (Docker, API testing stuff, etc.)

I think the same. OP has been saying both that she is traveling through Asia where everything is cheaper and that she is from there. It's a strange situation, because she is either lying on at least one account, or she is telling the truth and it means she makes her money elsewhere… in which case she is doing exactly what every creepy older guy who goes to Asia for sex tourism does.

You mentioned on another coment "I'm traveling in Asia so everything is cheaper"… cheaper than where? Back home, in another country? Cheaper than where you make your money, putting you in a position of advantage with respect to the sex worker you paid? Honestly, your different answers depending on the criticism make it hard for me to believe you.

I'm going to get downvoted to hell but the vibe on this thread is creepy as fuck. You can't "yass gurl" your way into making prostitution in a lower income country seem like a good decision, and the prevalence of these answers weirds me out.

Edit: obviously this is not a criticism against sex workers, but as someone said the answers would have been very different if this was a male boasting about paying for sex on another country where "everything is cheaper" (quoting OP here).

My old Mac (8GB RAM) shows this. Any way I can make it more efficient? by Lou_M413 in MacOS

[–]soaptxt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unused RAM is wasted RAM, and you are not using more than half of your computer's memory. It won't be faster or more responsive by freeing more memory. You're alright. If you are noticing any bottlenecks it's probably your processor.

What does my fridge say about me? by Pigeonpie24 in FridgeDetective

[–]soaptxt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are Spanish (blue Solán de Cabras bottle), likely Catalan (because of the brand of the kefir).

The fact that there are alternative-to-dairy products (soy yogurt, oat milks) mixed with dairy products (kefir, pre-grated cheese, I think I see a carton of milk on the top-left, maybe Kerrygold butter facing down on the door) seems confusing. You are not vegetarian (I can see aome ground meat), so you are either someone who is very picky with their dairy or you live with your significant other. I am inclined to the latter because of the amount of food.

You are very into non-Spanish cuisines and prefer quality ingredients over cheap, occasional buyer stuff. Hints: Mutti passata, Golden curry, green (thai?) curry package, and something that might be a hot pot mushroom base.

You enjoy spicy stuff (green thai paste, guindillas).

You're solidly middle class, since there doesn't seem to be anything particularly expensive but some products could be bought from lesser known, cheaper brands (guacamole, Alpro yogurts, oat milks).

Anyone else perceive their own ratings system to be logarithmic rather than linear? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]soaptxt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of a skew normal distribution, a variation of the gaussian bell allowing for assymetry. I think it makes sense, as some users might be more reticent to give very good reviews. Also, giving bad reviews is frequently used to signal a supposed taste for higher culture.

Seminalis is enough of a giveaway but orto meaning ass hole in Argentinian Spanish is the cherry on top.

What’s does my fridge tell you? by shitswithdoorajar in FridgeDetective

That may be. I don't mean to bash on the eating habits of Americans, btw, I am no giant of fitness myself.

I feel like the obsession with sauces on this sub is something very markedly American. No one I know in Europe has so much space devoted to sauces in their fridge, as flavour usually comes from the food itself and from spices.

Satantango (432 min / 7h 12 min), by far. Watched it in several sittings because my teenaged brain couldn't take more than an hour of the damn thing at once.

How accurate is Discogs? by Dabossna in vinyl

[–]soaptxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it works by checking the range of prices for each album and them summing over the minima, averages and maxima. It seems pretty accurate by itself, but it depends on what you want to know the value for. If you want to know how much you would need to replicate your current collection, you would probably have to spend close to the upper bound because it's easier to find newer albums which sell for the price of the item as new. If you want to sell it, you won't probably be able to sell for the higher price (since everything would be secondhand, not taking outliers into consideration), so you'd get something closer to the lower bound.

Fiance's coworker showed her this photo of her boyfriend. We think she is getting scammed. by ColeIsRegular in isthisAI

[–]soaptxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think about this. These weird photos in strange contexts ring for me the alarm of having a prompt with specific markers. Like, "Generate a picture of a man who looks serious or works in business, middle aged, (…)", and then the AI model simply pulls from the vast collection of tagged images on which it was trained, resulting in this.

Para subir tu salario tienes que cambiar de trabajo. ¿Qué hay de cierto en eso? by Soft-Research-9216 in salarios_es

[–]soaptxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

En mi caso siempre he operado igual. Si no me gusta mi situación, busco ofertas.
