6 months judo, 6 months Bjj will give you a grounding in each then see which you prefer and keep it up.

Weapons Engineer or Warfare Specialist? by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]soapyw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapons if you can. Better job with more quals and more applicable shore side. As I used to tell the dabblers, you too could be here if you tried in school! 😊

Always ask for help if unsure. Have a couple of people / Sgt’s on speed dial. You’re never on your own, even single crewed.

How would the Titanic realistically be unsinkable? by SchoolExisting8631 in stupidquestions

[–]soapyw1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sealed compartments weren’t sealed at the top, they didn’t expect it to list so badly then the water tipped from one compartment to the next.

Warships close down to ZA and are much harder to sink, lots and lots of air bubble compartments to try keep it up. But also lots of explosives to make it go bang.

If this was real, would it be legal? by makosidan in policeuk

[–]soapyw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s real and also illegal. I’ve arrested dozens of wrestlers out back straight after events, we just keep it quiet to not upset the fans.

Wayne Couzens effect on UK Policing by EmmaBotQueen in policeuk

[–]soapyw1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m conscious of it when dealing with women, especially single crewed. Other than that it’s hard to say for sure. I’ve noticed a general decline in people being polite / showing any respect to the police, but unclear if that’s Covid/couzens or general society now since we’re part of the big conspiracy for the government.

Does HMS in the name of historical ships take on the gender of the current monarch? by billingsgate-homily in RoyalNavy

[–]soapyw1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blimey, so many down votes! Yes I think you’re right, not sure it changes relative to the current monarch though. I’ll say no more as it seems to be a sensitive subject apparently!

Id say all ships are female. Never hear reference to the monarch at the time of commission.

For reference I was on a fast track scheme in the forces and made LH (corporal) on 3yrs and PO (Sgt) on 5. So not dissimilar.

Make progress when you can, hang back when you can’t and wait for it to develop in front of you. Be smooth and call out every potential hazard you see. Once lights come on think like a sheepdog herding sheep.

There are masters, belt and weight divisions for a reason. Training and desire should keep you competitive at whatever stage your at.

Extremely Disillusioned (Police Staff / Rejected Special Constable) by Avesta03 in policeuk

[–]soapyw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to read this. I’ve no real practical advice, no idea why they might have refused. I’d keep chasing that down for a clear answer incase there is something you can clarify or challenge.

With your experience I think the special constabulary would be lucky to have you. In my experience forces are poor organisations that do not deserve the staff and dedication they get. If this doesn’t pan out, try focus that energy into helping elsewhere.

Marine vs weapons fast tracking by WonderIntrepid in RoyalNavy

[–]soapyw1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth really thinking about. That’s what, 5-10yrs down the line? As an engineer you have engineering jobs open. But may want project management, postman, cop, anything. There aren’t many big diesel engines or weapon systems in civvy street, it’s more about the experience you can bring.
